Reading Festival Bottling

Just looking at youtube I am seeing an awful amount of bottling videos to bands like Panic At The Disco, My Chemical Romance etc.

What the hell is up with people at Reading?

The Destroyer 12-29-2008 02:18 PM

Tends to happen to bands that people don't like. Crowds at Reading and Leeds are notoriously fickle with certain bands.

Penner 12-29-2008 02:20 PM

Yeah but what losers. Like don't watch them if you don't want to see them.

So ridiculous.

The Destroyer 12-29-2008 02:29 PM

Hey, you've got to do something with bottles full of piss.

ct2k 12-29-2008 02:46 PM

Penner this is rock and roll not the fucking opera, thats what fans at festivals like Reading and Leeds do, the fact that those two bands are fucking awful only adds to this, its their own fault for being so shit, I'dve thrown a couple dozen of the bottle myself if I'd been there.

Blitz 12-29-2008 03:00 PM

If you don't like the music someone is making, try to kill them :y:

You're an idiot.

Just because people don't like their music it doesn't mean they deserve to be injured by pricks like yourself.

People who do this at these events are sad losers. That doesn't happen here at events like Warped Tour. People have common sense and decency.

ct2k 12-29-2008 03:25 PM

Christ I wasn't being entirely serious, do you think I could piss long enough to fill 24 beer bottles?

Anyway, I didn't say they deserve it I said thats what happens at festivals like that, and I wouldn't actually do it because I wouldn't actually go to Reading or Leeds.

Penner 12-29-2008 03:42 PM

It's so dumb. That it's like a staple of Reading and Leeds that it happens there.

There are soo many videos its ridiculous.

ct2k 12-29-2008 04:26 PM

Thing is its not like the warped tour where its literally a tour, Leeds and Reading happen one weekend every year, a SHITLOAD of people go, and because its only once a year they go fucking nuts on booze and drugs, its really no wonder there isn't more trouble:-\

Requiem 12-29-2008 05:19 PM

How else are people going to let the bands know they suck? And how else are the people who throw the festival going to know not to book those shitty bands anymore?

A well written letter? Fuck that. Try to kill the bastards.

Cactus Sid 12-29-2008 05:52 PM

Frankly, bands like Panic and MCR are shit and deserve to be bottled.

50 Cent as well.

Requiem has it spot on, its over £150 to go to Reading or Leeds (+ expenses) you expect to see bands you like being put on, Panic and MCR don't cater for the average Reading festival goer, so the only way to show your disapproval is by showing it somehow, its a tradition which dates back to the ridiculous booking of Meatloaf as a headliner in 1989, Festival Republic understand that if someone is bottled, thats not the type of band to book.

2008 - No bottlings, they booked the right bands and put them on the right days where the people watching would like most of the bands on that stage. My Chemical Romance were put on just after Slayer and Bullet for my Valentine and before Pearl Jam, what do you expect?

So what you are saying, is that anyone who doesn't make music you like is perfectly OK to attempt to assault at best, kill at worst.

Idiotic. Lineups are announced well in advance. You know what bands are there before you spend the money. Even if you get tickets before the entire lineup is announced, you should have the wherewithal to realize that it's a big festival which a ton of bands are gonna play, and you are more than likely not gonna want to see every one.

If there's a band you don't want to see, no one's making you watch them. Go eat or drink or get merch or something. Don't try to hurt them to show your disapproval.

Penner 12-29-2008 06:22 PM

And your stupid argument about how it only happens once a year is ridiculous. That doesn't make a difference. Warped Tour only comes once to Toronto a year, you don't see me bottling 3OH!3.

ct2k 12-29-2008 06:23 PM

Hey Blitz I hear if you complain about something long enough it just goes away, so you're doing a great job right now, a few more posts and people won't bottle shit bands at Reading and Leeds anymore

Blitz 12-29-2008 06:46 PM

Espousing an opinion that trying to kill someone based on disliking their music is retarded is complaining.

ct2k 12-29-2008 06:53 PM

They're trying to kill them?

Blitz 12-29-2008 07:01 PM

Now come on ct2k. You're not an idiot. What do you suppose they're trying to do. You don't throw a glass bottle at someone without the intent to at minimum injure.

ct2k 12-29-2008 07:01 PM

I dunno, I think it is ludicrous honestly, I've not been serious in this thread aside from expressing my opinions on said bands music. But like I said, it happens, and honestly the promotors should have seen it happening, so why they booked them in the first place is beyond me.

Yknow I've been revising offences against the person today, quite fitting:o

Mike the Metal Ed 12-29-2008 07:09 PM

Just to be clear, bottles at festivals tend to be made of plastic. :y:

Ogen 12-29-2008 11:38 PM

Plastic bottles most of the time without lids on them be less worried about being injured by one than you would by being hit by the contents of one ( to be blunt a nice load of piss ). Dunno I think its fucking hilarious too. As Bon Jovi said he learnt to dance dodging bottles full of piss in England.

Penner 12-30-2008 12:14 AM

they never give caps at concerts here

The Mask 12-30-2008 12:43 AM

yeah you have no chance of them being glass bottles. when i went to leeds you were only allowed to take cans. bottles were confiscated before you even got to the tent area. obviously some got through but not enough to have all those people throwing glass bottles.

Downunder 12-30-2008 01:33 AM

Those videos are pretty ROFL tbh

XL 12-30-2008 02:27 AM

It's something that really only happens on mass at Reading/Leeds. That festival has a very slightly rockier edge to it and (stereotypically) rock fans are in no way tollerant of other types of music, therefore a 50 Cent or even Panic/MCR (emo bands if you like) are bound to bedisliked.

Where as at V Festival you can quite happily stand and ironically watch Girls Aloud on the Main Stage.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-30-2008 09:17 AM

Leeds and Reading always have shitty line-ups, with a few decent bands. As such the people there shouldn't be surprised when a shit band pops up. Anyways, bottling is just another example of the British, mental-defective mentality that inhabits a great percentage of the population... or at least festival-going population [/contempt for countrymen].

Yeah I guess you're right. It looked like the Panic dude was pretty bruised by it though.

True but like at Warped Tour it ranges from Metal to Emo and you don't see this happening.

XL 01-01-2009 07:31 AM

Well, like Infierno said, we as a nation are violent hoodlums by nature.

The Destroyer 01-01-2009 09:35 AM

Especially when we've got a drink or two in us.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-01-2009 10:19 AM

Happened to Bowling for Soup the year I went, but the singer said "Thanks for the coke", opened the bottle, pretended to drink it and then spit and said "THATS NOT COKE". A bottle was not thrown after that.

El Fangel 01-01-2009 10:24 AM

I went to that Nickelback concert last year (shut up) only band that was bottled was Hedley and that was alot of bottles.

Danny Electric 01-01-2009 10:27 PM

I have been caught up in many bottle fights and hated it.
I've also seem some girl walk past me with blood streaming down her face due to a bottle.
Doesn't matter if it's plastic,still gonna hurt.

Shame they can't eject these idiots from the shows.

They booked them.

Bad Company 01-02-2009 12:13 AM

I think it's fucking great. It's tradition at those festivals to bottle the shit bands. And those bands are shit.
Also lol at Blitz and Penner, stop being pussies.

The Mackem 01-02-2009 03:49 AM

We'll stop throwing bottles at rock bands when you guys stop clubbing baby seals.

As I said before I've seen people get really hurt and that isn't nice to see.

ct2k 01-02-2009 09:25 AM

Thing is, they often have a band like Slayer headlining, now a SHIT load of Slayer fans will go for them alone, and they'd probably bottle the fuck out of Metallica let alone some pussyrock band like Panic At the Disco.

Throwing liquor bottles at Metallica. The irony.
