The only albums that have come out this year that I have bought are:

Metallica - Death magnetic
The Dresden dolls - No virginnia
Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue
Maple Bee - Home
Punch brothers -Punch

With the exception of the Dresden Dolls cover of "pretty in pink," only Jenny Lewis really did anything for me. The majority of modern acts do nothing for me. Next year is looking better though for new music.

Saying that though, there are number of albums that have come out this year that I do want, but are in my great list of albums to buy:

Amanda palmer - who killed amanda palmer?
Chris thile & Edgar Meyer
The duhks - fast-paced world
The Winterpills - Central chambers
Dan Tyminski's new album

I heard their "Black Sheep Boy" album for the first time this week, and it is pretty bad ass. It gives me mad dark thoughts though. Don't know why. But I definitly want more of their albums.

I can see you not going for Modwheelmood. But not NIN? The Slip was a great album, especially for being released free, which just made it even more awesome.

You have the only list where I have heard of every band, and most lists I have heard of no bands. I am a fuddy duddy.

Actually I am assuming that means the bands suck.

Requiem 12-15-2008 11:06 PM

Honestly, I hate all of the bands in Downunder's list. Like truly would not ever listen to in my lifetime if I could help it.

ron the dial 12-16-2008 12:17 AM

i have to add bon iver - for emma, forever ago to my list. i cannot stop listening to "skinny love."

Yup, if I haven't heard of a band they automatically suck, until proved otherwise.

I think I've only bought two albums that were released in 2008:

Dillinger Four - Civil War
Offspring - Rise and Fall Rage and Grace

I bought Death Magnetic for my soon to be wife for Christmas, but it hasn't been opened yet so I can't say if it's good or not.

Mine maybe the closest to Downunders list. But my list goes as follows:
Disturbed - Indestructible
Shinedown - The Sound of Madness
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Rev Theory - Light It Up

Nah, only a couple of songs. "Violence" which was released almost a year ago, and "Nothing For Me Here" which I dunno if it will be on the album or now. Latest update now is March.
