Pretty sure I'm gonna laugh my ass off and cry my eyes out. Also the Racist Indian is in it. :y:

Jeritron 02-23-2009 02:44 PM

Yea I've been anticipating this since preproduction. Trailer looks great. Really looking forward to this

Supreme Olajuwon 02-24-2009 11:51 AM

I am really excited about this. A great cast and what appears to be a pretty interesting story. Leslie Mann as Adam Sandler's love interest might be kinda weird though

Haze 02-24-2009 01:28 PM

I can't wait for this movie!

Xero 02-24-2009 02:04 PM

I turned it off right when I realized it was Sandler.

Yeah, no thanks.

Triple Naitch 02-24-2009 02:04 PM

Really looking forward to seeing Jason Schwartzman in another movie. I'm on a Schwartzman kick right now. His music is great.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-24-2009 04:05 PM

Kinda bummed that Paul Rudd won't be in it but that's the only negative I can pick so far.

Looks good..

thedamndest 07-08-2009 03:07 PM

Bumped for Damninator.

parkmania 07-08-2009 03:24 PM

Schwartzman and Sandler together.

No thank you. Sandler's standup stuff is ok, but he SUX as an actor, IMO.

Uh-oh. I love Sandler movies. I hope this is something DBX can withstand!...:-\

:shifty:

Don't worry, Xero. I still respect you. And your movie taste.

Anyway yeah, this looks mad fucking hilarious.:y:

Hardkore Kidd J 07-20-2009 06:12 PM

I have been looking forward to this movie since I found out when it comes out at IMDB. I for one can't wait for this movie.

Legend Killer 08-01-2009 01:48 PM

I saw it last night and it was something different for Judd Apatow, which I enjoyed. He needed to branch out from the OUTRAGEOUSLY funny and experiment. Honestly, this is Sandler's best dimensional performance yet.

Any more ideas?

thedamndest 08-01-2009 02:26 PM

For those of you that saw it on opening night: Did everyone laugh when Sandler talked about the doctor looking like the guy in Die Hard? Because I am so sick of that spot in the trailers right now.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-01-2009 10:51 PM

I heard people murmuring before the scene took place, like "Oh remember this from the trailer" then it got a moderate reaction. The line about Bruce Willis wasn't in the movie thankfully.

James Steele 08-02-2009 12:09 PM

OK movie. They dragged it out way too long, and there were way too many dick jokes.

Sixx 08-02-2009 12:59 PM

Who the hell is The Racist Indian?

Googling doesn't really help.

Blitz 08-02-2009 01:34 PM

It was alright. There was enough material in here for 2 full lengths movies. Felt like it lacked resolution as well.

He doesn't like Australians.

Triple Naitch 08-02-2009 05:53 PM

The racist Indian was one of my favorite parts of the movie.

COLD........STONE........CREAMERY

I also did not laugh at the Die Hard part. I thought the funniest part was the old prank phone calls Sandler used to do.

Jeritron 08-02-2009 06:14 PM

The Indian guy played the meathead comedian perfectly. I love how he was used to show how popular an energetic but unfunny comedian can become. He played it so well it was hilarious.

"I'M TWEAKIN, I'M TWEAKIN, I'M TWEAKIN, I'M TWEAKIN!!!"

Jeritron 08-02-2009 06:15 PM

Rogen's standup bits were amazing. I honestly think he should do a special for HBO or something

I guess Apatow let them write their own bits

They definitely made it less funny by showing it before the movie came out, but there's another layer to the joke in the movie that makes it way funnier and will be all new

Really loved this movie. I loved it as a regular movie, and the great humor was just an added bonus. It was actually about something, and like Knocked Up, had a lot of heart and character behind the jokes. I was riveted the whole time.

I'm also a huge fan of standup comedy and loved the whole angle this movie took. The characters were great.

Evil Vito 08-02-2009 06:54 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Way too, IMO. Everytime you think a resolution is in sight, another problem got introduced. Just too much crammed in there for my liking.</font>

Triple Naitch 08-02-2009 07:06 PM

The atmosphere of the movie theater was so much like being at a comedy club.

kinda like real life....

SPOILER: show
Tbh, that's what I liked about it. It was true. Having George end up with the love of his life and become this enlightened man would only happen in the movies.
I loved that she stayed with her husband, and her family. In movies, nobody cares about those things. Everythings black and white, and the protagonist ends up being a great guy, and the other guy in the girl's life ends up being a prick. It wasn't that way in this. This walked a fine line between both. It was realistic that maybe she loved him more, but there isn't always a happy ending. There are other factors at work.

I also liked that in the face of death someone can set their regrets straight, but as soon as they're healthy again it's business as usual. Personality issues aren't corrected that simply, if at all.

Dorkchop 08-03-2009 01:33 PM

I saw it last night. I don't like Adam Sandler movies and want Seth Rogen to go away so I expected this movie to be ass. It was good, but not amazing. I'd give it a 7.5.

I actually laughed at some parts.

Yo, Teach episodes are actually on Youtube

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yPz02PACxVA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yPz02PACxVA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Last night most videos had anywhere from 2000 to 6000 hits. I wonder how many they'll get over the next month.

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PZ2BMhqfwLo&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PZ2BMhqfwLo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Only a couple hundred hits since last night. Let's see how many this gets in a month.

I agree that having her end up back with her husband was a good twist and whatnot...and more realistic.....I guess by that point though I was already kinda burned out by the film.

Jeritron 08-03-2009 08:53 PM

SPOILER: show
Fair enough. I found the resolution in the fact that he got a second lease on life and couldn't change. That was good for me.
Also, he ended up finding a real friend and they ended off on a good note, so there's resolution there.

I think the concept of true love not working out for practical love, or the tragedy of time running out is a downer, but strong. I see that as a resolution because there's mutual realization by both him and her, and even though its an unhappy ending its still an ending.

Resolutions are subjective though, and I can see how some would not jive with it.

What Would Kevin Do? 08-03-2009 09:26 PM

SPOILER: show
The other big resolution at the end seems to be the fact that he wasn't being selfish anymore, and was thinking about someone else, as seen in the last seen with Ira. Afterall, the entire movie he was pretty selfish, and at the end we see the first time that he was actually thinking about someone else.

Juan 08-03-2009 09:48 PM

I think I may have gotten spoiled here

Supreme Olajuwon 08-03-2009 10:05 PM

Sorry, Juan. I went through and put the spoiler tags in so others won't suffer the same fate. You're a martyr, amigo.

Jeritron 08-03-2009 10:06 PM

cold...stone....creamery

Supreme Olajuwon 08-03-2009 10:14 PM

SPOILER: show
I thought the ending was appropriate given that the movie was set up more like real life where the lines of good and evil are blurred and skewed. This wasn't a movie where George had to rescue Laura from the evil Clarke. Nobody was "the bad guy" in the film. Everyone had a flaw but also something redeeming about them as well. Each character has at least one scene where you hate them and one other scene where you like them. In a movie where character roles are undefined, it's only fitting that the resolution is undefined as well.

I was hoping they would just cut that bit out and avoid the awkward silence/obligatory laugh. Too bad :(

Jeritron 08-04-2009 01:16 PM

Anyone that has HBO, there's a great special on demand for the movie. It's the cast talking about doing standup, and it also features standup bits by the cast members. Some from the movie, some that weren't in the movie. They're pretty good.

There's also a few bits by other comedians who are in the movie, but their standup wasn't.

They did a few huge standup specials for full theaters so they could pick and choose bits to use.
I would imagine the dvd will be excellent
