Slumdog Millionaire

I just banked 2 free tickets to see this movie on November 12th because of an online promotion where you can RSVP to a screening in your area.

Here is the link to get your free tickets:

It's a new movie from Danny Boyle that is getting rave reviews.

Plot Synopsis:

The story of how impoverished Indian teen Jamal Malik became a contestant on the Hindi version of "Who Wants to be A Millionaire?" -- an endeavor made without prize money in mind, rather, an effort to prove his love for his friend Latika, who is an ardent fan of the show.

I want to see.

Confused 11-01-2008 05:11 PM

I'd give anything Danny Boyle makes a chance.

Looks good.

Seriously, if I wasn't such a huge fan of Chris Nolan's TDK, this would easily be the number one movie of the year for me, hands down. Beautiful cinematography, amazing acting, a well-told, cohesive and powerful story; this movie has a lot to give to viewers.

Go see it!

GD 12-31-2008 02:50 PM

I am going for it. It is yet to release in January in India.

El Fangel 12-31-2008 03:14 PM

Wow, Downloading it right now.

Requiem 12-31-2008 09:16 PM

Yeah, amazing movie. Very well done, and a moving story.

G 12-31-2008 09:37 PM

Wow. First of all, I am downloading the screener now. Second, I had no idea it looked this dumb. Honestly, a movie about some Indian boy on Millionaire? I thought this was the movie of Jeff Goldblum acting like a dog.

Requiem 12-31-2008 09:39 PM

It is not dumb at all. It isn't what you're expecting it to be I'm pretty sure.

G 12-31-2008 09:44 PM

I'll give it a shot. Couldn't be worse than Van Damme acting in a fucking drama.

PapaGeorgio 01-01-2009 07:02 PM

In the middle of it now, it is really amazing. Falling in love with it really quickly.

jindrak 01-02-2009 03:43 PM

It thought it was a good movie immediately after seeing it...

But the more I thought about the movie, the better it became.

Go see it!

GD 01-03-2009 11:34 AM

Living in India I have never seen such a world! I have never cried in a movie... I am touched. A R Rahman has done a good job with the music. I am depressed as hell :(

Triple A 01-03-2009 01:03 PM

It was pretty good but I didn't like it nearly as much as everyone else seems to love it. Don't wanna be a "stick in the mud" but a lot of it was mad cliché and ridiculous. But it was good yeah I dunno. The concept was great.

RoXer 01-03-2009 01:07 PM

Cheesy ending yeah

G 01-03-2009 10:55 PM

LOL the dancing during the credits is completely out of left field.

Good movie.

Will people get upset if I do not rate it?

I'm furious. :mad::mad::mad::foc:

RoXer 01-03-2009 11:02 PM

I did not understand the dancing at all. Is that some sort of tradition in Indian films?

G 01-03-2009 11:05 PM

Yes. Benny Lava.

Fox 01-05-2009 01:47 PM

The fact that I only remembered the dancing sequence just now is proof that my mind has been pretending that it doesn't exist.

Ahh, subconscious. Your power is astounding. That shit was unnecessary.

The Icon of Elisim 01-05-2009 03:30 PM

I thought the story worked perfectly but the movie looked like shit. I hated the direction, just constant cuts that lasted like 3 seconds each.

I thought it was amazing. First of all, how it "looked" and how it was cut are two different things, and if you say that the work of the DP and color corrector "looked like shit" then honestly we either didn't watch the same movie, or you watched a shitty bootleg on truveo.

The quick cuts helped to move along what is already a very sweeping story. It was my comprehension that the flashbacks were cut quickly to help illuminate the way that memory works. It's not a flowing, constant stream; recalling memory comes in bits and pieces, quick and sharp - especially the memory of the main character.

They also seemed to slow the cut rate during the more emotional moments of the film, like the love sequences, the final reunion of the brothers in the construction site, the interrogation scenes and his time in the hot seat.

Still, to each their own.

Buzzkill 01-06-2009 02:36 AM

It looks like it is filmed in the type of film people use to win best oscar nominations

Buzzkill 01-06-2009 02:36 AM

like that muted grainy tone or whatever. looks mad cliche i dunno

DrA 01-06-2009 02:52 AM

I saw it and thought it was good. But I have shitty vision and wasn't able to read all of the subtitles.

Slumdog Millionaire

My apologies if there is a topic already, but I just saw this movie and it was awesome.

From IMDB:
"A Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers."

Good fucking movie. Very action packed and kept me glued the whole time.

I definitely recommend it.

Anyone see it?
