Favorite fights from the DB/Z/GT series
 

Wasn't sure how to title it but I just bought Season 8 of DBZ which features my favorite fight of them all... Goku vs. Vegeta II

And I saw that there are quite a few fans of the series so I was curious as to the favorite fights either from DragonBall, DragonBall Z, or even GT.

Goku vs. Vegeta I was good but I think the second one surpassed it.

Cell Games > Gohan going SSJ2, albeit it was a one sided affair...

I was always curious as to if Gohan didnt damage his arm, how the actual fight after Goku died would have resulted. Cell was stronger it seemed, but still even more powerful than Gohan? Shame they didnt touch upon that.

I havent seen the Vegeta/Goku second fight in a long time, but all i remember is them doing about 100 "overhead kicks" to each other throughout.

Goten vs Trunks
Goku vs Vegeta (Sayijin Saga)
Goku vs Frieza (before it went hilariously downhill for Frieza)

Hard to choose, TBH.

Goku vs. Piccolo at the end of Dragonball.

Either that or Goku vs. Tenshinhan in that tournament thingy.

I might actually like some other one more, but I don't really remember.

They where all good fights I don't know which one I liked the best out of them all.

Would ave liked to have seen a proper World Martial Arts Tournament in the Z era.

Goku vs Kid Buu.

Yeah I liked Cell vs. Gohan
And the fight Goku had vs. Cell initially... I thought that was good.
Goku vs. Frieza was good until ... those final 5 minutes spread for about 30 days
And Broly vs. everyone was just freakin awesome
But Meta-Cooler vs. Goku and Vegeta was pretty nice

Seriously loved the Meta-Cooler fights.

All time though?

Probably Piccolo and Android 17. Dunno why, but that fight was really awesome to me.

And can't forget Goku/Frieza. I didn't even care that it went on for tons of episodes.

Dragon Ball had a lot of awesome shit in it. Tien and Master Roshi were the men, but they never got to much past the original DB. Anything Roshi does pretty much makes me mark out.

I also really liked the series of fights where the "Z Fighters" were lining up to take on Nappa and Vegeta, and Nappa pretty much tore through them all, with a few moments of hope fading away for the good guys. That saga was fucking mad.

Truthfully, after that, I think the characters got too super-powered, and their fights lost a lot of drama. The levels of Super Saiyan got to be a bit ridiculous, and concepts such as fusion seemed redundant. The series was in need of serious streamlining. Also, the villains after Frieza were pretty standard. Androids? Again? Really?

It was a kids anime.

So?

So is Naruto and Bleach, but the villains at least have some kind of depth. Biggest fault with DBZ is it's cookie cutter villains, and heroes for that matter. Vegeta, Android 16, and Gohan are he only characters in the entire show that had any sort of depth, and even then, there wasn't that much.

Guess that's why after years of being a dbz fan as a kid, I now prefer Naruto. Much more character driven manga, which is better imo, because it makes you care more about the characters and what happens to them.

We're talking about a fairly old anime compared to recent anime. And yes, I stand by the 'kid's anime' angle. And more specifically, it was quite literally a series of powerful characters fighting each other with story taking a backseat. Looking for logic, even anime logic, in Dragonball Z is folly. The reason most of us watched was exactly why it was made.

Look at some of the movies that attempt to bring a stronger story to the characters, those felt less like DBZ than usual (see Tapion's movie). While Bojack's movie was completely par for the course.

In a lot of ways this is what made DBZ and I feel it didn't fail on any of it's deliveries. Then GT came along, but that's hardly the fault of the manga.

I like Dragonball, but not so much Dragonball z.

I get what you're saying, but I'm not asking for Schindler's List. Just because an anime is for "kids" doesn't mean it can't have really well developed characters and depth. I thought the earlier seasons did just fine with that, and it only really slacked off when Dr. Gero came back into it. I'm not saying it was "bad," I still watched and loved it, but it did feel more like "Holy shit! What can we do for villains?" "I dunno, man...a pink blob?"

Buu kinda sucked in the design space.

Definitely. My favourite part of that saga is actually when Hercule snapped after those bounty hunters shot Bee. It was so fun, because compared to the other charatcers in the series at that point, the strongest man on earth looked pathetic, so it was easy to forget that he was -- well, the strongest man on earth.

They sort of did that in the movie "World's Strongest," too. I think that's what it was called, anyway. Someone awoke from a massive sleep, and demanded to fight the world's strongest man...Master Roshi. Fuck, Master Roshi was awesome.

Vegeta is the most developed character out of the whole series which is also why he's one of my favorite characters. Its a shame that some of the other characters couldn't get the same treatment although they had the potential for it.

There was a lot of explaining to do as far as Bulma was concerned.
