Anyone use their X-Box as a media player?

Like for streaming it from your pc? Just managed to set it up today on my new xbox could never get it to work on the old one for some reason so now its allowing me to watch files on my television which is good and the porn that I have in .avi format is working fine, but films I've downloaded which are also .avi aren't working any idea?

#BROKEN Hasney 01-18-2009 12:53 PM

.avi isn't a video codec, just a container, so somethings work in .avi and not others.

Your best bet is just to use this to stream:

http://tversity.com/

It will re-code any incompatible codecs for you while you watch it on your XBox

Yeah was trying that earlier couldn't get it going xbox was coming up with a problem connecting to my pc which obviously doesn't exsist if it can connect to it using media centre. Is there a way of converting my video files into compatible ones thats easy and hassle free like not waiting around for hours for one file to be converted?

ACtually got tversity working this is fucking class :cool@

RoXer 01-18-2009 04:46 PM

Wow. Sgand's gunna read this and laugh. I was just texting him about problems I was having streaming certain files.

Lemme try that link

RoXer 01-18-2009 05:12 PM

Didn't help. Then again, can't really see what I'm doing.

My Laptop backlight is out so I have trouble viewing things. I downloaded a "24 Season 1" torrent a couple days ago. It runs fine on any media player I use on my comp but when I stream to my XBox it gets choppy and out of synch. I download lots of movies/tv episodes and they stream fine to my XBox.

When I burnt "24 Season 1" to a disc and played it in my XBox everything matched up just fine. It's only when I stream does it get choppy.

I tried running that program but I can't see wtf I'm doing. Will it help?

G 01-18-2009 06:07 PM

If you've already burnt it to a disc, why do you want to stream it? Yeah, when I saw this I was like WTF Roxer is texting Ogen.

RoXer 01-18-2009 06:30 PM

I'm downloading 8 episodes at a time and now I'm on the 2nd batch. 9-16

Ogen 01-18-2009 08:48 PM

Right have this thing working full blast now and it couldn't be better now Hasney to complete the task for maximum points and become my favourite person ever is it in anyway possible to use this TVersity for streaming football and then stream that to my X-Box thus watching Villa live on tv instead of pc :D?

G 01-18-2009 08:57 PM

I sure would love to try all this, except my Vista seems to be missing Media Center somehow. :wtf:

Ogen 01-18-2009 09:00 PM

Well thats why you have tversity it acts as its own server or something like I have my pc come up in the xbox then tversity seperately so won't be a problem.

Ogen 01-18-2009 09:01 PM

That guide should give you everything you need to know obviously ignoring step 2.

Have you got Ultimate?

Xero 01-19-2009 08:32 AM

I use my XBox with XBMC, not the shitty 360 player.

No, but I thought all versions were suppose to have it.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-19-2009 11:36 AM

No, just Ultimate

G 01-19-2009 11:44 AM

Microsoft says I should have it.

Hm, didn't know it was on Home Premium. Well as long as you don't have Home Basic, then I'm not sure whats goin on there.

RoXer 01-19-2009 11:59 AM

You don't even need media center to stream to your xbox

G 01-19-2009 12:02 PM

The point of this is that I am missing something I should have. I do not care about streaming to my xbox, because I only use my tv for gaming. I watch movies on my computer.

Ogen 01-20-2009 12:48 AM

I fucking hate technology had this working fine was playing anything I asked it to now out of nowhere its saying some of the files can't be played as they are an unsupported format despite it playing some of these files earlier today  idea?

Ogen 01-20-2009 01:50 AM

Hmm working again now, I'll never understand how technology can decide to just randomly work and not work when nothing changes
