problems editing a mp3

Google gives me too many results.

And by light, I do not mean something like Adobe Audition.

If you have Nero installed, you should already have Nero WaveEditor already installed, unless you chose not to install it in the initial setup, of course.

Audacity is your hook up.

Total Recorder allows you to crop files.

Downloaded Audacity, which I'm pretty sure I've used before. Dunno where it went on my HD, probably deleted it. I do have Nero Wave Editor, which seems to be the same as what Audacity does, so I guess I'll use that since I already have it.

I for the life of me cannot seem to keep the kbps rate the same after cropping a mp3. The sound quality always comes out crap compared to the original. For instance, the original is around 300, but the edited file goes down to 80. I cannot find anywhere on either Audacity or Nero WaveEditor that lets me change this. All I want to do is cut some of the song out while preserving the quality of the song.

Have you tried playing around in the Settings? There may be an option that lets you change the output bitrate.

G 03-12-2010 05:50 PM

yeah i can't find anything in either program. tried it with audacity, and the quality seems to not deteriorate as badly, so i am just using that.

Funky Fly 03-15-2010 09:16 AM

In Audacity: Edit > Preferences > MP3 Export Setup > Bit Rate
