Divx dvd player
 

So i'm thinking of getting a dvd player that can play divx files.... but have a few questions.

1. Should I get a divx dvd player that can read USB? I guess the question i'm trying to ask here, in terms of playback, does it make a difference if the divx file is being read of a dvd or usb key?

2. Assuming that indeed I do have to put the video files onto a dvd, how does this work in terms of burning the actual dvd? If i'm using NERO for example, would I basically be burning a 'data dvd' so to speak?

3. Can divx dvd players play all kinds of divx files? What i mean by this is, I noticie some tv shows, movies, etc are encodded with different resolutions, bitrates (audio and/or video), etc.

1. If you get a dvd player with a USB you can then simply transfer video files from your PC onto a flash drive and the DVD player will read it via the USB. There might be a difference in speed associated with this and the "sampling" rate the DVD player works at.

2. When you burn your DVD disc you simply make a "Data" DVD with Nero (or similar burning software). Suggestion - do not make "Folders". Simply burn the files directly onto the "root" of the DVD. If you create folders on the DVD, some DVD players will not "look inside" these folders and hence not play the file(s).

3. I believe there is a difference between DVD players that "Play DivX" files and those that are "DivX Certified".

Recently I was thinking of going down this path but decided on getting a Western Digital HDTV media player instead. I have this attached to a portable hard drive - works brilliantly.

Best advice burn a DVD with a couple of video files and also put some files onto a flash drive. Head down to the retailer and ask to see how the DVD players actually work with your own DVD/flash drive.
