From a logic standpoint, what's the difference between the IC title and a world title? "Intercontinental Championship" suggests the entire world, as does the "World Heavyweight Championship". I fail to see the difference here.

So, is the IC title really just a world title with a fancy name?

well the Title came to be when the North American and South American belts were unified. Thus the name "Inter-Continent," but it was only between 2 continents. So yea, take it for what you will

Because intercontinental doesn't explicitly suggest landlocking. In fact, "across the continent" isn't what that means at all. It just means two or more continents, possibly all of them.

And if it's every continent... why, we're just an ocean short of the world.

It was merged with the IC belt years ago.

Another fun fact, there was no south american title or match at all. They just made it up to change the name. Said Pat Patterson went to Rio had a match won belt, blah blah blah. None of it happend.

So I guess the IC title represents the continents of North and South America and Europe. While the world titles represent everything.

I posted this in the WCW title forum, and how it would make a cool angle...

It was first North and South America, and than they added the Euro in the 21st century... The IC Champ should win a New Japan/All Japan/Fake Japan and maybe even a fake African championship next time their in south Africa and Australia.... Make a feud

I also wouldn't mind another feud with 2 people having belts and claiming to be champ ala razor and Shawn.

This is pretty much the only thing logically separating it from a "World Title."

Nah, it'd be like an empty arena match too. No commentators, no fans. They just drop two wrestlers (and a camera crew) off in Antarctica. Possibly with some sort of "demonic structure" made of ice.

so was the WCW International Heavyweight Championship supposed to be a mid-card title and was stuck to be the only title in wcw so acted as the world title?

or it a new world title they created because of the Flair thing.....

that would have been a better idea instead of the North-American or United States title for WCW, to match up to the IC title.

Man I would so mark the fuck out if the WWE title would be defended in Antartica. The IC title has been defended in Japan, not on tv that is.

I think it was a World Title they had when they didn't have the WCW Title belt they wanted.
