No one wants to watch normal wrestling anymore?

Mainstream, post-1980s, never really wanted to watch "normal wrestling" (assuming he means more traditional matches without an enormous amount of high spots, weapons use, minus the large amounts of Sports Entertainment, etc). So in that sense, yeah, he's right.
But to say NO ONE wants to watch it is wrong. I can enjoy a "normal match" without dives, weapons, ladders, etc as long as it's exciting. Unfortunately, the more and more we move forward the less and less guys are going to train for wrestling matches and instead train for spotfests which, as long as someone has the pain tolerance and athleticism for it, anyone can pull it off. |
I'm currently watching a "best of" Jumbo Tsuruta. Clearly "someone" still wants the "normal" wrestling. Though company is scarce.

I believe he meant no one wants to watch a match isn't gimmicked up.
|
And I'm disagreeing.
|
As am I.
|
I think he's exaggerating to affirm his place in the business.
|
I think he's just a lazy sack of crap. He doesn't want to work in the ring and wants easy pops (yes that's from the front page but I'm agreeing). I can enjoy a normal match without all the extra shit if the people involved make it exciting. I'm not saying I don't like gimmick matches, but I wouldn't go so far as to say no one wants to watch non-gimmick matches.

I want to say yes and no. If you look at the landscape of mainstream wrestling, it's pretty hard for a casual fan to become attracted to a traditional wrestling match. They learn to like the "new style" of professional wrestling, and then it changes so that nobody works or is even trained in the old school style. The Attitude Era really embraced the "spot" and the "spot" outpaced the flow of the match. But then if you look at a match like Michaels/Flair at Mania, those two brought it down. Even Taker/Edge and their series of matches have showed there is room for spots and psychology.

Fuck Brother Ray.
Probably just cos he is too fat to actually get up and research what people want. |
I think some still want "normal" matches.
It's just the company Brother Ray works for won't allow it. |
Who the hell did not want to watch Chris Beniot?
|
Well, no one does anymore.

Then again, Brudda Ray earns his paycheck performing for people who don't count, so.... |

didn't bubba ray build his career on not wrestling a "normal" style? what's his point?
|
Yeah.
|
Could this be a sarcastic remark about TNA?
Since they never have normal wrestling matches. |
I think someone is mad about the realization that the last 10 years of his career he pretty much relied entirely on tables to get over.
