Well, it looks like my 360 is having some sort of hardware failure
First of all: FUCK!!!
Second: It's the single red light on the bottom right of the ring and the E 74 code, so (according to some brief research) it's either a fucked AV cable or the scaler chip it connects to. Fuuuuuuuuuuck. Really didn't wanna take this thing in.Here's the thing tho: if I end up getting this thing replaced (I bought an extended in-store warranty because I am smart), can I just pop off the 20/60gb hdd and pop on my 120gb one? Or is that gonna cause some problems? I know some of you guys have had red rings and shit, and I'd rather not lose all my data. |
Nah, you're golden, all the drives are plug and play basically. No real ties to a console.
|
HBM is right; I swapped my drives and everything was good.
|
Well, that's good, I guess.
|
That's not true. Since doing my swap, I have to be signed into Live in order to play the full version of an arcade game I bought on my old system. I can only play the trials while offline.

Yeah, they've made a science out of fucking up.
An artform, even. |
Well, I'm fucked because it's not the AV cable, so new question: How long does the fixing/replacing usually take?
|
Jesus fuck, I did it but it says I have to download all my shit again. That's 79 things on a connection 14x faster than dial up. It's going to take me until summer to get this done.

Really? Been a while since I've done it, but I'm sure I never had to download anything again.
|
Really. After transferring, I logged off Live and still only had access to trial games. Makes no sense because the fucking games are on my hdd. So why d/l the data I already have.
|
For fuck's sake, I'd better not have to deal with that too.
|
You'd get it back in 3 weeks or so. I sent mine in via UPS on Dec. 17 and got it back Jan 6th. They sent me a brand new unit, as they couldn't fix the old one and sent me a free month of Gold.
Take it to a UPS, or whatever it is y'all have up there, and they'll package it up for you. Just make sure you totally disconnect everything and send just the base unit, minus the harddrive. You can go to XBox's site and let them know you're sending it in and they'll email you a lable to print out that covers postage. When I sent mine, I had to purchase a box and shit because one wasn't sent to me. Good luck mang. |
Much appreciated, Purgy.
They said I'd get my box in 10 - 15 days. Gonna suck not having it around over the next 5 weeks or so, but I certainly hope I get that free month of gold, since this is gonna cut into my subscription. |
During my weeks of downtime, I got very familiar with my Wii.
|
Th wii is pretty crap as far as new games go. Pretty good for VC I guess, tho. Needs a proper hard drive too.
On the flip side, I just recently acquired a bunch of new DS games and I got some of the old ones I'd forgot in the states shipped over. \m/ |
Ok I lied.
I played the Wii for a week, then went out and bought a new 360. Then sold the old one for like $50 less than I paid. |

I also got a kick out of the fact that our UPS Store here has a department that specializes in the packaging of the 360's. |
They sent me a month of Gold the last two times.
Also, it may take you longer depending on Locale. If you're sending it from the States, the further you are from the distro center, the longer it takes. I'm about as far as you can get, and it takes about 5 weeks from shipping. |
... lame. I'm In Edmonton. Fucking customs slows anything coming via UPS down to a crawl.
