Looks like no more One Night Stands for WWE...

From PWInsider:

With WWE's move towards PG-TV ratings for all programming, the June One Night Stand PPV will likely receive a name change, possibly to "Extreme Rules" but that isn't 100%.

BigDaddyCool 01-26-2009 06:40 PM

Whatever.

Jeritron 01-26-2009 06:42 PM

I'll take it further than that. I say good.

They need to cut the ppv anyways. They're tribranded now anyways, and it puts the total over the 12 a year format.
Also, it doesn't even have the gimmick of being an old school ECW event anymore anyways. It was acceptable to do an extra PPV when there was a special occasion for it, and it was booked differently. Even with brand seperation it could be justified.

Pointless now. Glad they cut it.

They're not getting rid of it, just renaming it.

Jeritron 01-26-2009 06:50 PM

Yea my bad

Jeritron 01-26-2009 06:50 PM

Well, now I wish they were getting rid of it.

Xero 01-26-2009 06:55 PM

I agree with your point. In fact, I think WWE would benefit from dropping to, say, 10 PPVs a year. All the PPVs seem rushed lately and most of them only have a two week build (whether there was a PPV in the past three weeks or not). More build up between shows should mean more buys in the long run*.

*As long as the writing is good.

Afterlife 01-26-2009 07:00 PM

They only had one ONS, anyway.

Afterlife 01-26-2009 07:02 PM

Also, I don't think they need to cut that one, specifically. Because an entire night of hardcore matches could be great. But there are so many ppvs thatare all the same, it's ridiculous.

Xero 01-26-2009 07:08 PM

I think they should move the Elimination Chamber PPV to June. I don't like having two gimmick PPVs followed by their big PPVs in a three month span. The double/triple Chamber PPV concept is fine, but should be left for a lull in the year, not be an easy out for Mania matches and swerves.

Jeritron 01-26-2009 07:10 PM

I think they should have a triple decker cage. That's a great place for swerves

Xero 01-26-2009 07:19 PM

Yeah, and I can get a free Slurpee by sticking my finger up my ass.

RP 01-26-2009 07:20 PM

triple decker taco

Boondock Saint 01-26-2009 08:42 PM

Well according to WWE.com it is officially now called Extreme Rules.

Fox 01-26-2009 08:51 PM

What a terrible title.

Jeritron 01-26-2009 08:53 PM

Well we don't want to use a term associated with privates and doing the no-no now would we?

Lux 01-26-2009 08:54 PM

Can't wait to buy a ticket to Extreme Rules, it'll be awesome!

So, how do you do a PPV full of hardcore matches and still maintain a PG rating? Seems to me that the concept is a problem moreso than the name.

Fox 01-26-2009 09:15 PM

World Wrestling Entertainment presents "Safe Word"

The most Extreme show on the planet!

FourFifty 01-26-2009 09:17 PM

I don't see a problem with a pg rated extreme card, aside from I don't like it.

With the current talent it is possible to pull it off. Last night at the Rumble when Rey did the baseball slide kick to the nuts is a good way to go PG-XTREME!!!! Make a no holds bared match and the faces can kick the heels in the nuts without getting dq'ed.

Showcase high flying action which turns into a small spot fest on the outside (they gotta sign Pac for this). Set it up like the championship scramble.

Have a falls count anywhere match with Jeff Hardy (or someone else who isn't afraid to jump off of something stupidly high) just to build up to one spot.

A tables or casket match can end without one chair shot

Same goes for a "something on a pole" or a flag match.

Make a ladder match that doesn't turn into a TLC match. HBK vs Razor Ramon is still a great match by today's standards.

Hell, you have 6-8 matches right there. Throw in a diva battle royal time filler, and you're set for a PG-XTREME ACTION!!!!

There's a good chance that "Extreme" will be nothing more than marketing, as has the majority of the claims in the name of the ECW brand in the first place.

Kane Knight 01-27-2009 12:49 AM

I can't wait for them to rename Wrestlemania "Lipstick on a Pig."

They will stop doing the hardcore gimmick matches (First blood, barbed wire, I Quit) and replace them with newer, more innovative concepts. Like the Road Wild Match which will take place on the back of a cage enclosed semi-truck flatbed! Or a Monster Truck match, where they will fight with Monster Trucks until one gets pushed off the top of a building. Or maybe a "Someone Is Poopy" match, where the loser gets dumped into a casket... filled with doody!

Kane Knight 01-27-2009 10:18 AM

Howabout a "fans bring their own weapons" match. Except, you know, since the fans are all kids, they will hold out Spongebob toys and Nerf weapons.

Volare 01-27-2009 11:19 AM

Don't forget rolled up Cena posters.

Kane Knight 01-27-2009 12:32 PM

Those might have thumb tacks!

Volare 01-27-2009 12:44 PM

And tape!! That could stick the poster with thumbtack on them longer!

Kane Knight 01-27-2009 12:50 PM

Even worse, Sticky Tack! That'll last longer and it's re-usable!

owenbrown 01-27-2009 01:07 PM

why not just name 'em all either "Clusterfuck", "Cena wins" or "UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START"

Volare 01-27-2009 01:08 PM

OMGBBQSAUCE!! The Sticky Tack! The Sticky Tack! TAZZ! THE STICKY TACK!

They're hoping WWE fans have issues with pattern recognition. And given everything we've witnessed, it may be the case.

Volare 01-27-2009 01:23 PM

In agreeance with KK, do you honestly think (besides us video game veterans) they're gonna know WTF U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,B,A,Start is all about?
