A Street Fighter II question

Believe it or not, I'm not up to base on my Street Fighter knowledge. I know a few of the characters, know there is a special move that Ryu does that is famous, and that Street Fighter II pretty much created the fighting genre, but I have never really played the games.

Anyway, the Nintento Wii's virtual console has made it possible to go back and revisit this franchise with convenience, but my question is this: Just which of the twenty fucking versions of the game should I get? Which is the best game, the best value, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Super.

Seriously, I'm not asking this to be a dick, but how old are you, Noid?

Cause I'm 20 and this game was like unmissable for my era. You must be 15-17.

BigDaddyCool 08-20-2008 11:26 AM

BTW, Super. I've answer the question. There is no debate on this.

Super Street Fighter 2 was the last SF game I owned until Alpha on the Playstation. It was pretty damn awesome.

To be honest, I was never a huge fan of the SNES or Genesis ones and if I were you I would look into emulating the arcade version from your PC in MAME or Final Burn. That is, if you have a joypad for your PC.

The Alpha Series are my favorite. A couple of my friends are super hardcore Street Fighter freaks, one likes 3rd Strike the best and the other likes Alpha 3 the best.

But if you are just talking SF2 then Super is the best.

I never played Alpha 3, but I loved the first two. I also loved playing the Tag Team battle in the first Alpha.

Which i already said.

Yeah, Dramatic Battle mode was awesome

On the Wii, then Super is the best. The best SF2 overall is Super Street Figter 2 Turbo: 10th Anniversary Edition

18. I didn't miss the era, per se, I just never got into it, for whatever reason. I remember when the movie came out, and it was apparently crappy, so that may have scared me off a bit, subconsciously. I was always more of a Mortal Kombat kid, myself. I also had a copy of Killer Instinct lying around.

Mr. Nerfect 08-21-2008 07:52 PM

Thank you, all. I think I'll go with Super Street Fighter II.

BigDaddyCool 08-21-2008 09:20 PM

I think Noid should be banned from life for even asking.

Kane Knight 08-21-2008 11:56 PM

Explains a lot.

Fox 08-22-2008 11:22 AM

I'LL SHOW RYU, KEN!

Let me guess, you had Clayfighter too? Of all the games in the 2d fighting genre, you skip SF2? Fuck.

K, if you have a PS2 I seggest you spring for Capcom Classics Collection. It's $20, and has 3 versions of SF 2, along with like 15 other classic games. OR get Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, as it's SF 3 and Hyper SF 2 (which is a mash up of every SF 2 version out to date) on 1 disc.

If you want a singular game, I suggest getting Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. If you have a 360, hold out for SSF2T HD Remix. It'll be the most fluid and beautiful version you can get.

Yeah, if they ever fucking release it.
