Am I the only one who thinks Parks and Recreation looks terrible?
The new show starting next week that stars Amy Poehler. All of the commercials make it look like it is trying to be The Office, but Amy Poehler doesn't come off as funny or Michael Scott-esque at all in the commercials.
The only thing the show seems to have going for it is Aziz Ansari, who really should have his own show because he might be the next big star on TV comedy. There's a good chance I'm completely on my own here, because I also can't see the appeal of 30 Rock, but what do you guys think? |
You are like the Skip Bayless of the Office scene, hater..
LOL
And 30 Rock is amazing, Alec Baldwin is simply amazing in that show.
No IC, they're all amazing.
It's from the same people who do The Office

i understand why you could compare them, but why would you compare them? that's not the point.
i'm undecided on the show right now. i'll give it a chance, but the previews haven't blown me away or gotten me super hyped. |
I don't understand what you are trying to say about the comparison issue.
you said that amy poehler is not as funny as steve carrell. so what? you said that her character does not come off as Michael Scott-esque. so what? are you looking for another The Office? sure, the formats will be similar, but i'm looking for something different. i'm glad if she doesn't seem Michael Scott-esque.
You're drawing conclusions that don't match. Where do you get that I am looking for another The Office?
What's being said is that this show looks like a less funny rip-off of The Office. |
I really don't see how that it's it's ripping off the Office at all. From the character description
Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), a "mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana"[6] who hopes to advance her career and improve her town, while working towards her goal of becoming the first female president. it doesn't sound like she is in a similar position at work, despite having a similar job title. It's hard to tell what's "funny" right now because there isn't a context for the show. No episodes have been aired. All you have is a premise, but really you have no way of telling if anything is actually funny at this point. If anything is trying to make it seem like the Office, it's the obvious mockumentary style, but the Office did not invent that. I can't think of any really hilarious Amy Poehler skits on SNL, but I also can't remember thinking she was terrible either. I do not know who the guy you mentioned is. |
The guy I mentioned cold legitimately replace Michael Scott on the Office and make it work. Look him up.
Also, apparently they are sandwiching the first episode of this show between two new episodes of the Office, so I guess we'll have no excuse to skip it :) |
BCWWF takes it in the Fun Cooker.
Pretty much what I expected. Aziz is the best part of the show, and it's trying to be the Office but doesn't have the character power. I feel like the idea has some potential, it'll be interesting to see if the characters develop a little better in the upcoming episodes.
i liked what i saw. definitely interested in seeing where they take this.
A few LOL moments tonight..
I didn't think it was that funny. I still like the premise, but I didn't think the execution was there. Granted, it was only a pilot and they haven't introduced anything except the main characters yet, so I'm willing to keep going with it for awhile.

It was way too similar to The Office. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's on the wrong night. Watching The Office, P&R, and then another Office is too much of the same thing in a row. Move it to another night where it stands out on its own.
Eh, wasn't impressed. But I didn't like the first episode of 30 Rock or The Office either. I'll give it a few more eps.
Didn't think the documentary style fit really. |
I think that's pretty much what was troubling me about Poehler's character. With the mockumentary, you really highlight your subjects, and Poehler's character is as yet a little more caricature than not, which is not a good thing. That's something that could work fine in an SNL bit as a one off with the mockumentary, but I think a regular show format would suit this show much better. We will see how it unfolds though. Maybe they have plans for it.
Oh, they have plans.
Again I'll say it—Aziz is the best thing any show could have going for it right now.
"I'm in a band.. It's called Just the Tip.."
lmfao |
After tonight, I am done with this show.
