Top 5 best mic legends from both WWE and WCW since 1980..
And i mean 5 from each company. Dude, The Rock's shit is going to be fucking golden until the end of time. I was looking at some 90s footage of Ric Flair backstage and his work is uncanny as well. Piper could also do his thing too. But who are the top 5 in your opinion(s)?
Its really easy for the first 2 or 3 but after that, its kind of a toss up. I'm not just talking "made you laugh" or "who was the most over" but who could just do mic work and not even have to wrestle and still be one of the most popular guys in his/her company. My list is: WWE: 1 - Ric Flair 2 - The Rock 3 - Piper/Macho Man 4 - Curt Henning ..see, i honestly can't even finish it right now.. |
Dibiase, Bobby The Brain, The Rock, Flair, Jake the Snake.

Cant disagree there. |
I just think it's kind of unfair to put a commentator in there. I think that'd be a different category.
It is unfair, but i can see as a manager where they are coming from
Yea that is true. I thought he'd get most of his credibt for being classic with Monsoon, but from the manager standpoint that's fair.
I think the guys mentioned are great, but I also think Foley, Jericho, and a couple others should be up for consideration. |
MIKE ADAMLE
Why wouldn't Austin be up there? he was great in his time. Flair is definitely Tops on this list, And I would have to list Rocky Second. If we are gonna add WCW, I would love to see Nash, Arn Anderson, and Dusty Rhodes.
How can Hogan not even get a mention? I hate the guy as much as the next, but I won't deny he's easily a top five talker of all time.
A Talker? Granted, he had Charisma out the anus. But I just don't remember his promos as legendary. All I remember was that whole vitamins pushups prayers brother! That wasn't very memeroable.
In Hogan's defense there, it's not like The Rock gave Mick Foley/Jake the Snake style promos. They were amazing, but they were full of catchphrases and potty humor. They were intense, and exciting for the crowd, but they honestly did have very little substance 95% of the time.
And yet he was completely over based almost solely on his talking. As the opening poster said, that's the criteria. Honestly, I'd put him number two, under Flair.
I can't wait until Zen shows up and nominates Bret/Owen
I know it doesnt' go here but FUCK that GI Joe trailer looked fun!

I didn't say accurate, or parallel to the GI Joe that we grew up with. I said it looked fun. It looks like there will be a ton of fights, explosions and special effects. To me that is fun. I'm sure there will be tons of time to poke holes in the story.
You know who had a great entrance? Goldberg.

The more explosions and special effects the more fun. In conclusion, The Island or Armageddon is more fun than say, Ghostbusters? or Back to the Future?
There are different types of fun. Yes explosions, effects, and fight scenes can be fun, and they are fun to me.
Ghostbusters had an excellent cast that were in their comedic prime, and Back to the Future was the perfect storm of plot actors and great perfromances. Your two examples are of movies that I'd call GREAT. G.I. Joe is fun. In summation, fun movie doesn't have to be great, but a great movie is always fun. Thank you for reading. |
WWE
Shawn Michaels Piper The Rock Bobby Heenan Jake Roberts WCW Chris Jericho Dusty Rhodes Ric Flair Hulk Hogan Scott Steiner ;) |

Pillman was fucking immense. But Piper takes the cake here. Jericho is actually highly overrated on the mic, however. |
Shane Douglas is underrated. I'll stand by that.
What does the TPWW sayeth about DDP?
Yea, DDP had some good mic skills, but he wasn't really that much of a talker. But when he did have the stick or was being interviewed, he was pretty solid.
The Rock
Flair Raven Austin Jericho Those aren't in any order. Runner ups include HBK, Paul Heyman (just for his "Death to SPorts Entertainment" promo alone.), and Vince McMahon. |
say what you will but brets promo's in 97 where the best all that year.
Warrior :shifty:
That's a hell of a long period... to pick only 5 is doing a disservice to several gifted orators... but here's my plump, in no order:
Hulk Hogan Roddy Piper Ric Flair Dusty Rhodes The Rock Which, as I said, is omitting some amazing talkers like Jake Roberts, Steve Austin, Jim Cornette, Bobby Heenan, Jerry Lawler, Ted DiBiase Sr, Paul Heyman, Randy Savage, Jesse Ventura, Brian Pillman, Mick Foley... sorry to all those who are saying Jericho but, top class as he is, he isn't better than any of the above, IMO. |
