If the WWE does a 2009 King of the Ring tournament...

Who should win? Who do you think could really use the rub of winning the same tournament that arguably launched Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H to higher careers?

For me, it'd be a toss-up between Jack Swagger and John Morrison. I'd lean a little towards Morrison, as I think Swagger is bound for the top based solely on his talents right now. I don't think he needs the King of the Ring win to keep him moving.

The Miz

Juan 03-05-2009 12:05 AM

His theme is really growing on me

I think if John Morrison or The Miz won the King of the Ring, it would lead to a feud between them, hopefully getting both guys over. I'd go with Morrison as King of the Ring this year, with The Miz winning the ECW Title sometime in August or September.

thedamndest 03-05-2009 12:13 AM

MVP, Matt Hardy, or Morrison would probably be my picks, in that order.

Mr. Nerfect 03-05-2009 12:18 AM

Matt Hardy winning would be very cool. It'd finally be that notch on his belt that could elevate him to being more than "The Other Hardy."

Hornicane 03-05-2009 12:48 AM

I'd go with MVP. It could be a good transition into the upper midcard for him.

Krimzon7 03-05-2009 08:10 AM

MVP or Morrison. Period. In fact, I would have those two meet in the Finals. That could be a great match! MVP's Ground and Pound vs. Morrison's Agility. Their Charisma alone could make the match. Then MVP could go over Morrison, and cut a promo on Morrison telling hime he lost because he'd rather make stupid internet videos, and be a jester. MVP is fit to be King...

That could lead to Morrison adding more of an edge to his character, and legitimizing hime for the future.

Triple Naitch 03-05-2009 10:39 AM

Ted DiBiase

What Would Kevin Do? 03-05-2009 10:56 AM

MVP, Morrison, Evan Bourne, or Shelton Benjamin.

Innovator 03-05-2009 11:05 AM

I was thinking of Bourne, or at least Bourne making the finals

Nicky Fives 03-05-2009 12:11 PM

Bourne defeats Swagger in a non-title upset, starting a title program between the 2

BigDaddyCool 03-05-2009 12:17 PM

Can we at least wait until after Mania to figure out if they are going to have a king of the ring? I mean they have been swerving us left and right this year.

Fox 03-05-2009 01:37 PM

Awesome Kong should debut in WWE and become the first woman to win KOTR. Thus will begin the reign of King Kong. She can go to ECW and feud with Christian over the ECW Title.

Besides for possible copy right issues, that is workable.

If someone tries to sue, WWE counter-sues the other party for racial hate crimes and prejudice for comparing a large black woman to a large black monkey.

Mark Henry is the silverback...so they need to hide that.

Miz and Morrison are too über to separate right yet. Let them become more established and have fun why they young. Keeps them from wanting to get titles and make bad career decisions (TNA?) behind da scenes

They're like the modern Edge & Christian.

Mr. C 03-05-2009 04:59 PM

MVP. I’d have Matt Hardy and MVP meet in the finals, then MVP could go over Hardy.

That would be fantastic, especially if they stretch the tourney out this year like they have before. Even a brief build-up to that match could produce some epic promos.

Krimzon7 03-05-2009 06:25 PM

Four String, you are right! Can you imagine a Dirt Sheet devoted to KOTR? And MVP completely shredding it? I mean MVP has the VIP Lounge, but it is clearly a show in the vein of The Highlight Reel...as in a segment for a champ to cut a killer promo to generate heat. The best part about this fantasy fued, is that both could back up the talk with great work1

Ruien 03-05-2009 06:31 PM

Jack Swagger, rather see a heel win it. Also not wanting to break up Morrison and The Miz.

True story. Plus having MVP go over Morrison means that there'd really be no reason to break up Mizorisson prematurely.

Nark Order 03-05-2009 07:27 PM

In the first round Swagger should have an Iron Man Match against Christian where he pins him cleanly 136 times in a row in 15 minutes to just really drive the point home.

OMAR DAYS 03-05-2009 08:08 PM

I think William Regal should retain his King of the Ring crown. :shifty:

Destor 03-05-2009 08:10 PM

If it were up to me it would be Ted Jr

The only way we will really know if they have a King of the Ring is when they announce it, BDC. It's not like there's detective work to be done. And this thread is operating under the hypothetical suggestion that they will do one.

I'm actually going to agree with you there.

Evan Bourne has been tossed out there as a name to win, but I think it is too early for him to really rise through the crop like that. Give it at least another year for Bourne. I have a feeling he is going to start racking up titles and career making performances soon, so he really doesn't need to win a tournament like this so fast.

Mr. Kennedy is a name that I haven't seen thrown out there yet. I know he's not exactly everyone's favourite guy right now, but he is very talented, and someone the WWE obviously wants to use as a bigger-than-average star. Getting something like the King of the Ring behind him could be a perfect way to get him back on the rise.
