Why did Midway never make Mutant League Football for next gen systems?

You realize that game could make forty billion dollars, right? Such a fun concept back in the day, and they could really spice it up and make it a good football game with slick graphics and sick injuries/kills. I'm not even sure why I'm making this thread, but I'm disappointed that this will never happen now.

BTW, NFL Blitz is not the same, damn it.

My guess would be because it's owned by EA, as they created the Mutant League games.

Kane Knight 03-11-2009 09:25 AM

Good Answer.

Either that or whoever got the rights to the cartoon.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-11-2009 10:05 AM

The cartoon was based on the games so EA still have the rights.

I think any sport would make a good mutant league game, especially as an XBLA/PSN title. If 3v3 NHL Arcade sold well, we may well see a return of the series IMO.

Anybody Thrilla 03-11-2009 01:36 PM

Really? I thought it was Midway for some reason. Probably because there was a team called the Midway Monsters.

Regardless of who made it, they should make a new one.

Also, the cartoon was amazing.

Funky Fly 03-11-2009 03:49 PM

I dunno, Mutant Football League totally sounds like something I'd see on the SNES/Genesis, not PS3/360.

Anybody Thrilla 03-12-2009 01:54 PM

That's because you're not looking at the big picture, Funky. It was based on the Madden engine, and that was a pretty easy transition from SNES/Genesis to PS3/360. I just thought it was a very unique idea and if it looked as fantastic as it could today, it would be amazing. I thought the same thing about the original GTA, and look what happened there.

Kane86 03-12-2009 02:29 PM

WHo remebers the cartoon.

Funky Fly 03-12-2009 06:13 PM

Wait, this actually was on the 16 bit consoles? I was just referring to how the title sounded like a game I would have seen way black in the day.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-12-2009 08:00 PM

Yeah, go emulate Mutant League Football on Genesis now. It's still pretty damn fun.

Savio 03-12-2009 08:12 PM

is it on VC yet?

Funky Fly 03-12-2009 08:25 PM

It was my favorite cartoon at the time. Great storylines.

Anybody Thrilla 03-13-2009 02:42 AM

And if you do get around to digging it up Funky, it's Mutant League Football, not Mutant Football League. There was also Mutant League Hockey and they started on a Mutant League Basketball that was never released.

Anybody Thrilla 03-13-2009 02:43 AM

You could bribe the ref for shit sake. Brilliant. Ten yards for nose picking? Excellent.

Vastardikai 03-14-2009 04:54 AM

Best play ever?

KILL THE REF!

Skippord 03-14-2009 05:00 AM

Mutant League Hockey was amazing

Shadow 03-14-2009 05:09 AM

I've been singing the praises of this awsome awsome game for years now.

Come on now EA....bring it back for me to enjoy.

Anybody Thrilla 03-16-2009 01:53 PM

I will play you online when it comes out, Shadow.

thedamndest 03-16-2009 02:14 PM

I wonder what a game like that would be rated today. Didn't you behead other players when you clotheslined them? So fun, so pre-Mortal Kombat. How young we were.

YESSSSSSSS

#BROKEN Hasney 03-16-2009 02:33 PM

Oh, and here's something that some testers at EA put together and showed them to try and get people at the company to make it:

That video says it was a fan creation.

Honestly, I think it'll still happen one day. You've heard it here first.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-17-2009 04:18 AM

If you go to the videos page on YouTube and click more info, it tells you about the tester thing.
