The Biggest Superstar Return Ever?

In your opinion, what was the biggest return in wrestling history?

Some examples...
The Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 8
The Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 12
Stone Cold Steve Austin after being hit by a car.
Stone Cold Steve Austin after walking out of the company.
Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 2000.
Ric Flair as half owner of the WWE.
Bret Hart after Wrestlemania 12.
The Undertaker during the HHH / Rock Iron Man Match.
The Undertaker at SummerSlam 1994.

I'm really up in the air... I was thinking about this today at work and I couldn't pick which one I felt was the biggest.

For reasons unknown to me, this is what came to mind...

<center><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VOBlGCFbfxY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VOBlGCFbfxY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></center>

But seriously... I'm stumped.

I'm going to have to go with Triple H's return after the quad injury, everyone was really pumped.

That may have been the biggest reaction a return ever got, when HHH came back in Madison Sq Garden.

Definitely the biggest response he ever got. I think he's been dining off it ever since. You can forgive management for pushing him to the moon after that crowd response. Shame he's only occasionally justified it since.

Rammsteinmad 07-11-2008 08:42 PM

Goldberg's return to wrestling (his WWE debut) was awesome. Dunno if that counts as he wasn't in WWE before that.

Juan 07-11-2008 08:58 PM

The ones that really stick in my mind are Undertakers return at SummerSlam '94 and Ultimate Warriors return at WrestleMania 12. Marked like a schoolgirl for those.

Honorable mention: HBK's return after coming out of retirement.

FourFifty 07-11-2008 09:00 PM

It'll be when D-Lo Brown comes back to WWE.

ARE YOU DOWN WITH THE BROWN!?!?!?!

Kenny 07-11-2008 09:27 PM

I humbly, but boldly confess that I am in fact down with the Brown.

I'd like to see him come out to his old "I think you betta recognize music." I think it was about 3 singles themes ago. He came out to it in the WWF Attitude video game for PS and N64.

KingofOldSchool 07-11-2008 09:30 PM

John Cena :shifty:

Yeah, because he wasn't an effective heel?

Verbose Minch 07-11-2008 10:09 PM

Foley returning to face Orton. It may not be the biggest, but it was one of the best...

That and I marked out like a little bitch for it.

Being an overbearing, overexposed real life asshole that people genuinely dislike isn't necessarily an effective heel.

I've said it so many times before... Triple H was a hugely effective heel. Top 10 of all time.

Jura 07-11-2008 11:18 PM

I, unfortunately, am not "down with the brown".

SammyG 07-11-2008 11:22 PM

I liked Jericho's return a lot.

Xero 07-11-2008 11:25 PM

Hogan and the nWo returning to WWE was pretty huge.

El Fangel 07-11-2008 11:29 PM

Taker at XX

I believe the biggest superstar return ever was when the 7'2, 500 pound Big Show returned at No Way Out.

DrA 07-11-2008 11:34 PM

I believe he slimmed down to 420 pounds though, didn't he?

The Genius 07-11-2008 11:49 PM

warriors WM8 run in during the hogan/sid main event.

Mister Sinister 07-11-2008 11:50 PM

Shane McMahon return before Wrestlemania X-7 was pretty huge.

When he was about to face, Vince

Andre?

The Franchise 07-12-2008 12:10 AM

Rock returning and joining Team WWF in 2001.

Corndad 07-12-2008 12:50 AM

Not sure anyone has mentioned this one yet, or if they did I missed it.

Ric Flair coming back when they were reforming the Horseman with Arn and Malenko and Mongo and um... yea that Benoit guy. The Horseman angle vs NWO didnt last very long after that but I remember watching that night it was amazing. Then he went on some rant about Bischoff that was insane. Awesome.

The Franchise 07-12-2008 12:57 AM

But seriously, the ULTIMATE RETURN at Wrestlemania 8 takes the cake.

Loose Cannon 07-12-2008 10:08 AM

Warrior's at Mania 8 was awesome

My favorite though was on Raw in 97 when Pillman jumped out of the crowd and assulted Austin, getting some payback on him

I also liked Owen Hart's when he returned and attacked Shawn at the DX PPV.

HHH's return on Raw in 98 when he saved X-pac from losing his European Title. He had been injured for a bit.

There was another good one around 2000 on Raw when Paul Bearer and Kane returned in a big 10 man tag match between DX/Radicals vs the babyfaces. Remember Paul Bearer steps out and the place loses it.

nWo's was great as well as HBK's return to join the nWo

Another shocking one in 95 was Luger's return to WCW on Nitro.

The biggest though? Come on. Hogan's return to WCW in 96 at Bash at the Beach

MCEazy 07-12-2008 10:25 AM

For me it's Shawn's return at SS2002. Considering I first started to watch wrestling the day after wrestlemania 14, and even though HBM became my favorite wrestler a few months later (after watching several matches of his) I had never seen him wrestle during the present, so when SS02 came around it was a Huge mark out moment that i'd been waiting for, ever since 98.

I also personally like Takers return at Judgment day 99, so much chaos.

Londoner 07-12-2008 10:29 AM

Jerichos return last year.

Also austins return at backlash 2000.

Kenny 07-12-2008 10:34 AM

That "Kane's Return" video is awesome, but just remembering the events surrounding the return disappoint me.

Kane was only gone for about a month if I'm not mistaking. I was actually in Pittsburgh when he was supposed to fight Triple H but his music just hit and nothing happened. It ended with the debuting Radicals attacking Triple H along with Mick Foley.

Then, Kane came back and the next Thursday on Smackdown he fought Triple H and Big Show in a handicap match. However, his PPV match was against X-Pac and he lost when Pac drop kicked steps on him as he was carrying them. That lead to a steel cage match, where Kane finally won.

I'd agree with this.

KingofOldSchool 07-12-2008 11:46 AM

FIRE ME...I'M ALREADY FIRED! FIRE ME....I'M ALREADY FIRED!

McLegend 07-12-2008 11:51 AM

Vader.

Hanso Amore 07-12-2008 12:36 PM

Kane has some of the best returns ever.

He always returns to a great pop in some unexpected way.

Kane returns to fight the corporation

Kane returns to fight DX

Kane Returns to fight the radicals

Kane returns to win battle royal.

Huge Pops.

Kane vs Unamericans is one of the biggest pops ever.

KingofKings 07-12-2008 12:50 PM

omg seeing that video of Kane reminded me how i used to mark out to him like a little fuking school girl.

One of biggest pops i have heard is the HHH return in MSG, I was jumping around my room too.

Sting got some pretty big pops when he came out unexpected, like to fight the whole of nWo, cant remeber a specific one though.

most have been said really, Warrior at WM 8, Stone Cold after car, ill get shit for saying this but you got to admit Cena did get a decent pop at the rumble, few undertaker ones.

Hanso Amore 07-12-2008 01:55 PM

the HHH return was huge.

It was a unique situation.

He was injured a LONG time. During his injury, ALOT happened. Buying WCW, the Invasion. It seemed like a lifetime he was away. Then he returned in MSG, which has the single greatest crowds ever.

What an awesome return.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-12-2008 02:36 PM

The Rock's returns were always great, especially the one after he got done filming the Scorpion King when Vince thought Austin was coming out but then it turned out to be the Rock instead.

Taz returning to ECW to beat Mike Awesome was pretty cool too, especially since nobody knew about it.

Mooияakeя™ 07-12-2008 03:19 PM

The pop for Jericho first tiem round when it flashed as JERICHO on the titantron vid was pretty loud indeed.

James Steele 07-12-2008 04:28 PM

God, Triple H is so fucking awesome.

James Steele 07-12-2008 04:32 PM

I know the pop wasn't loud, but for me personally, this had me marking out for days.

James Steele 07-12-2008 04:36 PM

This is also classic:

rob11 07-12-2008 06:16 PM

I know the crowd was small but Sandman returning to ECW after being in WCW got a huge pop.
