Preliminary Reports on WrestleMania XX Buy Rates

WWE said its first-week estimate of Pay-Per-View buys is 825,000, exceeding Pay-Per-View buys for WrestleMania XIX by 25 percent. WWE expects that final Pay-Per-View tallies, once all information is provided by distributors and their affiliates, will be between 900,000 buys to 950,000 buys. The suggested retail price for WrestleMania XX was $49.95 as compared to a suggested retail price of $39.95 for WrestleMania XIX.

The number of buys for WrestleMania XX is an estimate based upon preliminary data available from the WWE's Pay-Per-View distributors and their affiliates and is subject to refinement as further information becomes available from these distributors over the next several months. The estimate has been posted on corporate.wwe.com in accordance with WWE's practice of updating the website weekly to reflect certain key drivers of its business including television ratings, pay-per-view buys and live event attendance.

So how is that compared to the buyrate of WM17 which i believe was the highest buyrate of all time?

The CyNick 03-26-2004 07:38 PM

17 did about 950k buys, but with preliminary reporting the way it is, XX could wind up besting that number, althought it would seem more likely that it will come in right around 900K buys.

17 also did 42.5 mil in revenues, so with the increased price, this year's Mania will beat that number making it the most money making show of all time.

Hey they did a helluva job with the year-long promotion, so its well deserved. Considering they really didn't have that big money match that they had with Manias 17 or 18 it shows that the name "Wrestlemania XX" is what really drew in the people.

Next year's Mania might be a tough sell though, depending what they can get for the show.

Very nice. Looks like their hard work and good booking (in the months before) worked out for them.

With the price of the PPV being higher this year though, WM XX will draw in more PPV revenue than 17 did. I thought it would do well but this not well so fair play to them.

Remember, they did spend over $5 million in advertising before hand so that cuts into the profit.

Well the solid storylines and booking for WMXX made up some of the dreadful mistakes WWE made in 2003... :y:

Yeah, but it's all about spin.
