Jurassic Park

The other night I began watching old VHS movies I had. It had been a while since I had seen it, and I didn't really realize how good of a movie it was. This movie is about fifteen years old now, yet the special effects are just as good as what would come out today. Under-rated movie in many regards, I think (although I will admit that I am not quite sure how rated it is).

Talk about Jurassic Park and to a lesser extent movies that you think are under-rated.

El Fangel 10-13-2008 06:23 AM

Always loved that movie, its too bad the sequels were horrendous.

El Fangel 10-13-2008 06:24 AM

I loved the first time I watched and was like :HOLY SHIT: when you first saw the Brontosaurus. Like seeing that, and knowing it was not real, but at the same time knowing someone MADE that thing look so real.

Disturbed316 10-13-2008 10:42 AM

The first one was amazing, second so so, third one terrible.

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-13-2008 11:00 AM

There is going to be a fourth film, isn't there?

BigDaddyCool 10-13-2008 11:05 AM

I will fight anyone that says Jurrassic Park 3 is horrible. I mean it is, but it is so horrible it is good, kinda like Snakes on a Plane. Jurassic Park 2 is so-so. It has nothing to do with the book. It just so meh.

Savio 10-13-2008 11:47 AM

I don't quite remember 2, 3 pissed me off, like come one only 3 people die?

I like the dino proof glass in the first one lol

BigDaddyCool 10-13-2008 12:10 PM

BDC and Savior now have beef.

Nowhere Man 10-13-2008 12:21 PM

What I hated the most about the third movie was how they completely blew their load on the big-dinosaur fight way too early. I mean, that should've been the main event, and they throw it out in the first twenty minutes?

I can watch it now and laugh at it for being so-bad-it's-good, but at the time I very nearly just walked out of the theater, mad at having paid to see it.

Great movie. Best part is when Newman gets killed by the little raptor

BigDaddyCool 10-13-2008 02:33 PM

Newman gets killed by a dilophosaurus. They aren't even related to the raports, any more than a tiger is related to a bear.

Kris P Lettus 10-13-2008 02:45 PM

It is a great movie..

I still remember the day I went and saw it at the theater.. Darkwing Duck did a episode that aired that saturday morning where something had gotten stuck in some sap millions of years ago and they were able to solve the case using whatever it was which was a play off the movie..

TOPICAL

Buzzkill 10-13-2008 05:05 PM

Yes I recently realized this as well, Jurassic Park is incredible.

Buzzkill 10-13-2008 05:06 PM

And bros, Lost World was amazing

Volchok 10-14-2008 12:26 AM

I loved Lost World a lot more when I was young, because I liked Jeff Goldblum's character most.

I am an unrepentant Jeff Goldblum fan.

Kris P Lettus 10-14-2008 02:17 AM

The Great White Hype is Goldblum at his best..

Yeah seriously, what is wrong with the rest of you?

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 08:43 AM

I liked them all. Definately the 1st alot more though.

Jeritron 10-14-2008 10:23 AM

I feel it has become extremely underrated over the past 5-10 years.

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 10:50 AM

Well if they are making a forth, I'm sure it'll be followed up with a four film box set and the original will get some appreciation. Hopefully.

Well, Brontosaurus is not really a dinosaur so the only thing you should have gone :HOLY SHIT: at was the writers clearly missing a significant discovery of dinosaur fossils. Or it was a brachiosaurus and you are just stupid.

Jeritron 10-17-2008 08:21 PM

Never understood why they didn't do more, or anything at all, with the Dilophosaurus "Spitter" in the sequels. They were the most under-exploited dino in the whole series, and one of the best.

YOUR Hero 10-17-2008 10:48 PM

JP really upped the bar in terms of special effects

Zen v.W.o. 10-19-2008 10:49 PM

Love them movie, and have them all.

I still didnt like T-Rex losing to that fucking skinny looking spino.

T-Rex is the king.

Lost World was decent, didnt like the black girl basically making a Raptor, such a vicious killer with intelligence to boot, look like a bitch. I mean, gymnastics moves? Black girl shouldnt have even been in the film.

Kapoutman 10-20-2008 12:50 AM

I know it gave me nightmares about velociraptors for a while. :o

I don't really remember the second one however. I remember when they start thrashing San Diego but that's it. I've never seen the third one.

Jeritron 10-21-2008 01:29 PM

Just watched this again last night. Great as always, but I must say...

It could have the best use of CG still.
After 15 years it still looks fantastic. It's as good as the best there has been since then. I think the tool has peaked and it's more about the care and work that goes into it than the technology advancing.
Seeing a movie made in 1993, that was also the first to use CGI in a capacity other than water or liquid metal, still look real by todays standards is pretty impressive.

BigDaddyCool 10-21-2008 02:44 PM

Actaully I read they didn't use CGI, they used real dinosaurs.

94 SVT Cobra 10-23-2008 03:53 AM

yeah, i bought some 3 disk set of the JPs a while ago....first one is SO damn good, i remember ALL that hype it got and how it actually lived up to every last bit of it. they used to show the "making of" it so much, probally because it took you so long to understand "ok, so the dinosaurs arent models, but there computer models? AND theres animatronics as well?" back in the day it was either claymation models or animatronics, took me a while to figure out myself.
