RROD

hi all, I've read this forum for years yet only posted a few times..

this thread is mainly aimed towards the UK posters.

I bought a 360 Elite about 5months ago and after a lot of hardcore playing my eggbox suddenly developed a problem (error code E74), thankfully UPS picked it up today and shipped it to Frankfurt for repair. I just wanna know how/if any other UK uses have had a problem with their Elite or newer eggbox ( I heard it was new & safe from the RROD problem ), and what happened/how long it took to get the blessed thing back.
My 360 is my whole media center and I wants it back :'(
thanks for any comments/feedback

I just want to point out that no hardware is immune from critical errors like RRoD. They've greatly reduced the risk, but that doesn't ever mean you're completely safe.

I'm not British, so I can't answer most of your question.

Yeah, like KK said, the new systems are infanately better than the previous models but that doesn't mean they're "safe" or "immune" from any error, much less rrod.

It comes down to how well you look after it as well.
You guys have had a pretty hot summer eh? So that won't be doing it any favors.
It needs to be in a well ventilated place, off the carpet, and you have to let it cool down after you use it.

cheers guys, have eother of you had the RROd problem? Did Microsoft get it fixed quickly?
I guess you're never safe from the evil RROD :(

It's only been 12hrs and I miss my eggbox so..

Bad Company 08-26-2008 08:04 PM

I've had it on my first xbox, fixed it myself. Then I made some modifications that screwed the xbox, so I got my second one, did a few precautionary mods, and have my fingers crossed :)

HankScorpio 08-26-2008 08:05 PM

sry, just read/got your post..

my 360 was _very_ well ventilated just because I didn't want the overheating prob, trouble was I used my eggbox for everything, it was on for more than 12hrs per day, guess I asked for the breakage :P

HankScorpio 08-26-2008 08:06 PM

mods eh? do you have a link for what you did/where you got the plans plz?

Bad Company 08-26-2008 09:04 PM

You don't wanna be doing them, they void your warranty.

HankScorpio 08-26-2008 09:18 PM

warranty is good, I was thinking that mods might help me in the future :P

The best advice I can give you is to use the plug and charge kit after you turn off the xbox, that keeps the fans running long enough that it'll cool down properly.

This is why i got a PS3. Otherwise, Microsoft would have had another customer.

I hope that was sarcasm or something!

Mate, you're from Wales, it rains more there than it does here :p

When I got the RROD I sent the x box back to Microsoft and got it back a week later.

HankScorpio 09-09-2008 08:30 AM

well, it's back :D exactly 2 weeks. And one month free gold membership, not too shabby.

Thanks to everyone for your advice

Yeah, but they shouldn't be happening THIS often to THIS many people. Every machine has its faults and any machine can crap out on you, I agree with you 100% on that. However (comma), when you rush your product out to get a year ahead on your competition, you're going to have more problems than if you carefully do QA on your product beforehand. That was MS's main flaw this time.

I've said it many times that the RRoD is the "mark of the beast" on the 360 at this point, and it's not going away, and I stand by that. And to make matters worse, the warranties for some people that bought the 360 first will be running out soon, so if and when that next 360 RRoDs on you, you might have to pay for repairs (not good). The RRoD is one of the main reasons I'm hesitant to buy a 360 (when I do, I'm getting that 2yr service thing that alot of stores offer).

It's called hardware reliability, something that severely hurt MS in the long run.

As far as preventing it, make sure it's not on the floor (main mistake alot of people make when trying to keep it from happening to them), and that you have ample venting (nothing blocking it), because it's usually overheating of the system that causes the issues. I know these are obvious points, but it's the obvious points that no one does (everyone thinks it's rocket science).

Happened to me twice in 2 months. Just sent mine in.
