Remember how after the first week, they had hugggggge ratings? After the second, still had really good ratings, then bam. It went down the shitter.

Downunder 09-28-2008 01:35 AM

What made it different from the NFL?

Juan 09-28-2008 01:45 AM

No fair catches for one.

It only lasted one season.

ZING

Xerzes 09-28-2008 02:23 AM

They had a camera on a wire above the field. It was a good angle and hadn't been done before. So the NFL took it.

Instead of a coin toss to see who gets the ball first, a player from each team dove after a loose football and the one who gets it, his team gets the ball first.

The quality of players for a start.

Fuck you, man.

Sure, it got off to a rough start (there was no pre-season), but after 4 weeks, the level of play was fun to watch and competitive.

Rob 09-28-2008 12:17 PM

Are you serious?

Yes.

I think if people gave it a chance, instead of dismissing it after 2 weeks, the league would still be in existence.

Not every college player goes to the NFL, obviously. The XFL was a good outlet to keep up with ex-NFL players, top draft picks that never reached their potential in the NFL, and college role players that never made it in the NFL.

So yes, I am serious.

In that case, fuck off.

My sunday league team is competitive. Doesn't mean we should be on national TV playing. There was a reason these players didn't make it to the NFL. The majority of them weren't good enough. Simple as that. This league immediately becomes sub par because of it.

People dismissed it because it was garbage. The standard of the sport was sub par. The gimmicks didn't click. Vince McMahon wanted another form of sports entertainment. People who watch American Football want sport. If they gave it a chance? They did give it a chance. When something is shit, you don't support it for the sake of it. And the league was finished because NBC finished it. They didn't wanna air it because it was a massive failure. Not even arguable.

Cooler Tom Schuler 09-28-2008 02:23 PM

I found XFL fun to watch.

lol arguing over the XFL

Hanso Amore 09-28-2008 09:45 PM

HA they put as much into getting food players and devloping them as they did the locker room cam, it could have been on par with the Arena League. Doesnt sound like much, but the AL makes good money.

D Mac 09-28-2008 10:41 PM

Didn't good ole JR announce a game?

UmbrellaCorporation 09-28-2008 10:57 PM

yeah, if I'm not mistaken, he and King BOTH did.

Could be wrong though.

McLegend 09-28-2008 11:09 PM

They both did.

AFL and CFL are now the biggest "feeder" leagues to the NFL (besides NCAA)..

Wasn't Mark Cuban gonna start a new feeder league awhile back??
