Recommend ONE movie to us.

Go ahead. Give us one movie that you really love and you think we should check out, and tell us why. Obviously, it helps if the movie is not something like Spider-man or some shit that everyone probably has already seen.

Eraserhead

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074486/

This is the scariest movie I have ever seen. It's David Lynch's first feature length movie and it is just the weirdest, most ****ed up shit ever.

PLOT: A guy impregnates his young girlfriend, and what is born is some sort of mutant/alien looking baby, which he must take care of until it basically drives him mad.

This is the baby:
http://www.geocities.com/~mikehartmann/baby.jpghttp://monsterhunter.coldfusionvideo...raserhead3.jpg

It's really hard to find. I had to download it from Kazaa. Download it if you have to because it is the creepiest shit ever.

Oh, by the way, this is Stanley Kubrick's favorite film of all time and he'd make his actors watch it in The Shining to "get into the mood".

Death Race 2000

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...1.LZZZZZZZ.gif

Just a classic cult movie, my dad told me it was really good, and he was right, its basically a comedy which kind of has a political message too it, although the message might be a little outdated, as I think its more about how society was doomed in the 70s if things didn't change.

The plot is fairly simple, it centres around the national sport, which is a trans-continental road race, where you pick up points by killing people, getting varied points for different people you kill, leading to some comic moments such as "Euthanasia" day at the hospital on the path of the racers.

Its the kind of film you really have to see to decide whether you like it or not, words don't do it justice

I love it purely because its a dark comedy which is fairly satirical at the same time, and is well worth checking out

My favorite movie that most people may not have seen is probably the Truman Show

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/63...1.MZZZZZZZ.jpg

Summary from IMDB:

He's the star of the show--but he doesn't know. Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank in this movie from director Peter Weir about a man whose life is a nonstop TV show. Truman doesn't realize that his quaint hometown is a giant studio set run by a visionary producer/director/creator (Ed Harris), that folks living and working there are Hollywood actors, that even his incessantly bubbly wife is a contract player. Gradually, Truman gets wise. And what he does about his discovery will have you laughing, crying and cheering.

Once Upon a Time in America

http://imdb.com/title/tt0087843/

Its a story about these Jewish gangsters in New York who grow up together and then have this reunion later. They were doing all this shit during Prohibition but then Noodles (Bobby De Niro) goes into hiding for a bit and comes back in the 60s. James Woods is the man in this too

Its about 4 hours long but oh my God it is sweet. They tried to edit the original US release but they butchered it horribly. I saw the actual version that was released elsewhere and holy shit I had a 4 hour boner. Sergio Leone directed it btw

Triple A 03-23-2004 04:44 PM

I tried to watch Once Upon a Time at work, but couldn't get into it. :$

It was the cut version though so I dunno.

I'd have to say Requiem for a Dream.

That was one of the only movies that I was literally scared. Gave me chills from beginning to end. It's one ****ed up movie.

Once Upon A Time In China

It's about how Wong Fei Hung (Chinese Folk Hero) resisted the influence of Western Culture as China was beginning to revolutionize in the 1800s.

It's not the best as far as script (it's a dubbed over martial arts movie, really), but the action is crazy-go-nuts. See the sequels (2 and 3) if you can find them too.

If you remember that Iron Monkey movie that came out a few years back, it's like a prequel to this.

Amores Perros

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245712/

This movie is ****ing amazing. It is just like a Quentin Tarantino film and just as good, or even better in some aspects, only in Spanish. It's from the same guys that just put out 21 Grams. It's ****ing great. Every Tarantino fan needs to watch it. The opening scene is like a straight up tribute to Reservoir Dogs.

PLOT: A horrific car accident connects three stories, each involving characters dealing with loss, regret, and life's harsh realities, all in the name of love.

It's the #149 greatest film of all time on IMDB. Watch it, trust me.

A Knight's Tale

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183790/

This is the most fun movie I've ever seen, and it doesn't get nearly the love it deserves.

PLOT: Young William Thatcher, a squire to Sir Ector, steps into his mentor's armor after his...unfortunate death. Since it was law in the medieval age that only nobles could compete, William had to hide his identity from those in power. After a victory, William decides to strike out as a knight full-time, gaining "glory and riches." Along the way, he (and his mates Wat and Roland) meets a young writer named Chaucer, who acts as his herald. After befriending a young blacksmith named Kate (Laura Fraser  ), the "team" is complete. Of course, there's the requisite love interest and the rival (both romantically and competitively).

Seriously, this movie is so much fun. People were turned off by the infusion of modern music into the soundtrack, but it really does add to the overall air of goofiness with which director/writer Brian Helgeland has painted the entire film. This is one of my favorite movies of all-time, and most people I talk to don't even know it exists.

Funky Fly 03-23-2004 05:04 PM

Did you shrink down the pic?

I know it was big, but the left half was a pretty good explanation of the plot.

The Icon of Elisim 03-23-2004 05:19 PM

3 Amigos

Plot Outline: Three unemployed actors accept an invitation to a Mexican village to replay their bandit fighter roles, unaware that it is real thing. (more) (view trailer)

Martin Short, Chevy Chase and Steve Martin. This movie was the goods when I was a kid and I'm pretty sure it still is. Its basically a gag reel type film.

mitch_h 03-23-2004 05:36 PM

It's a short film but it's still pretty awesome.

Vincent (1982)

Plot Outline: Young Vincent Malloy dreams of being just like Vincent Price and loses himself in macabre daydreams which annoys his mother.

This is a short film by Tim Burton and it's a lot like the Nightmare before Christmas, infact you can see it on the DVD. It's a pretty cool little film.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Even if you're not a fan of Jim I urge you to see this, it's far from his usual line of work. I don't like him that much, but loved this movie.

Taken from IMDB: Joel (Jim Carrey) is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contracts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwaik (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover their earlier passion. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. As Dr. Mierzwiak and his crew (Kristen Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) chase him through the maze of his memories, it's clear that Joel just can't get her out of his head.

Iron Monkey: basically about a doctor acting like Robin Hood trying to kill some dude.

Decent action movie, not like shitty ass American action films. The only setback is the subtitles.

The Believer

Starring: Ryan Gosling (lol, the little runtcock from Young Hercules and Breaker High)

It's pretty messed up, Gosling plays a Jewish Neo Nazi, and just struggles on whether he hates or loves his religeon and what it stands for. He is extreme in both ways of thought, when he shows affection for his religeon, he demands all those around respect it and he's pretty orthodox. However when he hates it...well he's a fuc</>king Jewish Neo Nazi. His character's cool, he plays an intellectual but a badass (even though as much as he tried, he just wasn't THAT convincing as a badass, considering he weights about the same as my pinky finger).

One Hour Photo (2002)

Seymour 'SY' Parrish has been doing photo development for 20 years. He has a vast knowledge of modern photography and develops photos at a local department store for a living. But SY lives a sad and lonely life and begins spying on the Yorkin family, his biggest customers who seem to have everything in the world. SY begins to feel that he wants to be in the Yorkin's life, but when he discovers that the Yorkins are not as perfect as they seem, he becomes a man on a mission to expose the imperfections of the Yorkin family that could tear them apart.

One of my all-time favorites. Robin Williams is amazing in the lead role.

BTW Trips, I dl'ed Eraserhead a while back after hearing you talk about it and post pics. It was alright I guess but also kinda diapointing. I thought it was kinda creepy to watch alone but as a movie it wasn't that great.

I know. It does not have a plot. It's not a movie you watch to be entertained by the story. It is amazing for what it is though. Not for everyone though, obviously, especially not the casual movie goer.

Vega 03-24-2004 03:14 AM

Just watched Donnie Darko...Mad fu</>cked up, which I usually don't like, but this was definitely an exception because the movie was pretty damn good.

I looked on IMDB for a good review but every one made it look either really stupid or gave away too much of the movie.

It's basically about some kid in the 80's who is seeing visions which cause him to do some fu</>cked up stuff, but each thing he does turns out to have a meaning later. Overall, it's a really good movie.

Shaggy 03-24-2004 09:45 AM

My favorite movie of all time----Die Hard

Sets the bar for all action movies.

What Would Kevin Do? 03-24-2004 02:47 PM

It's not exactly my favorite movie, but if I have to pick a movie everyone should see, it'd be "Donnie Darko"

Probably one of the more original movies I've seen in a long time. Pretty well thought out movie, and an ending that literally makes the movie. Also, " Mad World" is a great song. Not to mention it has a great explanation about the smurfs.

$ideburns 03-24-2004 04:14 PM

Resurrection. It stars Christopher Lambert as John Prudhomme, and Leland Orser as Detective Andrew Hollingworth. Basically, it's a lot like Se7en. Here's the plot from IMDb: Detective John Prudhomme, a Cajun transplanted to Chicago, is assigned to investigate the savage murder of a man who has bled to death from a severed arm. A message, "He Is Coming", written in blood on the victim's window, is a dark, forboding clue of his task. After two more victims with missing body parts are discovered, Prudhomme realizes he is on the trail of a serial killer who is using the missing body parts to reconstruct the body of Christ...just in time for Easter. As Prudhomme struggles to catch the zealot-murderer, he is haunted by the death of his son, his continued estrangement from his wife, and his wavering faith in God.

jasonvoorhees 03-24-2004 05:48 PM

I recommend Scarface, Gone Fishin, Odd Couple, Odd Couple 2, Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Man, Survivors, Heat.

I saw this one.

It's pretty fu</>cked up, but pretty good. And I'm not even a Christopher Lambert fan.

Antonio Salieri believes that Mozart's music is divine. He wishes he was himself as good a musician as Mozart so that he can praise the Lord through composing. But he can't understand why God favored Mozart, such a vulgar creature, to be his instrument. Salieri's envy has made him an enemy of God whose greatness was evident in Mozart. He is set to take revenge.

BEST MOVIE EVER
