Star Trek XI

Not sure if there has been a thread on this yet. The new Star Trek trailer's attached with Quantum of Solace. Has anyone gotten a look at it yet? I'm dying to see it but I'm really not pumped for the new bond and don't feel like spending $10 to see it.

Kalyx triaD 11-14-2008 04:54 PM

Wouldn't call it 'XI'.

Downunder 11-14-2008 08:39 PM

Eric Bana

ct2k 11-14-2008 09:59 PM

Dunno, the idea of any of the original ST crew being played by other actors still frightens me immensely tbh, but I will absolutely go and watch it regardless of what reviews it gets.

Blue Demon 11-14-2008 10:35 PM

I'm excited for it, but it got pushed back from Christmas to May because they felt more people would want to watch it in the summer. :-\

mitchables 11-14-2008 11:47 PM

Sylar looks like an amazing Spock.

mitchables 11-14-2008 11:50 PM

Also, as a fan of all things Trek, I am really psyched about this. I am looking forward to seeing how classic Trek scrubs up with modern CGI and sets and story-telling and all that craziness. Got big hopes for it.

Probably gonna be hugely disappointed though.

Kane Knight 11-15-2008 12:00 AM

Yeah, there was a thread on this. Also, is Kirk dressed up like a scene Kiddie in that still of the bridge crew, or what?

Tb1 11-15-2008 12:24 AM

Apparently it's an alternate command shirt. He still wears the Yellow so I've heard.

Jeritron 11-15-2008 12:30 AM

Just looks like normal black clothing to me.

I saw the trailer.

I've never been big on Trek, but this looks really interesting. The approach to the story seems really interesting, and fresh.
The style, which I hear will be more modern and adventurous/action packed and likely more epic in scale, is a great move.
The cast and everything looks great.

The only thing that looks lame from the trailer, and I could be wrong, but visually it seems to look too bright and crispy. Like the mix between a Michael Bay movie and a show from the sci fi channel. Like too polished and fake looking almost.
Just doesn't seem appropriate for the material and even from a short trailer looks a bit jarring.

Also, I thought John Cho or whatever his name is from Harold and Kumar was a good choice, but when I saw him in action I just couldn't take it seriously.

Seems really interesting though, and thats coming from someone who doesn't have much interest in the franchise. Def gonna see it. Has the potential to be really good.

Jeritron 11-15-2008 12:32 AM

I suppose it's obvious that I saw the trailer last night btw, although I didn't preface my statement with it.

Tb1 11-15-2008 12:36 AM

Holy shit.

Jeritron 11-15-2008 12:40 AM

Okay, that was better the second time.

mitchables 11-15-2008 12:42 AM

ahfsagfsha that looks awesome :'(

Jeritron 11-15-2008 12:46 AM

One thing that threw me off when it first started is I was like 'what the fuck is this', it looked like a new fast and the furious movie until he said "James T Kirk"
Probably why it seemed a bit off to me the first time.

It def looks good. Star Trek, to me, always had a good premise but I just couldn't get into it as a youth due to the lack of excitement and action, and the lack of operatic storytelling. I was a Star Wars lad.
Fortunately, JJ Abrams was too and said he has aimed to take Star Trek as a premise and make the new films like Star Wars films.
I think that's great and it looks to be the right move.

Tb1 11-15-2008 12:51 AM

I think it looks great. I've been a Trek fan my entire life. However, there is one thing that scares me. It has to have an underlying moral issue, a good Right vs. Wrong plot or it's just sci-fi. Trek ALWAYS has to have that. It's what makes it different.

Jeritron 11-15-2008 12:53 AM

I'm sure it will

mitchables 11-15-2008 01:58 AM

The later Trek series had far more action than the earlier stuff. The Dominion War during DS9 is one of my favourite sci-fi story arcs EVAR.

But this looks great

Jeritron 11-15-2008 02:06 AM

The only Trek movies I liked, that I've seen, are Wrath of Khan and First Contact (I think it was)

I watched the one with the whales when I was high once and it was pretty rofl

ct2k 11-15-2008 06:47 AM

Ok looks pretty good

Jeritron 11-15-2008 07:32 AM

I'm really more excited about this than any of the major releases next summer.
Even as a non-fan.

Transformers 2 will hopefully be fun, but lightning probably won't strike twice.
Wolverine looks like shit
Another Terminator movie, without Arnold, directed by McG? Not really pumped for that.

This is probably the most interesting looking, and competently helmed adventure of the season.
I'm really looking forward to Apatow's next movie Funny People and Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, which come out next summer, but those are hardly action-adventure blockbusters. So by default this takes the cake.

ct2k 11-15-2008 08:31 AM

Completely forgot about Inglorious Bastards

And the eyeshadow?

ct2k 11-15-2008 08:59 AM

They've turned Kirk into an emofagsceneboytranny:(

D Mac 11-15-2008 01:53 PM

lol it has a sex scene

Destor 11-15-2008 02:17 PM

Super unimpressed by that trailer. Looks like total ass.

Destor 11-15-2008 02:17 PM

spock looks great though.

Kane Knight 11-15-2008 05:52 PM

Anyone got that picture of the bridge crew? It's not showing up for me here on TPWW or on photobucket. My Dad's a huge Star Trek fan and I wanted to send him the shot, but the only one that's showing up for me is Quinto as Spock.

Jeritron 11-15-2008 06:01 PM

So is this a reboot, or a prequel?
Or does it double as both?

YOUR Hero 11-15-2008 08:11 PM

This is my kind of movie. I grew up with Star Trek.

Kirk's always been a ladies man. Not that surprised.

Both. Not a total reboot, but it seems like they're changing a few things.

Downunder 11-16-2008 03:17 AM

I think this is a movie that will divide people down the middle, love it or hate it, no middle ground.

I for one as a Star Trek fan am looking foward to seeing it.

Nowhere Man 11-16-2008 05:39 AM

The hardcore nerd in me is still screaming over the fact that they've apparently gotten rid of Captain Pike (who was captain of the Enterprise before Kirk), but looking at it just as a non-canon big exciting space adventure, I'm looking forward to it.

IMDB has someone cast as Christopher Pike.

Tb1 11-16-2008 03:14 PM

Christopher Pike's doing the voice over during the opening part of the trailer with Kirk.

Jon Kano 11-16-2008 06:20 PM

Never really been a big time fan.

Used to watch TNG when we first got sky.

But this....this interest me.
