CM Punk tidbit *RAW Spoilers*
I've seen KingOfOldSchool around these parts talking about how CM Punk is apparently the second fastest guy to win the Triple Crown in WWE history, and I sort of just accepted it. But reading up on some news reports, CM Punk is being touted as the fastest guy to do it.
Kevin Nash won the World Tag Team Championship, Intercontinental Championship and WWE Championship in 227 days. CM Punk apparently did it in 203 days. Good for Punk, I say. |
He was also one of the fastest guys to go from WWE champion to midcard.
|
Yeah, because the WWE hates Punk. That's right.
|
Matters very little. The quality of doing so is far more important. How long did it take Shawn Michaels, 10 years?
They're doing the right thing with him now, that's all I will say. I just wish they did what they're doing now sooner. |
Noid, I didn't say the E hates Punk. But this is where he should be right now. That fluke title win shouldn't have happened and made him look terrible and now they do have to build him back up if they expect him to be credible on that level legitimately. His match with Regal was excellent and right now as long as he is a fighting champion he could compete at that level in the next two years or so.

Nash was the fastest and Punk was the second. |
I'd go with KoOS' take on it.
Also, Nash's win will always be more legitimate to me cos of the number of titles available in WWE today. You've effectively got twice as many chances to do a "Triple Crown". |

The Triple Crown is only consisting of either the WWE or World title, the IC Title, and a Tag title. Since Punk has only been on ECW and Raw, I think you can say this one is just as impressive. Especially considering how he did get the titles within 6 months of debuting on Raw, which is the show needed for the Triple Crown. |
This makes me very angry. How dare he beat Nash's record. Ah well, at least Nash looked like a real champion. Does Nash still have the fastest title win? Cause punks was fast and cheap.
|
Here's the real question...Did Punk really lose the championship?
|
Punk's in the doghouse.

I seriously doubt this was intentional. I'm sure it's a case of short-sighted booking than anything else.
|
Yea, I highly doubt the thought process behind it was to make him a triple crown. It sort of just happens or it doesn't. Undertaker and Brock aren't triple crown winners and they were pushed to the moon.
|
Everyone is a triple crown champion now a days. Jeff Hardy is, Matt Hardy could be (if the US and ECW titles count towards it), Jericho is.
Serious question, what are the titles you need to win to have the triple crown, or does any combnation of tag, midcard, and mainevent title work? And if so, where is the ECW title in this, because if it is a midcard title, CM Punk was already a triple crown winner. |
^ WWE/WHC, IC and Tag
|
I think Grand Slam is more of an honor that Triple Crown tbh. But seeing as the European title isn't available anymore, i guess those who are in that category will be the only ones.
|
Well, the triple crown has more history, but the grand slam has less people, and the names are more quality. Kane is a triple crown champion with his one day WWF title run. Plus Kane is an original defition triple crown champion. CM Punk is not.
|
I don't see why the US title isn't counted in this, especially considering the WHC is. While it is slightly lower than the IC title, they're the same level title, and the US title holds a decent history.
I'd say, if we're restricting anything, it should be down to the WWE, IC and WWE Tag. Otherwise, every title except the two Women's championships and the Cruiser title should count. And yes, I'm counting the ECW championship in that, only at the IC level and not the World level. |
