Can anyone recommend some bands in the same vein as Iced Earth?

Been listening to their newest disc in my car. I have a couple of their earlier CDs, too. Anyway....List some. Funky, Im looking at you....

Demons & Wizards, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden (classic, but you know), Kamelot, Symphony X, maybe Nightwish...there's loads more out there, though I can't speak to their quality. Demons & Wizards actually involves one of the guys from Iced Earth (and one of the guys from Blind Guardian).

Yeah, I own most of Maiden's records, and even a Blind Guardian Record. I'll check out the others, except for Nightwish, because I hate them.

For some reason I'm always in the mood for metalish shit when fall comes around. I need to pick up more Iced Earth, too. I've got like three albums including the new one. I'd all but forgotten them, actually.

Uh, what Thedric said.

Skippord 09-18-2008 06:08 PM

Primal Fear kind of sounds similar

maybe Dream Evil

Rammsteinmad 09-19-2008 03:34 AM

DEFINITELY Blind Guardian. Also Demons and Wizards because it basically sounds the same as Iced Earth but with Blind Guardian's singer. Running Wild, though they may be a bit cheesy.

El Fangel 09-19-2008 03:55 AM

Ministry

I know this doesn't help at all, but Travel In Stygian is a DIRTY tune.

Color Me Badd

If you can find it look for Vanishing Point. You will probably only find them on torrents

Pick up the new Pyramaze album, "Immortal". It is excellent.

If you're going fpr Blind Guardian, get Somewhere Far Beyond and Battalion of Fear. Must have albums.

Just ordered them. Already love BG, so I'm sure I'll enjoy them.

I need to find my IE albums. All the covers look similar to other covers, and I only have one record ripped to my MP3 player. I don't want to buy records I've already got.

Thanks for the BG recs. :y:

They do sound fairly different though. Battalion of Fear is very technical and not very mainstream. Somewhere Far Beyond is leans more towards the oversinging and fairytale subject matter that is associated with most power metal.

These guys don't just sing about hobbit type stuff, they literally sing about hobbits. Like straight out of LoTR.

In fairness, lyrics are generally less important in metal than the melody the vocalists are singing Plus, I tend to not listen to most of the lyrics anyway. If I did, I would never listen to metal, anyway. The lyrics are so homosexual, even Elton John would probably say "sister please!"

Vastardikai 10-12-2008 02:27 AM

Dream Theater, Chinchilla, Manowar (more along the lines of classic Power Metal)

Kane Knight 10-13-2008 10:33 AM

Listen to DT already, who are pretty good. Never heard Chinchilla; any recs for them? Manowar is kinda meh. Not bad, but I don't, you know, love them.

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-13-2008 10:58 AM

Chinchilla has a song called "War Machine" that's good. I also would suggest the "Madtropolis" album. It features a solo by "Fast Eddie" Clark of Motorhead fame.

Kane Knight 10-14-2008 05:22 PM

I can take or leave anything Motorhead related, but I'll check them oot nonetheless.
