Star Wars Battlefront III

We remember Free Radical closing, right? Well they weren't working on a new Time Splitters at the time...

Yes, it's real deal. Fucking Epic. SW Battlefront 2 is my favorite SW game and let me tell you the boys at Free Radical were going to smash expectations. Hopefully Lucasarts hands the remainder of the code to Pademic so they can finish (although it looks ready to go). And holy shit at :36. That's a huge map. Like Battlefield 2 PC huge.

Wow

It's going in my blog right now!

The force is ....

I'm buying it.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-16-2009 02:36 AM

I hated 1 & 2 but Free Radical might have made it interesting.

Oh, and they were working on TS4 as well at the time.

Kalyx triaD 01-16-2009 02:39 AM

The game looked like it plays the same (thank God), with the inclusion of what can only be described as "campaign mode better than the movies."

Fignuts 01-16-2009 09:16 AM

Some of theose maps look huge. I'm thinking we're going to see 64 player servers here.

Yeah, why would you think they weren't? Did you not see the monkey in the Halo mask?

KingofOldSchool 01-16-2009 12:32 PM

Meh.

Would have rather seen KOTOR III.

That's... Bioware...

Jeritron 01-16-2009 02:05 PM

That looks absolutely incredible as a video game. On top of that, it looks absolutely incredible as a Star Wars fan. So much depth to it. It's got basically everything that reminds me why I've loved Star Wars my whole life

Kalyx triaD 01-16-2009 02:50 PM

Space battles and badass Jedi. That's all I need.

No shit.

Doesn't change the fact I would rather see a third installment of Knights of the Old Republic.

The former employee, who wishes to be known only as Thomas Dudenaughty, told SPOnG, "It's genuine. However, it's my understanding that the game's been passed to a new developer, but the tech that allowed you to fly from the ground, to air, to orbit, to space dies with Free Radical's involvement. The new developer will be making it a cutscene every time you want to transition from ground to space."
The new devloper is Rebellion. The ones that did the Renegade Sqaudron for PSP

Kalyx triaD 01-16-2009 05:45 PM

Update:

The game has been passed to a new dev team, no word on who. However, that part where you went from a platform all the way to a space (and inside a freakin carrier!), that was Free Radical's tech and [cannot be replicated by said new team].

God dammit.

But what was SWB2 developer Pandemic doing anyway? Thread in a few. Warning: Ignorance is once again bliss. Hint: Why So Serious...

A member of the Free Radical, now a debunk band of core member (so they still exist in a sense), spoke in detail about the situation with Battlefront 3 and Timesplitters. He says SWB3 was damn well near complete, but Lucas Arts never gave them a deadline. You might think that sort of thing is what devs dream about, but not so. They weren't even allowed press, presumably to keep (the weaker) Force Unleashed in the spotlight. They were working on Battlefront 3 for over a year. The game code was handed off already, but specific tech (like the in-game orbital transitions) stayed with FR, "for whatever reason..." says the team member. It seems they would have been happy to hand over at the very least. Word is there will be a cutscene in between planetary and orbital travels now (gay). The multiplayer was pretty much running near finished.

And Timesplitters 4 was also far ahead, and he said it was WAY better than the Battlefront 3 game. "Head and shoulders" above what we've seen. That game still has a chance, and a buyer could be swayed by the talent seen in the 'leaked' Battlefront vid (good move, 'Radical).

As for Haze's suckage, he says there were tech issues and pressure from Publisher Ubisoft to make the game a futuristic suckfest (which explains a lot).

Hope his team the best.

Yeah, god forbid we have a little fun with the star wars universe.

I thought that was already confirmed?

Kalyx triaD 01-17-2009 07:40 PM

That would be the MMO game. Not really 'part 3'. Some people are displeased with the change in gameplay. There's some lengthy preview articles on the matter.

Mr Regal 01-18-2009 07:48 AM

I clicked the vid and got "Chris Brown with a Boner".........

Never had the chance to play the battle front games but a mate of mine had it pegged as the best thing ever. I will more than likely be all over this when it's released.

So does this mean the game is alive? Or was this just something you found recently? Way to re-open a dead thread for no reason.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 01:55 AM

Why the fuck would you post this? Do you enjoy my suffering or something?

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:15 AM

This is an epic tease. Who knows how many assets are floating around. Who knows when somebody will finish it.

Is Pandemic still around?

This vid was uploaded yesterday. Yesterday.

LuigiD 04-04-2012 04:37 AM

Those bastards.
So heartbroken over the death of Battlefront III:'(

#BROKEN Hasney 04-04-2012 04:50 AM

It was found on the Raccoon City disc as the SOCOM B-Team were working on it. After playing that, thank your various gods that it never came out.

The Free Radical version on the other hand...

EDIT: That video wasn't found on Raccoon City, but a bunch of assets were.

And Pandemic aren't still around. They were bought by EA in 2007 then promptly shut down in 2009.

The Destroyer 04-04-2012 06:43 AM

Seems fairly safe to say that this game is long dead.
