Hogan at Wrestlemania 25?

Anyone else think this Jericho angle is gonna end up with him and Hogan at 25?

Team Sheep 02-17-2009 03:26 PM

Nah. It'll be either Rourke or Austin.

CSL 02-17-2009 03:54 PM

Hogan's on that list somewhere, gonna take a few peeps to say no first though, including the 2 above

Triple Naitch 02-17-2009 03:56 PM

I wouldn't put it past the WWE to have him wreslte. I would prefer Austin, but I'm afraid that if he has a bad match it would ruin the entire weekend dedicated to him.

The only reason i dont want to see Austin in a match

Team Sheep 02-17-2009 04:59 PM

I stand corrected, it could well indeed be Hogan now. As much as I kinda don't like the guy, I'd love to experience Hulkamania live.

Xero 02-17-2009 05:01 PM

Xero, do you honestly believe that, or are you just fearful?

It should be Austin, but you know Hogan might come looking around for a payday.

Hogan should be sitting home fixing his family.

I'm willing to bet Rourke won't do it.

So what's plan C?

No, because that negates both my questions and doesn't answer anything.

It'll be Stone Cold. He's making his way through Hall of Famers. Eventually he is going to bump into the guy heading off this year's class.

For the record, there's a rumor that Austin will be the special ref for Hunter/Orton. So that takes Austin out of the equation, assuming it's true.

As far as Austin being the ref in Triple H/Orton goes, I think the only way that'd make sense is because McMahon is meant to be inducting Austin.

Fabien Barthez 02-17-2009 08:21 PM

I thought this last week actually. I think the longer it goes without an aparrent opponent for him, the more likely it will be Hogan.

Unless they have been holding Mickey back until after the Oscars. I think that is probably the case.

screech 02-17-2009 08:21 PM

I hope not. I don't want to have to suffer through another Hogan match.

thedamndest 02-17-2009 08:25 PM

If Hogan puts over Jericho and the match is short, I would be for it. Otherwise, no.

I'm not interested in a Rourke match at all.

Fox 02-17-2009 09:12 PM

Jericho is great and all, but I don't think even he could carry Hogan to a good match at this point. Jericho vs. Austin would be great and all, but I would think they would bring in Austin for an epic encounter like Cena vs. Austin.

Xero 02-17-2009 09:15 PM

I think Cena is short about 10 years of experience to work a good, substantial match with Austin and keep him safe. Plus, why would they push Cena into a match where he will be more undoubtably the heel than ever before?

Personally, I don't think Austin is going to wrestle. If he was going to, they would have plotted it a long long time ago, and I think the match would have been with HBK.

NeanderCarl 02-17-2009 11:07 PM

To be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing Hogan wrestle Jericho, with it being the 25th WrestleMania show, as a nod to history. Hogan has missed every milestone Mania since the early 90s. X, XV, XX... didn't show up at any of them... I'd be happy enough to see him at XXV and you know it will be a well booked match (if not spectacular), will be a nice nostalgia trip in featuring a lot of old timers and Hall of Famers and will probably still somehow involve Rourke too.

Plus, at his age and wrestling so sporadically over the last few years, it could well be Hogan's last match too. May as well have the biggest name in the business retire at the biggest show.

Personally I don't wanna see Austin or Hogan at Wrestlemania (unless it's in a HOF capacity). As this is the 25th edition of Wrestlemania (and should be special) I'd like the format they used with WM20, where it's like just current wrestlers. No bullshit legends and McMahon storylines, just a straight up solid event with plenty of great matches with the best of the best, today!

LK 02-18-2009 02:05 PM

Am I the only one that really doesn't get the obsession with the need for Austin to have "one last match" or what?

Double turn!!!!

Mr. Nerfect 02-19-2009 12:46 AM

Apparently Vince McMahon has been talking to Hogan about competing at WrestleMania XXV, and one of the matches discussed was John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan. Personally, I'd rather see that than almost any other John Cena match. Why? Because I would actually cheer John Cena, and when Cena won, I would feel good about it. I want to like Cena, I really do. Him going over Hogan would be a step towards that.

It's a bit funny that the only way to get me to cheer Cena, is to put him against the biggest pure babyface of all-time. I guess it's just the type.

However, given that Cena and Edge have started to build for a WrestleMania match between them (Yay! Boredom!), there have been rumours going around that it will be Jericho vs. Hogan at WrestleMania. Given that he's been a Hall of Famer for a few years, dare I say that Hogan actually makes more sense than Austin right now. I mean, Austin goes into the Hall of Fame, then immediately fights Jericho for the honour of all the other Hall of Famers? Since when has Austin took a stand to fight for what's right?

I agree with you on your first point, but I think the second is obvious. Cena vs. Austin would be a massive draw on many different levels, and that means more money for the WWE. I mean, when has Cena being boo'd out of the building ever been a deterrent for the company before? One Night Stand and WM22 are both prime examples. When the fans boo Cena in Texas, the simple cover from the announce team is "Well, we are in Texas and this is the return of one of the biggest stars in the history of the WWE." That easy.

At this point though, I also do not think Austin is coming back.

Mr. Nerfect 02-19-2009 03:15 AM

The only thing about Cena vs. Austin that I can see the company not liking, is just how much it exposes Cena. Austin's hard-edged persona is just so much more likeable and exciting, even now. If Austin does one of those promos where he dresses down Cena ("You think you're so big in your little John Cena cap, your little John Cena armbands, your little John Cena bracelets, etc."), it will make Cena look so crappy.

Hogan is actually far less likely to expose Cena aesthetically, because they are very similar personalities.

thedamndest 02-19-2009 03:59 AM

If Austin or Hogan just stand in the ring with Cena, Cena will get booed out of the arena. They need a definite heel to oppose either man, and as I said in a previous post, for all Cena's accomplishments, he isn't nearly legendary enough to be considered worthy of a "dream match" for either man, thus negating the possibilities of face v. face.

Hopefully, this doesn't happen. The WWE are mistaken if they think Hogan will elicit the same level of face pops that he did when he faced The Rock. This is no longer 2002.

A large part of Hogan's cheers stemmed from the fact that the fans weren't supposed to cheer for him. Hulkamania was revitalized as result of that.

Furthermore - I highly HIGHLY doubt that Hulk Hogan would do the job for Jericho.....especially if he didn't do it for the likes of Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton (both of which are bigger stars than Jericho).

Furthermore - even IF Jericho got a victory over Hogan, it would ultimately be WASTED...since the WWE, in all likelihood, will never let Jericho be their #1 guy. Jericho is well behind John Cena, Randy Orton, Dave Batista, Edge and Triple H on the company depth chart.

This is another reason why I don't want Jericho to hypothetically defeat someone like Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania.

If Austin or Hogan were to face Jericho, it should result in a victory for the 'legend'.....and this of course, would suck for Jericho and his fans. :(

Krimzon7 02-20-2009 06:08 PM

Well said my Hindu friend, I think that This whole angle is fucked if it isn't The Ram at WM. Austin just shouldn't wrestle. His neck as well as his legacy is to delicate. I just don't want to see Hogan on my screen. Who's big enough for Jericho to face, and beat? Flair shouldn't fuck up his great send off. I say scrap this shit, let JBL job to Taker, and have HBK and Jericho tangle.

I would personally go with HBK/Jericho as well (with HBK going over).

I would have Jericho assault one of the legends on RAW (i.e. Flair or whoever), and then have Shawn Michaels come out to make the save. This then leads to a match.

Here are THREE (3) matches that I do NOT want to see:

-Edge vs. Cena
-HBK vs. Taker
-Jericho defeating Austin or Hogan

Edge vs. Cena serves no purpose since

a) It's already been done a million times
b) Cena going over doesn't do anything for Cena's career
c) Edge going over does nothing since Edge would still be in the same position that he's always been in (i.e. an overglorified transitional world champion that will never be THE #1 guy).

HBK vs. Taker is already a foregone conclusion since Taker's streak will never be ended. HBK jobbing to Taker serves no purpose for the company. HBK is better off either doing a job to an up-and-comer, OR, having a match with another great technical wrestler.....so that we as a fans can see a 5 star match.

Jericho is another guy who will never be the #1 guy in the company....and therefore should not go over a 'legend' like Austin or Hogan. If the WWE goes this route, the 'legend' should win hands down. A Jericho victory would hurt the reputation of the legend (particularly Austin) more than it would help Jericho.

Matches that I would LIKE to see:

-Rock or Austin def Cena (Cena turns heel AFTER the match and gets a return victory one month later)

-CM Punk def. Edge

-Undertaker def. Priceless (Rhodes & Dibiase).

That last match might raise a few eyebrows, but here's my viewpoint:

  1. Undertaker will win all of his Wrestlemania matches anyways
  2. Priceless is 'above' the tag team ranks in stature now
  3. Priceless gets "big match exposure" by being in a high profile match with Taker
  4. A "2-1" match might lead fans to believe that Taker might lose.

thedamndest 02-20-2009 06:31 PM

So you don't want Jericho to go over Hogan?

Krimzon7 02-20-2009 06:37 PM

THe Mark in me wants to see Edge win a solid match at WM. HBK/Taker should ONLY be done if Taker is doing the job in his last match.

CM Punk/Edge would be nice, next year. I like the Legacy/Taker idea, if they could build them up more. like give them some true badass wins, and let them Jump Taker a few times.
