Guitar Hero: Van Halen
Activision finally confirms Guitar Hero: Van Halen
by David Hinkle { 52 minutes ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...reaking001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...intendo001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png Those Van Halen boys are likely happy today, as it marks the end of their need for silence regarding their long-rumored video game: Guitar Hero: Van Halen. Activision has confirmed to Joystiq that the title is in development and will release sometime during the second half of this year. Activision could not confirm any songs, and only said the game will contain Van Halen's "greatest hits," as well as guest acts such as Queen, Weezer, blink-182, The Offspring, Queens of the Stone Age, and more. We've put in word to Activision to clarify if the game will be all David Lee Roth, or if fans will also get some Sammy Hagar and some Gary Cherone love. Well, okay, maybe not Gary Cherone. Nobody liked that guy. I know we already knew about it, but here's to speculation on the guest acts. |
Meh
|
My thoughts exactly.
|
I want GH: Oasis
|
GH: Judas Priest would own.
|
This depends on the setlist.
|
Don't really listen to Van Halen so this gets the Beetles treatment from me.
|
I don't own any version of Guitar Hero, but this is probably the closest I will come to buying one
|
Activision is really starting to milk the teet a little too much.

COMING SOON:
GUITAR HERO: NEIL DIAMOND |

Yeah. I agree. I might care, if my penis was small enough that shredding mattered. |
Rumor: Activision considering Guitar Hero TV show, tour
by Richard Mitchell { 1 hour ago } Brace yourselves. As the headline makes abundantly clear, Activision may be considering turning Guitar Hero into a television show -- a reality TV show, as rumor has it. Furthermore, the company is looking at creating a concert tour based on the series as well. According to Reuters, Activision CEO Robert Kotick acknowledged the rumor prior to the company's Q1 earnings call, saying, "It might make for a good TV show or a good concert tour." Another rumor floating around -- about which Kotick declined to comment -- is that Activision is also prepping a film adaptation of the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty just might actually make a good movie, as Hollywood already has a general template for decent war movies. The only question: Would the film be based on a Treyarch-developed Call of Duty, or one developed by Infinity Ward? Flame war: Commence. come onnnnnnnn |
The only Call of Duty movie I'd see would have to be based on Modern Warfare.
Also, who would pay to see a concert with people playing fake instruments? :wtf: |
Exactly why the only television I watch is HBO, Adult Swim, and Sports.
Because every other network has lost it's god damn mind. |
Hasn't this rumour been tossed around a few times since Activision bought the GH franchise?

The genre has probably already lost interest for most people, why not just finish beating the dead horse |

Oh and by the way: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...uitar-Hero-III |
Obviously I was talking about the DS versions. Obviously.
ouch |
Its not a matter of the series not being good anymore (though I personally don't think it is) its a matter of there not being a shred of originality to it at this point
This is what happened with DDR. People didn't stop liking DDR because it got bad, people stopped playing it because it was the same damn thing over again The Guitar Hero series (IMO, of course) started declining after 2. One was good but not great - I don't think all of the tracks were original recordings. The 2nd most of them were and they had some lesser known band as unlockables that were solid. 3 is when Activision took over and complied the most boring, uninteresting set list possible. Sure, it had some classics, but the main demographic for GH is probably 9 - 21 or so. Putting on songs from 1977 isn't a waste but when you go into Gamestop and see that lined up and Rock Band next to it with Nirvana, Foo Fighters and whatnot on it, its not hard to see what that age group will choose. And don't try to say that the over 40 crowd comprises any sizable percentage of 360/PS3 owners. I just think either make something new and exceiting over it or let it go, which they wont since Activision is going to run it into the ground |

Activision to let me head up GH projects from now on. :shifty:

Quote:
BTW, I'm 22 and about 85% of the music I listen to was made during or before 1977. and GH has just as many relatively recent hits as Rock Band does. |
For example:
GH III 2 60s 11 70s 9 80s 10 90s 13 00s World Tour 3 60s 13 70s 17 80s 16 90s 35 00s RB1 1 60s 14 70s 7 80s 11 90s 12 00s RB2 2 60s 16 70s 16 80s 20 90s 22 00s |

Honestly, the problem seems to be more the frequency than the originality. Quote:
Almost 100%. GH2 had like, four songs that weren't covers. Half of GH3's main setlist were covers. If you liked 2, with all its covers, don't complain about 1. Quote:

Apparently Third Eye Blind's "Semi Charmed Life" and Weezer's "Dope Nose" are in. |

You're talking on a case by case basis. For me, I got bored with the series at 3, was mad when my girlfriend's sister got me GH: Aerosmith for my birthday and cringed when my g/f got me World Tour on 360 for Christmas. Some still play the newer versions and enjoy it. Me? Meh. Quote:

Otherwise, the makeup of the tracks was NOT that different. Most of the GH1 and 2 bonus songs were from bands Harmonix members were in. Quote:
Though if we're being honest, I'd rather see a lot of older music they haven't covered. But that wasn't the point. There was a ton of old music along with Nirvana and whatever. And no, I think there are much better methods for judging popularity, but if you're going to go that route, you nullify your own argument. Are you done cutting off your nose to spite your face? |

Activision's Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management (whew!) told us, "Oh this is definitely Van Halen, not Van Hagar," which is a plus since David Lee Roth is back with the band and they just finished a successful tour. |

Jump for Guitar Hero: Van Halen's full track list

MTV Multiplayer managed to get the info straight from Activision and, if you're a Van Halen fan, we're fairly certain you won't be disappointed with the selections. Essential tracks like "Jump" and "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" have made the cut, along with a few of Eddie's scorching solos. In keeping with the Guitar Hero spin-off tradition, there will also be some music from bands other than Van Halen in the game, so head past the break for the full list of finger-bleeding tunes. Additionally, Guitar Hero: Van Halen has been dated for release on December 22. Van Halen
Other Artists

Fountains of Wayne - "Stacy's Mom"
Killswitch Engage - "The End Of Heartache" Queen - "I Want It All" Fuck, these tracks come out on this game? |
Fuck, never cared for van halen, but I want that Jimmy Eat World track so bad.
|
This will be like GH Aerosmith. Rental and then purchase in bargain bin.
