I decided to be cool and get a red ring of death like everybody else.

Had my 360 almost 2 years and I was lucky enough to get the RRoD. Anyone else here sent theirs in and what the time frame I'm looking at, to wait to get it back from Microsoft ?

Extreme Angle 07-09-2008 01:24 PM

I've had twice but was all under warranty with the shop, just took it back and got new. No problems since then.
My mate had his back after a week, my other 2 months. My others been waiting for awhile but refuses to ring microsoft.

Gertner 07-09-2008 01:45 PM

got mine back 5 days after fed exing it

PapaGeorgio 07-09-2008 01:45 PM

You will never be cool, for the record of course.

PapaGeorgio 07-09-2008 01:47 PM

But on serious note I may get a 360 in the future to be cool. How long does the warranty go for from Microsoft.

Tornado 07-09-2008 07:23 PM

Sent mine off on a Thursday morning, got it back the following Thursday. That was in the UK though.

Xero 07-09-2008 07:26 PM

Took mine about 9 days including waiting for the box to come.

DS 07-09-2008 07:36 PM

I had to send mine in 2 weeks ago for the second time. Sent it on a Tuesday and got it back the next Monday. I already had a box for it though so it may be longer if you wait for them to send you a box for it.

Boomer 07-09-2008 07:57 PM

I've sent in two and gotten two new 360s back within a week or so. I wouldn't be worried.

Shaggy 07-09-2008 07:59 PM

Gotten the red ring twice. First time I sent it in I got it back like 2 - 4 weeks later.

Last Time I sent it in I never received an email or anything from then and was constantly calling them. They sent me a fixed console within a week and a half.

Time all depends I guess. If its your second time sending it in they give you a free game. Which arrives before your xbox does so then you are even more pissed.

Haha, leave it to Microsoft to agitate you while you want to bite someone in the face.

This isn't true. Might have happened to you but not to everyone.

Triple A 07-10-2008 08:49 AM

I just got the red ring last week. I finally got the box they sent me yesterday and am gonna go send it out today.

MCEazy 07-10-2008 04:30 PM

I've yet to get a RROD, but i've only had it since January so who knows.

BigDaddyCool 07-10-2008 04:35 PM

I didn't get a RRoD, I got something else. I sent my into best buy, took like fucking 2 weeks. Next time I'm going to drop it off at my nearest best buy. I had my X-Box for like 4 months when it did it.

Just John 07-10-2008 05:43 PM

I've heard a bit about this, could anyone explain to me what it is?

DrA 07-10-2008 07:11 PM

Yep, got a red ring of death as well. Love it.

The 360 has a series of 4 diagnostic lights around the power button that display red in different patterns when something goes wrong and the system can't run. The red ring of death is the most common pattern that happens when your system overheats to the point that the motherboard inside starts to warp (at least this is the most common situation). Usually results in having to send your 360 in to get repaired or replaced.

Just John 07-10-2008 07:30 PM

cheers

fucking hell what a rip off, i was planning on getting a 360 too

Considering this is with the older consoles, and the newer ones are manufactured with cooler chips and quieter fans, as well as better solder, you're far less likely to get RROD than, say, I am.

Kane Knight 07-10-2008 09:22 PM

That being said, no console is immune to hardware failure, so there will still be some RRoDs.

This was the initial thought but the Elites are starting to fail just as fast.

There was some tabloid report, not a real reliable source I know, that said that Microsoft is setting aside an estimated $1 billion to replace Elites. Hasn't been officially reported but I wouldn't be surprised if this was somewhat true.

Kane Knight 07-10-2008 10:07 PM

I wouldn't be completely shocked, but I'll wait until I actually see reports of Elites failing at the same rate.

The Genius 07-10-2008 11:51 PM

mine was 3-4 weeks total.

Triple A 07-11-2008 09:56 AM

I heard somewhere if you play DVDs a lot it will cause it to overheat faster or somthing. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I used my 360 primarily as a DVD player.

I kinda doubt that's true, to be honest. running games would be far more hardware intensive, so it should by all means generate more heat. I mean, it's POSSIBLE, but it seems unlikely.

The Genius 07-12-2008 12:56 AM

i heard what triple a did and never once used it as a dvd player. always kept mine well ventilated to avoid heat build up and still got mine approx 1 year after purchase.

Bo 07-16-2008 10:11 PM

Wow sent it off friday and they are shipping it back as 2pm today. Hope they sent me a new one since it was that fast.

Triple A 07-16-2008 10:16 PM

Yeah, damn. They just got it in yesterday and it says they shipped it out already today. Pretty darn good.

Bad Company 07-16-2008 10:36 PM

The best thing to do is to own a plug and charge kit.

Before you turn the xbox 360 off after using it, plug your controller in. That way, it'll keep the fans running in the xbox while it charges the controller, cooling the unit down at a better pace so it's less likely to crap out.

Do as I say and it'll last ages, for I know all about the xbox 360.

I have it and still had the problem.

And AAA why do I not have you as a friend on LIVE. I will add you when I get it back or via the XBOX site. And Im glad I am posting more on here again. Missed it. lol

Mayo 07-23-2008 06:32 PM

So there was a fucking storm last night and I had a power surge and all of the red lights came on. I was SUPER pissed after that cause I figured the Red Ring of Death. I have a surge protector but its not as good as the one I have my computer plugged into. So I turn it off and back on and it worked fine. Stopped playing after that in fear that it would happen again

Kris P Lettus 07-30-2008 01:31 AM

Mayo, the real red ring is all the red lights except the top right..

To everyone who has sent theirs back to Microsoft: was it under warranty when you sent it back?? If not, how much did it cost to get it fixed?? Any info would be helpful..

Kris P Lettus 07-30-2008 04:31 PM

Anyone??

Kane Knight 07-30-2008 05:09 PM

Pretty sure MS lists it on its website, but I believe a repair is 90 or 100 dollars.

Kris P Lettus 07-30-2008 06:21 PM

I went to the site but all it talked about was registration numbers and warranty.. That's why I didn't know if they even took non warrantied 360's..

Kris P Lettus 07-30-2008 06:28 PM

Oh and if I pay, do they give any kind of warranty on the repaired 360??

Kane Knight 07-30-2008 08:47 PM

They do, but I don't remember how long.

Purgatory 07-30-2008 08:53 PM

So I bought mine used from EB Games, 2006 model. If I get the old RROD, I take it mine won't be repaired free of charge?
