If "Smart Marks" didn't exist how different would the business be?

Well, smarks would exist, but only to the degree of the old newsletters/dirt magazines reached.

Would it be different at all?

BigDaddyCool 09-11-2008 04:05 PM

RoH wouldn't exist.

Kane Knight 09-11-2008 05:03 PM

I know this is hypothetical, but how did we cure mental retardation?

Vince would have one less scapegoat and grudge, RoH would disappear, and nobody would remember the name Doug Basham.

well no but still i'd like to see it anyway

Smart Mark is an oxymoron.

Xerzes 09-12-2008 04:02 AM

ROH would exist, they just might not be known nationally. Same for TNA. And people would so know the name of Doug Basham. I still know Kenny Kendall's name, and Doug Basham beats him by a good margin.

The Optimist 09-12-2008 04:35 AM

Smart marks? No such thing. Haw haw haw.

Nowhere Man 09-12-2008 08:13 AM

I imagine WWE would be by and large the same, since it revolves solely around amusing Vince rather than putting on good television of any kind.

The only major differences would probably be ECW dying a few years earlier than it did and not coming back, TNA shutting down a few months after opening, RoH never existing, and the lack of fan-service like Benoit's main-event push (which, in retrospect, might have allowed him to take some time off to get his head checked out and not murder his family) And a whole lot more really bland, boring, generic hosses, since all of the fun indy feds would have died out and WWE would have to rely solely on their OVW folks.

The Optimist 09-12-2008 08:56 AM

Yes, Benoit winning the title is what killed his family.

"Sorry Chris, the push got nixed. There's not enough fan reaction."

"Well, piss. Maybe there's something horribly wrong with my brain."

I'm surprised we still don't have that happening.

Yeah, but they don't know that. It's more fun to continue using "smark" in the pejorative sense.

RoH panders almost exclusively to the smark market. Why would they still be around?

Fabien Barthez 09-12-2008 12:20 PM

I'd be interested to know what sort of percentage of viewers are 'smarks'

pretty hard to assess.

Surely everybody reads the insider stories online these days, Heyman even has a non-kayfabe column in a UK tabloid newspaper, in which he comments on buisiness related wrestling stories.

The indies would be crazy different up north. That's about it.
