A somewhat morbid topic I know...

But I'm just watching some of the interviews wrestlers did on news channels in regards to Benoit. Just watched an interview with Vince on the Today Show in which he mentioned that since he has owned the WWE, 5 wrestlers have died whilst under contract. Now obviously there is Eddie, Benoit, Pillman and Owen but who's the 5th?

Xero 02-25-2009 03:45 PM

Might be Russ Haas.

BigDaddyCool 02-25-2009 03:59 PM

Russ was only developmental, so maybe. Also, I think WCW has had far more many deaths.

LK 02-25-2009 04:07 PM

He did mention Benoit (suicide), Owen (accident) and the other three were down to heart failure, which I believe is how Russ Haas died so it must be him.

BigDaddyCool 02-25-2009 05:50 PM

Russ Haas's heart failure wasn't due to drugs, btw.

LK 02-25-2009 06:06 PM

That I know, same kind of thing as Pillman, wasn't it.

Jeritron 02-25-2009 06:33 PM

Andre

LK 02-25-2009 07:59 PM

Pretty sure Andre didn't work for the WWE when he died.

ozzman6669 02-25-2009 09:15 PM

Andre was retired when he died

Hanso Amore 02-25-2009 09:25 PM

Probably in the 80s....cant think of any recent ones.

The Mackem 02-26-2009 05:57 AM

The 5th is Russ Hass. Although it's a WWE development contract, it is still a WWE contract.

Loose Cannon 03-06-2009 11:09 PM

yea, it's Russ.

Andre actually appeared on WCW programming like 4 months before he died

There was a 6th WWE TV Personal that died while under contract. Referee Joey Marella in 94

Vastardikai 03-07-2009 02:26 AM

car accident, IIRC.

hb2k 03-12-2009 06:51 AM

LK - Pillman's heart attack was greatly accelerated by his long-term steroid and drug use.

Dave Youell 03-12-2009 10:55 AM

You know, 5 deaths in the 27 years he's been running the ship isn't that bad

Xero 03-12-2009 02:13 PM

What about before he took over? How many did Vince Sr. have to deal with?

Kane86 03-12-2009 02:32 PM

XERO! should be on the list.

That's kinda what I'm thinking.

Yeah, Vince knows how to chew people up and spit them out BEFORE they die.

Granted, but when you consider that there’s quite a few workers who were popping off in their 40’s it’s surprising that there’s not been more deaths when they have been under Vince’s control, heck, they weren’t even all drug related.

I mean, when you consider how many people he’s employed over the years, there would be an expectation of a higher death rate, just because of all the travelling his employees do and the high risk activity they take part in

Zen v.W.o. 03-15-2009 03:57 AM

Wasn't Crash Holly under contract?

Juan 03-15-2009 04:02 AM

No

Xero 03-15-2009 11:29 AM

I think he was under TNA contract, actually.

Mr. JL 03-17-2009 04:53 PM

Curt Hennig died while working with TNA... and Malice (The Wall for WCW fans) died a short while after working for TNA.

Mr. JL 03-17-2009 04:54 PM

There's someone else I feel like I am forgetting too.

Gertner 03-17-2009 07:19 PM

Al Wilson.

Gertner 03-17-2009 07:23 PM

The 5th could be Quick Draw Rick McGraw. He died of a heart attack after a match with Piper in 1985.

Chris Candido also died while he was working for TNA after the first Lockdown PPV.
