Mr. Nerfect 09-30-2008 12:52 AM

A random thought *Noid post*

I'd love to see Jimmy Wang Yang occasionally do double-duty, slap on a mask, or something, and play a heel character on RAW to have the occasional match with Paul London. I just miss those Akio/Paul London matches that used to rock Velocity back in the day. Anyone else remember those?

Mr. Nerfect 09-30-2008 12:53 AM

It's not really a Noid post, I just don't want any of those condescending folk coming into my thread.

Destor 09-30-2008 12:54 AM

Fuck yeah.

Destor 09-30-2008 12:54 AM

That's really all I got.

Mr. Nerfect 09-30-2008 12:56 AM

That's all you need, Dest. That's all anyone needs.

I'm going to try and dig up these matches now. :y:

Mr. Nerfect 09-30-2008 01:15 AM

The first encounter: Holy Shit!

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/d8DcXTBT3vg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/d8DcXTBT3vg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This was their first match together. What I really love about this match is the striking exchange in the middle of the match. Josh Mathews and Bill DeMott give it the respect it deserves by being silent. Paul London's head bump in this is sick, too. Josh Mathews sells it honestly and accurately. Anyone that calls these two spot-monkeys can pretty much be disproved by the way they manage to build the tension of this match. It really sucks you in, and the spots are used exclusively as puncuation.

The Second Encounter: Akio Time

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mWckWt9P3Fs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mWckWt9P3Fs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The belly-to-belly overhead suplex into the corner in this match is pretty sweet. London bumps like a bitch to put over the intensity of their matches. Akio looks like a real asshole for jumping on the neck London sells in both this and the previous match. Also, props to Paul London for the awesome slide across the ring. That was some Billy Gunn stuff. Also, the corkscrew moonsault press looks pretty sick. :y:

The Third Encounter: Land of the Rising Smark (Penis)

<div><object width="420" height="336"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/k5J8s0AX9EIOX5cXdB&related=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/k5J8s0AX9EIOX5cXdB&related=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="336" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1u6dz_london-vs-akio-3_sport">London vs Akio 3</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/PWF">PWF</a></i></div>

The longest of their matches. What I really love here is the build, and how Akio manages to really distinguish himself as a heel here. They also play off the respect earned in the last match, but not in a cheesy way, rather a "oh, this shit is still going" way. The bump London takes into the ring steps looks really sick, too. Not sure if the sound effects were editted in or not, but either way...fuck yeah. I think this is also the match that features the necktie submission countered into a necktie submission spot.

The Fourth Encounter: Return of Akio's Black Pants -- Now With Extra Chavo Guerrero

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jplb2Flc8I4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jplb2Flc8I4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Chavo Guerrero shows a bit of personality on commentary. The story here isn't so much their rivalry, as much as it is London's chase for the Cruiserweight Title, but it's another lesser seen match between the two. Chemistry like this between two wrestlers is pretty rare. Especially so low on the card.

Xerzes 09-30-2008 01:57 AM

Yes.

Juan 09-30-2008 02:10 AM

RAW's over now. I'm gonna pop open a beer a watch those London/Akio matches now

Mr. Nerfect 09-30-2008 05:25 AM

Not a bad idea at all, Juan. Not a bad idea at all.

If Paul London amounts to anything meaningful in the WWE, I'd love to see the WWE put out a DVD on him. He hasn't had too much chance to shine, but some of his stuff has been really fucking enjoyable.

Destor 09-30-2008 05:42 AM

Also, I love the long winded Noid fantasy posts. DOn't ever change. Granted I would go with a lot of the ideas, but I find it inspiring that someone cares enough to let these guys live in his imagination. More love for wrestlign than most of us can boast.

BigDaddyCool 09-30-2008 09:24 AM

Interesting idea, but no one would see it.

TerranRich 09-30-2008 11:19 AM

WWE needs to bring back more of that. I miss that era. :(

The Optimist 09-30-2008 12:36 PM

Awesome.

That was awesome. I'm kinda pissed at myself because I don't think I ever watched Velocity. What are some other good matches from that show?

Super V 09-30-2008 05:43 PM

Those matches make me miss Velocity.

A lot of them involved Paul London....

Paul London and Brian Kendrick vs. The Mexicools:

TerranRich 09-30-2008 08:00 PM

There should be a "Great Velocity Matches" thread. These should be the inaugural entries in the discussion. ;)

Juan 09-30-2008 08:15 PM

That would be most excellent, Rich.

Mr. Nerfect 09-30-2008 11:02 PM

Paul London was involved in many the great Velocity match. Here's one of my favourites. To me, this is about as great a match as short as this can get:
