Punk outpopped Triple H... in the ratings!
|
CM Punk is a good investment. The dudes know him owing to his wrestling background, the babes dig him and the kids love him too.

we'll see
|
 Those ratings were piped in just like all the cheers.
|
I have to believe this had something to do with the fact that it was such a surprise and way out of the norm for the WWE. It wouldn't have mattered who won the belt, the ratings would've been just as high due to the spontaneity of it all. Nothing against Punk really cause I like the guy but I don't see how he had anything to do with it really.

Lol. These reactions are hilarious.

LOLZ PUNK ISN'T GETTING TEH BELT
|
I wouldn't say Punk alone = ratings...Overall better quality show = ratings though and thats what happened.
|
He out popped DX now he out rates? HHH asufhashyfsafd!!!
Seriously though, it was probably because of last week and it was the RAW after a PPV. |

Excuse my ignorance in the world of US TV ratings, but doesn't overrun = people tuning in the for the programme after it?

Nah, its just the show overall is better, not just cause of Punk.

What we really need though is more Shane o Mac  |
um, you have to wait a week before you can even put it on Punk. Obviously these Ratings are due to Night of Champions and the Draft before. next week will tell you what Punk did for the program.

Yeah, I've got three thoughts to bring to this subject:
1) It was a surprise. Remember when Edge popped the ratings with his title win from Cena? So many people tuned out with Cena as the WWE Champion, that when he lost the belt, it was fresh and people's interests were piqued. CM Punk becoming the World Heavyweight Champion on RAW is something different, and people's interests are once again aroused. 2) The overrun does sound like people were tuning in to the next show for me. Is there a replay of RAW? If so, that would be a better instant gage of how well Punk will do with ratings. If the replay went up, then it would imply that people missed Punk winning, heard about it, and decided to watch the replay. This would be highlighted with higher ratings segments for the start of the show, specifically. 3) The ratings next week will be a better indicator of any drawing power Punk has. If the ratings are up, then refer to point #1. If the ratings are down, well then I hate to say, but from a business perspective, CM Punk as World Heavyweight Champion might not be the way to go (yet). I'd laugh if the WWE gave JBL credit for the ratings, by the way. |
I'm not sure if Punk spiked the ratings or not. I don't watch wrestling like I used to. I used to NEVER miss a Raw. I went a whole year without watching it during that whole Cena bit. I don't even hate Cena like so many do. I'm just tired of the same old stuff.
Punk... I like Punk. There are only a few guys I would have liked see win the title and Punk is one of them. It will definitely keep me tuned in. When it comes to a certain superstar versus the overall product, I think it actually has been the superstars that have brought ratings. Why did the WWF beat WCW in the late 80's and early 90's? Because the WWF had Hulk Hogan, that's why. Why did WCW start winning the ratings war? Because some of the WWF's top guys jumped ship and things got real interesting real quick with the nWo. How did the WWF win back the viewers? You can thank "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for that. So, undoubtedly, one superstar can make a huge difference. If this was 8 years ago and TNA was around; I guarantee you that if Stone Cold jumped ship the ratings would shift drastically. |
Title changes are usually good for ratings regardless. So I dunno how much we can pat Punk on the back for. Still, I hope it's because of him. :y:
|
Same here.
|
Its only one week, too early to make judgments. However, I would say if he keeps getting big numbers, I would expect him to be jobbing a lot. Just a hunch I have.
