Did WWE try to capture lightning in a bottle again with Black Lesnar?
Do you believe that WWE tried to recreate Brock Lesnar in Bobby Lashley?
Let's look at the facts: Similar, mismatched voices. Similar body type. Similar music. Similar entrance (even using the same pyro for a bit if I recall correctly). Similar in-ring style. Both even went onto MMA. So, with these points in mind, do you think WWE was going for Brock Lesnar II with Lashley? |
Just a shame that Lashley had 1/10th the talent of Lesnar.

Brock always made it look like he was beating his opponent very badly. He always looked like a convincing main event player and seemed to fit into the Smackdown roster as their Heavyweight Champion. Lesnar truly defined the concept of the STRENGTH game which is being loosely thrown here and there by guys like Jim Ross. |
They did try to recreate him, he had ability, but he was no Brock. What made Brock so much better was Heyman. I think if Brock came in w/o Heyman he would not be as popular as he was.

Heyman was only one of dozens of things that made Brock better.

What <s>Sti</s>Jeritron said.
Heyman helped Lesnar but wasn't 100% needed. Lesnar could never have talked and just beaten the shit out of everyone and would have been over. |
Like Rover.

Lesnar has an ability to look like a menacing beast; Lashley looks like a constipated Cabbage Patch Kid. Lesnar came in at a time when WWE was looking to develop a new identity, Lashley came in at a time when the roster was pretty oversaturated. Now that's not 100% either of their doings, but Brock had a lot more going for him. |
AND I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ng/donwest.gif |

More like trying to force lightning through a needle's head. Even more difficult, even less of a chance, even worse failure.
|
Brock also had people around who were capable of elevating a new star. His dominating wins over The Rock and Hulk Hogan were probably what put him over the top. Lesnar wiping Hogan's blood on himself is one of the most badass moments ever.
|
They both sucked, but thats about it.
|
Lesnar belly to belly suplexing big show pretty much gained him super star status in my book, especially considering it was fat ass big slow.

Black Lesnar
|
It was so blatant, that it made me cringe when they finally had him do the exact same ring apron jump with the exact same pyro as Lesnar.
|
Eventually it turned into that, but Lashley did connect with the fans in his initial run on SmackDown!. They pushed that dude way too fast, though.

That is one of the rare photos in which I seriously cannot tell if it's Photoshopped or not.
|
Not shopped. It's from a Lashley vs. Simon Dean match where the loser had to eat a plate of cheeseburgers.
|
|
LOL
|
He looks WAY too excited about those burgers...
|
I think the WWE made a mistake by not turning Bobby Lashley heel in the Extreme Elimination Chamber at December to Dismember.
|
Paul Heyman could have paid him off with cheeseburgers.

Touche, to both Xero and Tedious.

December to dismember could have been good if they had actual story lines going into it
