Vince on TNA,UFC,Orton Fued and Ratings.

Vince McMahon Calls TNA iMPACT ‘Reprehensible’, More
By Ryan Clark on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 at 12:18 PM EST

The Hollywood Reporter has an interview with Vince McMahon today promoting Wrestlemania XXV. Here are some highlights from the interview:

If UFC and other mixed martial arts programming has had an impact on WWE: “Most people thought at one point that we would be competitors. But it turns out they are not competition to us at all, or hardly at all. They are sport, we are entertainment; it’s a huge difference. The revenue they have cut into is that of boxing.”

If it’s okay to show Triple H invading Randy Orton’s home with a sledgehammer: “Right. What we try to do in situations like that is use things that you can’t find around the house. You will never see us use a baseball bat. You don’t find folding metal chairs around the house. We are very selective. You can go up to the line. It’s storytelling; that’s how our business thrives. If you have well-defined characters and put them in the right story line against other characters, people care about their welfare.”

If he’s concerned with the ratings in recent weeks: “Quite frankly our TV ratings have been very good. We averaged over a 4, I think, three weeks ago. Last week and the week before it was a bit less so because of a number of factors: how many people watched TV and one-off events. What you have to look at is our overall reach in the course of a week. On TV, we reach over 15 million people each and every week, 52 weeks a year.”

Whether he is concerned with rival promotion TNA Wrestling as competition: “My concern with TNA is not in terms of competition. My concern with TNA is that they are TV-14, and we are PG. They have to change with the times. I think some of the things they do on television are reprehensible, but it is a TV-14 rating. That’s the only bone I have to pick with them. Their TV ratings are a fraction of ours.”

What Would Kevin Do? 03-25-2009 02:04 PM

This coming from the guy that had HHH pretending to fuck a corpse....

erickman 03-25-2009 02:20 PM

then there is the kiss my ass club

Destor 03-25-2009 02:33 PM

LOL VINCE

Nowhere Man 03-25-2009 02:41 PM

To be fair, TNA's booking can be pretty reprehensible indeed.

really? i don't have some in my basement?

Destor 03-25-2009 02:43 PM

It soooo funny though. He changes his rating like a week ago and is all high and mighty about being children freindly.

ron the dial 03-25-2009 02:46 PM

wouldn't tna shooting for a more mature audience be beneficial to vince anyway if he wants the younger audience? why would he want to pick that bone? he can't say because he is offended. well he can, but come on.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-25-2009 02:49 PM

This reminds me of the time Austin broke into Pillman's house and Pillman had obviously been to the WWE prop department to get himself a gun, as you never find a gun in a house.

Blitz 03-25-2009 02:50 PM

lol hilarious.

RGWhat316 03-25-2009 02:57 PM

I lol at that hes upset at TNA still being TV-14. Thats one of the things I actually like about them. People still use swear words, they still get busted open, and they dont have characters like John Cena. I guess since i'm not 10 years old, I don't fit into everything Vince does now. So I do watch TNA for that reason. Hell, Vince still has people get hit by sledgehammers and go through glass windows, yet they never bleed anymore.

i saw ric flair bleed on monday

thedamndest 03-25-2009 03:02 PM

Flair bleeds if you look at him wrong, so I don't blame the WWE for that one.

LOL exactly what i was gonna say. Vince seems to change his tune weekly, WWF used to be very kid friendly and then in the mid 90's it changed and im near sure Vince is on record as saying it wasn't for kids to watch. Now its dumbed down again so they dont get any more media attention since the media has been all over them for the deaths in recent years.

Vince seriously needs to step down, he lost the plot long ago. He's a 63 year old trying to stay in touch with people in their teens, (or people under 10 after reading his latest bs). They've basically just bowed to this PC bullshit and are acting like it was their intention to go that way eventually anyway.

Im just waiting on him starting the TWF (Toddlers wrestling federation) seems to be the way things are going. Im sure one of triple h's kids will be all over that one, "shes getting pushed because she's suckling on stephanies tits!!!!".

RVDmark 03-25-2009 03:26 PM

So its ok to handcuff your enemy, knock out his wife, sexually assault her (technically), and then hit him with a sledgehammer, in an arena full of children. But TNA is reprihensible.

Personally I havent got children, and really dont care what WWE does in this way as I find the non child stuff more entertaining. But this does reek of hypocracy. (thats not spelt right is it)

Destor 03-25-2009 03:30 PM

hipacracie

Kane Knight 03-25-2009 04:45 PM

His ratings are going down going into wrestlemania. Yeah, good job, Vince.

Jeritron 03-25-2009 04:46 PM

rofl

StingerSplash4Lyf 03-25-2009 05:54 PM

i guess he has a problem with the sting bat

Fox 03-25-2009 08:55 PM

I'm pretty sure he meant that they will never use objects like that in angles involving at-home assaults; not that they shouldn't be used ever. A sledgehammer is a bit cartoonish, I must admit.

Don't see anything wrong with what he's saying. He's a businessman and knows how to portray himself in whatever light he feels. I think I heard someone say once that for Vince, there are no mistakes or false steps. The decisions made in the past were right for then, and the decisions made for today are right for today.

The man is clearly insane.

BigDaddyCool 03-25-2009 09:01 PM

Long story short, Vince has nothing to worry about from TNA in the near future.

Fabien Barthez 03-25-2009 09:11 PM

Change with the times? His business has only declined since this change. And isn't TNA getting better ticket sales, ratings and turning a higher profit than last year?

Really bizzare comments, from someone who shouldn't really be suprising me with them anymore.

Probably just bitter because Sting didn't come to WWE

Yes, TNA did finally quit hemorrhaging money.

His answers make sense to someone with little or no knowledge of the wrestling industry, which is probably what he was after. How often does he sit down for a grill session with smarks?

Vince McMahon stood for morality while our corroding society was cheering for a wife-beating alcoholic with no respect for authority.
