THE BEST guitar solo in a classic rock song.

Without a doubt is Freebird. it's a 5 minutes long, and is so ****ing good. So what do you think is the best classic rock solo?

Also, Eruption by Van Halen is sweet, I just think it's a tad bit too short. :-\

11. For The Love Of God - Steve Vai
13. November Rain - Slash

Smitty 03-26-2004 03:38 PM

I SAID CLASSIC ROCK, GEEZ!

Tranny 03-26-2004 04:28 PM

Why is freebird not noteworthy?

Kane Knight 03-26-2004 04:31 PM

Brian May...Brighton Rock...

Especially the like 40+minute versions he did live.

Generally, I don't go for super-long solos, it's just that there's a lot of awesome shit in the live versions that didn't see through on the record.

Blink 182 - "Dammit"

:shifty:

I don't even know if it actually has a solo :$

samichna 03-26-2004 04:48 PM

Yeah it has a "solo" that consists of like 4 notes.

Tranny 03-26-2004 05:45 PM

I like the solo in Bohemian Rhapsody. First one that came to mind. Nothing revolutionary I guess.

FacelessBum 03-27-2004 01:17 AM

Free Bird

Mostly because it's long and it gets me pumped up.

Rob 03-28-2004 04:44 AM

Back In Black by AC/DC

Well, in So. Cal, they play them on classic rock stations. So... I guess. They've been around long enough to be. Since '79..... I think.

StrongMad 03-28-2004 05:37 PM

Oh shit, forgot about Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Blues=jizz.

Maybe opinions will have changed or newbs like me have an opinion on this.

I love Eruption, but my favourite guitar solo is from Hotel California. Nothing spectacular, but it just fits so well with the song, much like the guitar solo on Freebird.

Jason Cage 10-20-2005 12:22 PM

Freebird that solo is fucking sick. Hotel California is pretty awesome too.

Mike the Metal Ed 10-20-2005 12:38 PM

Freebird and November Rain, definately.

Shaved Monkey 10-20-2005 01:08 PM

The guitar solo on Light my Fire was pretty good too.

DaveWadding 10-20-2005 02:02 PM

Hotel California. That's it.

loopydate 10-20-2005 06:37 PM

Hotel California.

While the "solo" part of Layla isn't very long, the guitar work throughout is so phenomenal it gets an honorable mention from me.

Innovator 10-20-2005 07:44 PM

Freebird

RoXer 10-20-2005 08:00 PM

MISSISSIPPI QUEEN

Watson 10-20-2005 10:02 PM

Hotel California - The Eagles

November Rain - Guns N' Roses

Ride On - AC/DC (RIP Bon Scott)

I'm So Afraid - Fleetwood Mac (From the concert album "The Dance")

I Can't Tell You Why - The Eagles (Slow song but the guitar solo near the end is awesome)

FakeLaser 10-20-2005 11:53 PM

My favorites:

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (the live version from delecate sound of thunder is even better)
Pink Floyd - Time
Pink Floyd - Dogs
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Led Zeppelin - No Quarter
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
The Eagles - Hotel California
Van Halen - Eruption
Neil Young - Cortez the Killer
Guns N' Roses - November Rain
Jeff Beck - Since We've Ended As Lovers

The Miz 10-22-2005 07:08 PM

Eruption, no. Tapping is gay

el fregadero 10-22-2005 08:11 PM

I wouldn't go that far, Miz, but Eruption is definitely not one of classic rock's best solos.
