The Official DC Universe Thread (TPWW posters are on Countdown(PvE) and Blood Will Run(PvP) servers for PS3)
About - FUCKING - time we get some sort of sign... anything - telling us that this game is still in crunch mode. Here's some screens to jack off too. For the stupid and nonexistant; DC Universe is an MMO set within the DC Universe made exclusively for the PS3 by an in-house Sony studio. Conversely XB360 will recieve an exclusive MMO set in the Marvel Universe (616 presumely). Although details were vague its been generally assumed that you'd be creating a superhero (or villain) to interact with some of DC's most famous cities, coming in contact with its heroic and not-so-heroic celeberties. Jim Lee is handling art direction. He's awesome, don't worry.
First Shots: |
Pretty sweet.
But the Marvel MMO got canceled a while back. Sucks since theres less than a dozen characters in DC that I give a shit about. |
Aw man, too bad for Marvel and XB360.
|
There was a war about to break out whether you should be able to create your own character and interact with the MU, or just play as marvel characters. So, its probably good it was canceled before blood was spilled.
And ya know, this is a little off-topic, but I couldln't give a fuck. Why can't we get a Marvel or DC game that is exclusively based on stuff thats actually happened. Not this optional side story crap like in x-men legends. The whole game. I find myself completely detached from these games when I play them, because everything that happens is meaningless. You KNOW nothing major is going to happen. No one is going to die or anything. You are not playing a comic book game. You are playing a game based on a saturday morning cartoon, thats based on a comic. I would like to see something along the lines of a storymode like DBZ games. Where you chronologicaly play all through all the crossovers in the title's history. You may know whats going to happen, but playing thrtough all these stories you read as a kid is still way cooler than playing some half-assed story made by a game developer. |
I would much rather play stories written by comic talent, or have a game that has fresh issues as DLC to keep it going. It's an idea I had for a Batman game years ago. Release a 'starter game' that features some story arcs and a fully realized Gotham City and update the game via DLC with new story arcs and/or characters.
But you know the relationship between good ideas and the game industry... |
Could this finally be the coming of a DC game that doesn't suck horribly?
As much as I vastly prefer DC's comics over Marvel's, they have yet to have a game that isn't a total waste of time. So I'm rather looking forward to seeing if this one will change that. |

Hell yeah. Hopefully they'll fix standing standing on the wall when you've stopped. |

Looks like a giant clusterfuck. I hope it ends up better than my expectation.
|
That does look pretty fun. I'd really like to see how the flying looks compared to the super-speed.

No I mean I get that, it's just I had higher hopes for the combat system to be honest.
|
I mean, it looks like there are nice options. I had just hoped the collision would be much improved over other MMOs and it's not... at all.q
|
Yeah, the collision is funny looking. It still looks way more engaging than CoH. Anything that gets me playing an episode of Justice League Unlimited is win.
|
That and it seemed like 90% of characters shown had super speed and super strength. Like they were defaults or something. Way more excited about Marvel Ult Alliance 2 even though it's not a mmo.
|
lol You can't fault what players are gonna create, that's out of the devs hands.
Marvel UA 2 should be great, but definitely a different experience. |
Sounds good, although I would have preferred the Marvel one.
|
wtf even happened in final crisis. Like, I got 3 pages into the last issue, and was tired of it already. No fucking idea whats going on. The wholedamn thing was just a complete mess of subplots and required tie-in reading. Fucking awful.
This is exactly why I prefer marvel crossovers. They keep it fucking simple, and it's much more character driven, which is better imo. I mean, I know they are trying to be as epic as possible here, but they sacrifice any decent flow by cramming way too much shit into one story. Shoulda had Geoff Johns write this shit, cause Sinestro Corps was a perfect example of how to tell a proper epic storyline. |
Enjoyed Final Crisis more than Secret Invasion, honestly.

I dunno, I managed to follow Final Crisis pretty easily without all the tie-ins. Sure, it's annoying that they overload the main storyline with sub-plots, but it's not like Marvel doesn't do the exact same thing. Civil War was just as much of a mess at times, and it wasn't nearly as large-scale as FC (cosmically speaking, at least).
Although I'll definitely agree that Sinestro Corps was a much more enjoyable story. Keep Morrison on the trippy stuff like Doom Patrol or All-Star Superman, and let Johns do the heavy-lifting on the events. |

True. Perhaps my character doesn't need any such form of travel. Betting it's a gameplay mechanic more than presentation.

They still making this? Well miss Kryptonian Double D herself, Power Girl appears as one of your mentoring heroes in the game. Such a ridiculous gestation period, but if it comes out sharp it'll be worth it. |
(Good) games take a long time to develop, especially shit as complicated as MMOs, since bugs are more likely to cause major problems in that type of setting. Be patient.
|
Enter the DC Universe this November.
|
If I was still into games, and liked playing MMOs, I'd be all over this.
|
Might end up being my first MMORPG.

Still looking a little sloppy, but I'm more interested now than I was when it was announced.

And in case you're wondering: Luthor - James Marsters (reprising from Superman/Doomsday) Wonder Woman - Gina Torres (she was recently Diana's rival in 'Crisis) Batman - Kevin Conroy Joker - Mark Hamil (and one of his final stints as the mad clown) Superman - Adam Baldwin (also reprising from Superman/Doomsday) |
looks hottttt.
|
That was pretty amazing. Really wish I played videogames now.
|
Good reason to buy a PS3, I'd say. Does it have a fee?
|
This just might be my first MMORPG. That 5 minute trailer is EPIC.
|
November 2nd.
