ECW Title?

Why oh why did they take the title off Hardy? Plus to some random guy that, probably half this board (Including myself) have never heard of. Matt gave that belt some meaning, and to give a "World Title" to a rookie?

Come on now.............

thedamndest 01-17-2009 07:08 PM

1) Matt Hardy is getting fired
2) Matt Hardy is filming a movie
3) Matt Hardy will start feuding with Edge and Christian
4) It was a pointless change and he will get it back at the Rumble

Please vote now.

Xero 01-17-2009 07:09 PM

5) I CAN SLAP A TORNADO!!!!!

Juan 01-17-2009 07:27 PM

I think Matt Hardy is ready for bigger and better things. Plus Jack Swagger is awesome.

thedamndest 01-17-2009 07:29 PM

So Juan votes 3?

Juan 01-17-2009 07:30 PM

Yes, 3.

Juan 01-17-2009 07:31 PM

Although, I won't rule out 4.

thedamndest 01-17-2009 07:36 PM

I was thinking they were building towards a Matt v. Jeff v. Edge. v. Christian ladder match at Mania. But it would be stupid to do that then with MitB. So then I thought maybe they would have those four in the CHAMBER and have Matt win that and turn heel, though that is a pretty rushed turn and screws the E&C storyline, not to mention HHH isn't in the title picture (though he would be free to face Taker, I doubt they would bank on Matt v. Jeff to carry the title match at Mania).

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:54 PM

Well, they do have Cena. Cena/Orton could easily be their headline, with a Taker vs HHH or HBM match being their non-title headliner.

Everyones convinced that HBM and JBL will definitely lead to a mania main event, but judging how WWE operates I don't know why thats set in stone. They could easily put an end to that at one of the next two ppvs, or even on a random raw.
I wouldn't count out HBM/Taker happening yet.

Who knows what else they'll put out of there as a "main event." Look at the past two years.

So, I wouldn't rule out a WWE title match like that going down.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 07:59 PM

I also wouldn't bet a cent on it though. Given the fact that theres 2 world titles and the winner of the rumble last year didn't even use his shot at Mania, I don't know how anyone would be expected to venture a guess.

Juan 01-17-2009 07:59 PM

I think eventually we'll see Matt v. Jeff v. Edge. v. Christian l in some fashion, but doing at WM would seem a bit rushed.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 08:02 PM

I dunno. A lot can and has happened between Rumble and Mania. It will happen this year at some point though.
You could easily see Edge and Christian team up within the next month, and then Jeff vs Christian at No Way Out, while Matt and Edge go at it. Then all it takes is one GM announcement of a Four Way TLC and it's booked.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 08:04 PM

Batista's winning the rumble though. So lets not get too excited

You know what would be badass, a tag team, double jeopardy esque money in the bank.... I know, it's sounds like a TNA gimmick, but still.

Have like the Hardys vs Edge and Christian vs CM Punk and Kofi (not the best choice, but they'd make sense for it.)

Have whichever team gets the briefcase down first wins, but then it's put back up, and the winning team fights each other for a world title show. SO if Edge and Christian won, the two of them would immediately compete against each other in a ladder match for the MitB.

I know, it sounds convoluted, but it COULD be cool.

Jeritron 01-17-2009 08:15 PM

I think it's a big enough match that it just needs to be cut and dry. Those four, ladders, world title, ppv.

Halbowsky 01-17-2009 09:15 PM

I'm still hoping to see E&C vs Hardyz for WrestleMania

The Optimist 01-17-2009 09:42 PM

6) I CAN DRY A PUSSY YEAH!

James Steele 01-17-2009 09:45 PM

I smell a swerve. Matt Hardy/Edge/Christian form The New New Brood and make Jeff Hardy's life miserable. Jeff Hardy loses at WrestleMania and isn't seen again.

At SummerSlam, Gangrel makes his epic return in order to lead his group The Brood in their ultimate destiny...destroying The Undertaker in revenge for the floggings Taker gave them back in The Ministry.

At SummerSlam, The Brood IV vs Undertaker/Kane in a HELL IN A CELL FIRST BLOOD MATCH. In the middle of the match, the middle of the ring explodes and out comes a demonic cocaine-enraged JEFF HARDY!!! Jeff Hardy assaults The Brood IV until all of the members are left in a bloody mess as Kane and Undertaker look in awe at the new Jeff Hardy.

Jeff Hardy begins to attack each member of The Brood in the weeks building up to Survivor Series. At Unforgiven, he takes out Christian. At No Mercy, he takes out Edge. At Cyber Sunday, he takes out Gangrel. The demon-like Jeff Hardy challenges his brother to a 2/3 falls match at the Survivor Series. Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy battle for almost an hour as Jeff wins the 1st fall, Matt wins the seconds fall. The 3rd fall looks to be in Jeff Hardy's favor as he covers Matt after a Swanton off the top of 3 ladders stacked on a table set on fire and covered in mustard.

The lights go out, and come back on with Matt and Jeff being blood bathed in the shape of a cross. They are both pinning each other so the ref counts to 3 and declares the match a draw. Suddenly, a bright white light fills the arena as the bodies of Matt and Jeff are raised to the top of the arena...

The lights go out and the music plays...

MORDECAI HAS COME TO CLEANSE THE WWE OF ITS SINS!!!!!!

Mr. Nerfect 01-17-2009 10:38 PM

I'd like to think that they have bigger plans for Matt Hardy, such as teaming with Jeff Hardy to feud with Edge & Christian for WrestleMania, but they could just be switching the title for ADD's sake.

James Steele 01-17-2009 11:40 PM

Noid, this is all leading to Mordecai coming in at Survivor Series and beating Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI and become the new face of sports entertainment. BANK ON IT!

The Optimist 01-18-2009 01:54 AM

James Steele, you're a silly man.

And the writers at WWE just wrote that down and are filming it now.

Didn't/doesn't MAtt have some kind of injury?

Why aren't any of you talking about how awesome Jack Swagger is?

One out of everybody. Way to go.

Anybody Thrilla 01-18-2009 04:52 PM

I do agree with Juan, though.

Jack Swagger needs this more than Matt Hardy.

thedamndest 01-18-2009 10:20 PM

I've been reconsidering my thought on Edge v. Christian v. Jeff v. Matt in a ladder match at Mania. In addition to the aforementioned reasons why NOT to do it yet, in business terms it makes better sense to hold off on it because it's like their one PPV that sells itself. Now I'm thinking a much slower build to Summerslam. This would still give HHH his title shot. Then things can work out so HBK gets his freedom and can take on Taker, Orton takes on Cena, and we all win.

thedamndest 01-18-2009 10:21 PM

Also, Swagger is awesome.

Well, except for those watching Cena vs. Orton.

I'm thinking that they may run The Hardys vs. Edge & Christian at WrestleMania, and call it the "Tag Team Match of the Quarter-Century," or something. As I see John Morrison in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, I could very easily see the World Tag Team Championship being won by one of the teams, and defended in this match.

A Ladder Match between Edge, Christian, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy (either in teams or as opponents) could happen at a PPV later down the track, as you said. Probably not as late as Summerslam, but I think it could be used for something other than Mania.

Oh, and by the way, Jack Swagger is awesome. Doesn't him winning the ECW Title make him the fastest risen star in WWE history? Bobby Lashley took over a year to win the ECW Title, I believe. Kurt Angle took almost a year. Brock Lesnar took five months, so I think Swagger beats him by about one month.

Swagger should start playing that up, if it's true. But I suppose I can trust Matt Striker to bring it up. Best commentator in the business right now. One thing I'll add about Swagger: I really like it that he's actually a heel, and not just a cocky guy we are meant to boo. This guy actually plays an asshole that backs up what he says, which makes him even more dislikable.

XL 01-21-2009 03:00 PM

He may well have won the title in less time than Lesnar but it's hardly as prestigious.

When Lesnar won the WWE Title it was the top belt. The only top belt.

Swagger won the ECW Title (NOTE: not the ECW World Title).

Merely schematics. You can argue that it doesn't mean as much, but the WWE still call Triple H a twelve-time WWE Champion. They can twist it to how they want. Of course Swagger winning the ECW Title isn't nearly as prestigious as Brock Lesnar becoming Undisputed Champion at age 25, but Swagger still sets the record.

The only people who will question it are probably marks for the guy, anyway.

Ruien 01-22-2009 05:54 AM

Santino won the IC belt on his first apperance. He sets the record by far, if we are going this way about it. ECW title is not a world title, its a second tier title.

Jeritron 01-22-2009 10:26 PM

Yea, I do agree that maybe waiting on Edge v Christian v Jeff vs Matt might be wiser. I want to see it badly, but it would be wiser from a booking standpoint to hold off.
They can get a lot out of the program either way though.

There can be different combinations of singles matches from Jeff vs Edge, to Jeff vs Christian, and likewise with Matt Hardy.
There can also be plain and simple tag matches between the two teams.
I wouldn't be suprised if we saw Jeff vs Christian at No Way Out, and Matt vs Edge, then a regular tag team contest at Wrestlemania.

Over the summer they could do a number of things. The 4 way TLC match for the title will be a huge draw, as would a 4 way or Tag Team Hell in a Cell.
They could do great tv matches with regular or gimmick matches involving various combinations of the 4.

The angle has legs if they don't throw it away

Jeritron 01-22-2009 10:29 PM

In theory, if it started at Royal Rumble, the angle could carry through Summerslam before it lost steam. There's a number of matches and things that could be done. From there, they could also lead into a singles fued stemming from it, like Christian vs Edge with one turning face.
It could be huge for Smackdown all year.
