The Most Boring Match!!! (main event match)

OK this is a thread for THE MOST BORING MAIN EVENT MATCH you've ever seen from either WWF/E or WCW or TNA

could be a main event at a P.P.V or a house show or live on TV???

Haze 02-24-2009 02:54 PM

First one that comes to mind is Batista vs. Big Show for the ECW title.

RGWhat316 02-24-2009 02:57 PM

Lesnar/Goldberg from WM 20, and even as recent as HHH/Kozlov at Survivor Series until Edge got involved were both pretty bad.

Mr. C 02-24-2009 03:02 PM

Shawn Michaels vs. Umaga

Volare 02-24-2009 03:41 PM

John Cena vs Khali

Fignuts 02-24-2009 03:45 PM

Antonio Inoki vs Masa Saito- Abndoned Island match.

Haze 02-24-2009 03:45 PM

Actually The Rock vs Goldberg at Backlash was really bad.

Fignuts 02-24-2009 03:48 PM

Pretty much anything with goldberg is really bad.

Triple Naitch 02-24-2009 03:50 PM

Hogan/Sting was more disappointing than boring, but still...

#1-norm-fan 02-24-2009 05:00 PM

Hogan vs. The Giant at the first NWO Souled Out has always stood out for me as the most boring main event I can remember. Ridiculously terrible atmosphere, no energy whatsoever, awful wrestling match, lame ending... and it was on PPV.

The Fonz 02-24-2009 05:01 PM

Batista vs Big Show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Really...who the fuck thought THAT was a good idea?

Nicky Fives 02-24-2009 05:06 PM

Hulk Hogan/Undertaker.....Judgment Day 2002.... absolutely horrible

NeanderCarl 02-24-2009 06:00 PM

It would be better if you restricted this to PPV... far more offensive to have a boring or lame main event at a show that television viewing fans have forked out extra money to see rather than on 'free' TV.

(House shows are another matter, arguably even more offensive to the ticket buying fan but at the same time, you have to appreciate that short cuts and low work rates are more likely at an untelevised event, when these guys are wrestling so regularly and saving themselves for the shows that actually 'count'.)

NeanderCarl 02-24-2009 06:02 PM

Undertaker vs Undertaker, SummerSlam 94, just HOW boring was that match?? Yikes.

Speaking of 1994, WWF World heavyweight champion Bret 'Hitman' Hart vs Mister Bob Backlund, Submission Match, Survivor Series. It was the billed main event, even though it didn't close the show, and it was lame.

Goldberg/Lesnar wasn't the main event.

That match definitely does not belong here. The workrate was terrible, but the fans made that match entertaining.

Fox 02-24-2009 06:11 PM

My vote goes to Ric Flair vs. Hollywood Hogan at Uncensored 1999 in a First Blood Steel Cage match. I was a mark back then and I'd bought into the whole "barb wire on top of the cage" deal they had running up to it. In retrospect, it was just a way to get fans to believe in two 50 year olds fighting it out for the big gold belt.

Worst match I've seen. Absolutely plodding and it ended with Flair pinning Hogan. Yes, PINNING him in what was billed and touted as a First Blood Match. Terrible.

Kevin Nash vs. Hulk Hogan at Road Wild 1999 is also up there. Fucking awful match with a total move count of 6 (yes, that is combined).

jimmy012345 02-24-2009 06:31 PM

undertaker vs the dudley boza at the 2004 great american bash

NeanderCarl 02-24-2009 06:56 PM

Yeah the Concrete Crypt match was craptacular, but not especially BORING.

Matches can be absolute bollocks without being even slightly boring.

Wasn't this the match with that awkward "double turn?" Didn't AA throw in a tire iron or something?

So happy I got PPV for free in those days, couldn't imagine how I would have felt if I had paid for that shit.

I didn't think that match was too terrible. Albeit it was rather slow and moves were very limited to make sure that Goldberg wouldn't be gassed and could keep up.

Rock sold everything well.

Fox 02-24-2009 11:51 PM

Undertaker vs. Hulk Hogan from Judgment Day 2002 was pretty terrible.

Stickman 02-25-2009 12:30 AM

Booker T vs Buff Bagwell on RAw.

Juan 02-25-2009 01:26 AM

I could list a bunch of matches from the late 80's, early 90's

blake639raw 02-25-2009 01:44 AM

Diesel vs. King Mabel - SummerSlam 95

Whaaaaaaaaaat??? That was one of the most entertaining matches on TV that year. It had to have been some kind of rib from Vince on the 2 of them. I mean, yeah, the match sucked but watching Batista fall apart from almost the second he comes through the curtain in front of a live audience because he didn't know how to adapt was genius (His idea of adapting: Go OTT with the shouting, chest pounding etc and taking the arm out of the tie up. Cause ya know, they wanna see wrestling moves. To see how it's done properly, see John Cena ONS '06, although tbf his circumstances weren't doomed to fail from go) The crowd made the entire thing though. "CHANGE THE CHANNEL!" is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen in wrestling

CSL 02-25-2009 03:17 PM

RoH, just with the Dick-O-Meter turned up by about a 1000% and the wit and charm eliminated completely

last sighting of a crowd like this was in Augusta, GA, in time for December 2 Dismember. "Where's my refund" was among the chants for the main event.
