Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
I must say, I was somewhat underwhelmed. It was about what I was expecting, though. JT was great, but De Niro didn't look like he was into it at all.
:-\ |
I'll be watching tonight. Conan is a hard act to follow, but I'm interested to see how Fallon does.
I'll not lie, I already miss Consey.

He was only on his third joke in the monologue and I already missed Conando.
De Niro isn't into much of anything anymore.
Yeah. It seemed pretty lackluster overall. The sketches really weren't amusing at all, IMO. Hopefully he can find his groove sooner rather than later.
Yeah, I'm gonna not judge Fallon too harshly. It took Conan years to finally get his groove. Those first few years were brutal.
Indeed. A lot of it was that he just didn't seem terribly comfortable, but that will come in time. It just sucks 'cause Consey's been spoiling us for years.
I missed this and I am real angry. I will watch it on the internet tomorrow. I can already imagine how it would be because Fallon always seems like he is a nervous wreck anyway. I like him though.
Am i the only person thats always thought Jimmy Fallon was horrible?
I liked it.

Horrible is giving him too much credit. The man has not done a funny thing in his life. |
Does looking at the camera and laughing count as funny?
Nope? Yeah Fallon sucks |
Three minutes into the monologue and I couldn't stand it. Skipped to the "licking" segment and gave up.
I'll watch parts every night this week, but he just doesn't have it. His timing is horrendous and has that "unconfident" feel about him, among other things. |
So what is it, an hour of Fallon looking at the camera and giggling?
Pretty much.

Who made the decision to give Fallon his job? Did Conan have a say? There were rumours that Robert Smigel would get the gig (but I think that would have been really weird). People are trying to give Fallon a shot, which is fair enough -- if he turns out to be great, then we all have reasons to be happy -- but a big difference between Fallon and Conan is that this is not Fallon's first dance. Conan was a writer of comedy for many years before Late Night, but it was such a bizarre move putting him on it as host of the show. Fallon has co-starred in movies and the like.
Just saying that the comparison between Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon isn't exactly fair to Conan. I will say that Fallon's work is going to be harder, because Conan used to follow Jay Leno, whom he is funnier than. Fallon is following Conan, who is the king. JF is in a greater pool of talent. |
I'm going to be honest, though: I want to like Jimmy Fallon. I'm not sure if he's a nice guy in real life, or what, but there is something about him that makes me feel sorry for the daunting task he's got up ahead. Even though it's pretty much a dream job.
Yeah I'm gonna give him a fair shot, I bet he gets into a groove. You can't expect someones first night as a talk show host to be a hit.
I wouldn't have expected it to be complete shit, but it was.
Totally bombed the Robert DeNiro interview.
I liked it. You boyz are crazy.

It was fine, though I could never get past everything being so scripted. Eventually I'm sure he'll be comfortable enough to not make it sound like its straight from the teleprompter.
The Roots were awesome though. |
So it's his big first show, and what does he do??? He pays people $10 to lick things... Is he fucking retarded, or is he just playing up all the people who are saying he's going to suck, by purposefully fucking sucking?
Gotta blame the writers for that one I think.
For the record, I don't even really like Fallon I just wanna give him a fair shot
Don't waste your time. Watch Craig Ferguson.
The "Save a Banker" bit that was on tonight was the funniest thing that's been the show on all week.
Show 3 was absolutely different than the other two. He was comfortable and making jokes and it was fun to watch.
Cameron Diaz is nuts though. Their dance-off was surprisingly entertaining. |
Not the biggest Jimmy fan, but I do want him to succeed. Its hard to watch now since were all accustomed to the greatness that is Conan and he is trying to find a grove.
I agree with ya Boom, in that last nights show you can see the signs that he is trying to get more relaxed, but it takes time. He'll get there. |

It sounds like he's getting a bit better, which is good for him. Hopefully he can become a guilty pleasure after Conan. |
It's not like his failure means the end of Late Night. If he sucks, he can be replaced. I'm not pulling for him like he's my last hope. I hope he can be entertaining, but if not I'm not gonna sit and rally behind him. If need be, they can get the hook fast and bring in a suitable replacement.
Robert DeNiro is a notoriously terrible interview.
That being said, if I wanted a guy act shaky and nervous for an hour I'd go watch elementary school speeches. |

Fallon is awful. Can't stand him, I'd like to trip him in his opening video...
He has been pretty "bad" but something about him is so endearing to me so I actually enjoy watching the show when I watch it.
I kind of enjoy it now too. It isn't anywhere near as good as Conan or Leno, but the guests are good and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere. The stuff they do with the guests and the crowd is really simple, but it holds my attention.
It's passable while laying in bed. I'd also take it over Craig Ferguson or Carson Daly, or even Jimmy Kimmel. I was watching one night and there was a skit with Michael Showalter and A.D. Miles as snobby ivy league spring-breakers. That was superb and likely the high point of the show to date. Very Conan-esque. |
