I vote Ken Masters; mostly because he's badass and partly because Ryu's gay. His Shoryuken sets his fucking fist on fire, and its range is greater. His Hurricane Kick combos and his standard kicks are better than Ryu's. His Shinryuken is most likely better than Ryu's Shinku-Shoryuken - which I always thought was Ryu's attempt at being a smart-ass anyway. And Ken has better theme music.

I voted for Ken, easily. Just because I find him better to play as, really.

It's one of those things in games where everyone pronounces it differently.
I say Ry-yoo but others say Ree-yoo or Reey-oo.

Other pronounciation problems are words like Deku (Deh-ku or Dee-koo?) and Zangief. I've heard Zangief pronounced as booth Zan-geef and Zan-gee-eff in Street Fighter products.

The whole thing may be down to your dialect/accent because a lot of Americans seem to pronounce Mario and Wario as Mawr-ee-o and Wawr-ee-o and not Mah-rio and Whah-rio as Europeans and Japanese pronounce it.

edit: On a related note, what's with the Hadouken? That constantly switches it spelling. Sometimes it's spelt Hadouken and other times the U is left out and it's written Hadoken.

It's Japanese. Pretty much everything Japanese is just plain wrong.

They both suck and Chun Li should be the face of Street Fighter.

Interference from Akuma, and he slays the fuck out of both of them because HE IS the supreme champion.

Gonna go anti-everyone else here and say Ryu, for the following reasons:

• Ryu gave Sagat his gargantuan fucking chest scar
• He is a badass, mysterious "wandering warrior", not a fucking attention-seeking glory hog like Masters
• Ken was fighting T-Hawk in an abandoned warehouse when Bison tracked him down; how desperate was he for battles?
• Ken gets ambushed like a bitch and brainwashed by Bison without even really putting up any kind of a fight
• Ryu's power is so immense that Dhalsim could sense it just by being in his general vicinity
• Ryu holds off Bison way longer than Ken could, who basically gets knocked out of the way and loses function of his legs until he remembers how to work them again, rejoining the battle just in time to fire off one hadouken with Ryu and claim the joint victory, after essentially being out of the entire fight.

Ryu's a bum, Ken actually supports his travels.

T-Hawk picked a fight, and rightfully got his ass handed to him.

Bison went after Ken in the first place because he recognized his power.

Dhalsim may have sensed Ken's power as well, but we'd never know as they never came across each other.

Also, check out the Street Fighter American series (USA kids block) which had an episode where Ken defeats Akuma after Ryu fails epically. Despite it being a bastardized American hybrid of the game and movie - that episode is one of the best SF stories ever told. And it perfectly illustrates Ryu's issues and why Ken gets the job done.

And again, a fire uppercut.

Bison was chasing Ryu before he stumbled across Ken. Ken was his consolation prize because he was so easy to find and capture.

And also, as for the whole fire uppercut thing, a buttload of good it did him, eh?

Oh, plus, Ken can't let go of stuff. While Ryu was happily traversing Asia in search of new battles, Ken was obsessing about having a rematch with Ryu.

You can't compare injured Ryu with full-strength Ken, he was at a clear disadvantage.

Besides, Ryu has beaten Ken in the past.

This one also contains the T-Hawk/Ken battle, which is awesome in its brevity. Don't get me wrong, I do like Ken, I just thought Ryu had been unfairly represented so far :(
