Are you going to be moderating the content of levels? This is quite likely to happen, especially when you allow use of the PlayStation Eye to take pictures.
We’ll be using a similar model to SingStar. There’ll be user moderation, so people can flag different levels if they find content abusive. The thing about the PlayStation Network, as opposed to the internet in general, is that you’re never truly anonymous. You’ve signed up to the service and have to log in to post levels, so we’ve got information on you.
We could brick someone’s PS3. I mean, that’s an extreme example, but we have the ability to do that. Mostly, though, your level will be removed and, if you repeatedly offend, you could get banned from the service.

Seriously doubt it's gonna be an issue, but people seem to have picked up on the "bricking" portion. Still, might have been dumb to open that box, whether they're using it or not.

Microsoft and Nintendo could in fact break anyone else's system with a faulty game or something like that.

You're NEVER truly anonymous on the internet because of IP Addresses. And if you agree to the EULA, then you're in fact telling them that you're alright with them collecting information to help them make sure everything is alright and no one is being abusive (especially with all these people screaming "child predator" to anyone that even TALKS to someone under 18). It's like if you agree to use Comcast's internet service, you agree to their TOSs and shit. It's nothing new, and people have been doing those things for years, it's just a new quote from someone who was yet to say anything about it yet, coming from a company that some people in the gaming media still loves to find ways to attack.

I don't disagree that it was a stupid thing to come out and just say (why give the anti-PS3 press ammunition?), but it's not like its something that shouldn't already been known that any company that has a service like that could do. I think it could be something that could be made more serious than what it really is.

Personally, I think more people were onto the notion that the game will have 50 included levels that will give it 12+ hours of gameplay, which sounds really awesome when considering the type of game it is than they were with that quote.

It's a quote I think could also be taken out of context (he went on to say that it would be an "extreme example"). Then went on to say what their course of action WILL be. Again, it's probably going to be something that was taken as more than what it was. Not sure myself how they would be able to do something that drastic.

And plus, another question:

If you were going to follow the rules and not use multiple PS3 accounts to post pornographic levels and not abuse or harass other members that would make them think such an action would be necessary, then why the hell are you complaining that they CAN do something like that?

If the feature is built into the console itself and doesn't rely on custom server-side code (aside from, say, a key), there can be potential for exploit (though very, VERY slim). As long as it's not built in, I don't see a problem.

If you've ever heard about the PSP bricking issues, it would be that things could happen with the PSP (or the PS3, if you were following the initial 2.40 problems) in which the system would fail to start. In essence, the game system would then become nothing more than a heavy thing, like a brick (where the term comes from). Not sure if you're asking about this point still, but I hope THAT much was explained further. Whenever someone mentioned that they "bricked" a system, that's what they are talking about (something they downloaded rendered the system absolutely useless).

As far as this quote is concerned, I've been looking for anyone else that had brought up the quote, and so far, only three people on the internet brought it up: KK, someone that said something about it on the page this interview came from (a good read the interview is, by the way. Wait until you see how much stuff you can put into a user-made level), and me just now asking if anyone else thought of this quote as a huge issue on the N4G.com forums. I need to know where so many people were that troubled by the quote, because whichever game forums KK is visiting, I'm obviously have not, and I haven't seen anyone like Kotaku even bring it up yet (unless the story has yet to be approved on N4G and it's not showing up on GameTab).

And again, if you're going to follow rules anyway, why would you be THAT concerned about any disiplinary action?

I can't remember for sure, but I think I saw somewhere in the account management thing where it asks you to "activate" your PS3 or something like that (where it also asks you to activate a PSP to use with the PS3). I'm not sure and I'm too lazy to check it (it could be just the controller they want you to activate).

In fact, both Sony and Microsoft have done it accidentally. Maybe Nintendo, too. I think I've heard of such a thing, but I don't remember. However comma, there's a huge and marked difference between doing it accidentally, and saying that they could do it as a punishment.

As for the rest, you're talking about ToU versus something extremely severe. Plus, of course, the inane "any reason to attack Sony" line....

That's been the accusation of some people recently. Kotaku did try to find anything they could to slam Hideo Kojima, some would say because they don't want the PS3 getting popular and MGS4 was going to be a huge game that moved consoles. Not my accuation, though I can't help but agree with it at some points (GameDaily has been more than ridiculed for their bias, and GameDaily doesn't seem to want to hide it. Read up on the controversy around Chris Buffa's MGS4 review and his thoughts on LBP, as well as calling the 360 "the best console of all time", to know what I'm talking about at least with THAT one).

But then again, I can see you possibly trying to make a model of what your cock looks like and then submitting it as a level. THAT would want ME to brick your system.

That's nice, but their EULA doesn't say anything about bricking consoles. I know you're trying to pretend that what Sony's doing is standard, but it really isn't. Even hinting that they can brick your console intentionally as a punishment is pretty much unprecedented. In fact, it may be completely unprecedented.

The fact that they have that power is scary because there can always be false positives or someone making false accusations against you to Sony. Anyone who's ever had an issue with Paypal can testify to that.

I don't doubt for a second there could be some idiots that use the flag button as a weapon (just as on N4G, some fanboys seem to like using the "report story/user" button as a weapon). However, with that being said, I don't think Sony is about to just believe the first person they see flag the thing. I'm sure they will investigate it and if it the report holds water, take action like ban you from the service (if you are a repeat offender) or just remove the level. I've never heard personally of someone having this action be taken against them. In fact, when talking to some of my gaming friends, they seem glad that Sony can do this to those select few that are persistent (like if you're just using your PS3 for that purpose, which, in that case, you really ARE stupid and deserve it).

Was it a stupid thing to admit? Yeah, of course. Will it be an issue outside of Tinfoil Brain and the person who brought it up on the comments part of that article that had the quote in it? Unless anyone else amplifies it pretending it IS an issue, then probably not. Will we ever see them have the necessity to USE that option in the PS3's lifetime? Not very likely.

Saying that they could is extreme and unecessary, because the act is, in and of itself, extreme and unnecessary. Also, I'm not worried about my PS3. The first portion of that is that I play by the rules, but the more important one is I don't plan on getting the game. In fact, I wouldn't have known about the issue except it has been brought up so often. I know you'd like to pretend otherwise, because it's convenient, but hey.

That aside, the "Only criminals have something to hide" logic really doesn't work. The principle of bricking someone's console as a punishment is just so extreme. Barring someone using their console to rape and murder a dozen school kids, I can't see anything that would merit that kind of response when a simple ban could be issued. So why even reserve the option? What could be done that's so unconscionable that it requires destroying an expensive console? Please explain.

I just searched "little big planet ps3 bricking" and found a few threads on other message boards that posted the link to the interview, but no one in these boards even brought up the quote (since it was about the 12+ hours of gameplay). It seems to me that you're doubting it's going to be an issue, but you WANT it to be an issue since you're going on and on about it. You're the one who said it and just want us to believe every word you said, so give us a reason TO believe that there's this other board that really got heated over this! Unless you're one of those people who don't believe that you have to cite your sources but we have to cite ours.
3. You're....NOT wanting to PLAY LBP? So...that only ADDS to my wonder as to why you care, then, since the game in question won't be in your interest, apparently.
