Atari drops Ghostbusters multiplayer deets, neglects vital information

There are a few things to be gleaned from the Ghostbusters multiplayer details recently posted on Kombo.com. First of all, the game features co-operative multiplayer in which players catch ghosts as a team. Of particular interest is the multiplayer campaign mode, which allows you to earn cash and upgrade your equipment. There's also an Instant Action mode for less patient players. Beyond that, there are plenty of other details: six power-ups, twelve maps, six different game types, etc.

The problem, see, is that Atari forgot one important piece of information concerning any Ghostbusters multiplayer experience: What happens when you cross the streams? It's a vital detail and, frankly, we're shocked it's not even mentioned. We can tell you this right now: If nothing happens when you cross the streams, the trivial geek rage will be heard the world over.

Varying degrees of damage should occur when crossing the streams including a low chance of a game/round over.

Of course there should also be the mega stream with those same chances.

Alyssa Milano replaces Weaver in Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Everyone's dream girlfriend from the '80s and '90s, Alyssa Milano, will replace Sigourney Weaver as the leading lady in the upcoming Ghostbusters game from Atari. Weaver originally declined to reprise her role as musician -- and Bill Murray baby-mama -- Dana Barrett unless the game was of "high quality," until she had a change of heart. Unfortunately for the actress, and Ghostbusters fans, the change came too late in development as her character had been written out to make room for a new leading lady, voiced by Milano.

Milano, still stunning at 36-years-old, will play Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn -- curator of the World of Gozer exhibit at the Natural History Museum in New York City. Also missing from the regular Ghostbusters cast is Canadian actor (and spokesperson) Rick Moranis, who has since left show business in the wake of collecting giant stacks of Honey! I Shrunk the Kids money. Ghostbusters go on the hunt on June 16.

I'm indifferent. No doubt am I disappointed that Barrett isn't in (knew this already) but won't pass judgment until I see how Ilyssa fits in.

Ilyssa, according to a source who has worked on this game, is not Peter's love interest, but the player character's.

So you get to be a Ghostbuster AND bang Alyssa Milano.

Yeah they know how to market this to their target audience all right.

Wow shit. That game must be offering something good. Looks sweet, great franchise and written by the original writers. Awesome

Thinking about it, this will likely be the game the defines "mainstream" video games as an alternative to movies. Hopefully it'll bring about similar games.

<!-- google_ad_section_start --> Yesterday, Ghostbusters was being published by Atari, and was due to be released across PS3, 360, PS2, Wii and DS. Today, in a strange move, that's no longer the case.
Sony have swooped in late and signed a new publishing deal, whereby the PS3 and PS2 versions of the game will be released in PAL territories (ie Europe and Australasia) not by Atari, but by Sony Computer Entertainment. Those versions will be released on June 19, the same day that the film's due out on Blu-Ray.
But what about the other versions? They'll be coming, but later in the year, as Sony's takeover means the game will be a timed exclusive to the PlayStation home consoles.
As for what this means for customers outside PAL territories...hopefully Sony and/or Atari will have something to say about that later today.
UPDATE - With the release of an official press release announcing the deal, this post has been updated to reflect the PAL-only nature of the announcement.

I think it may have to do with the financial troubles Atari has been experiancing over the last couple of years.

They seem to be more bothered about the hardware rather than the games, otherwise Sony wouldn't have made the console region-free.
