Kevin Pietersen has resigned as England captain in the wake of his rift with Peter Moores, BBC Sport understands.

Andrew Strauss is expected to be named as Pietersen's interim successor at an England and Wales Cricket Board press conference at The Oval at 1800 BST.

Pietersen needs to be in the England team in order to make the most money. His agents will tell him that. Sure, he can go to the IPL and make some cash there, but he can make even more money off sponsorship in the UK, etc. if he continues to play for the team. He will play in the ashes, I assure you.

Pretty funny Pieterson thinking the ECB would pick him over the coach.
