Somewhat recurring elements in video games that you hate

Battles that you can't win where it's not obvious

Like it's cool at the beginning of Final Fantasy II or something when the enemy just destroys you and you have no chance to do anything, but battles where you're fighting some boss and the story relies on you dying, but lets you stay alive for a long time. Sometimes there are battles that you can't win cause all of your attacks do nothing but you have to survive for a certain period of time, so when you're faced with similar circumstances in a battle you can't win you are still going to try and survive. This really bothers me because I go using items that I don't wanna use and it ends up just being a waste. I dunno.

Yeah, that is always annoying.

Also, games that try to make fun of other games for being cliché, but are completely mediocre themselves.

Unskippable cut scenes. Mainly right before a place where you might die a lot.

Games that don't give you any recovery time after getting hit.

Games that knock you backwards, ala castlevania. This and recovery time should be like megaman.

God yes. Fucking Too Human. You death is followed by an unskippable cutscene. And you die A LOT.

Hey you should really try out Suikoden Tierkreis, 'cause they don't do that for 90% of the storyline-related battles at all or anything at all.

heh, i was playing maximum carnage on the SNES just yesterday, and got to a point where you're supposed to get killed. basically this fat ass attacks you, who is incredibly strong, and has a very very high health pool. you can eventually kill him. if you do, 2 fat guys come out... i beat the 2... then there's 4... then i beat 3 of the 4, but the last guy is invincible. i was fighting him for so long until i realized his health bar is not going to move -.-

I am not a fan of infinitely regenning health.

Escort missions. The end.

OssMan 07-04-2009 09:13 PM

I guess this happens in Zelda mostly but when they make you run the fucking gauntlet to get to a boss. Like you'll use the big key to unlock the door and then have a whole bunch of shit flying at you through like 5 rooms before reaching the boss with all your life gone

YES

Quick time events where pretty neatwhen they came out, but now it's just way overdone.

Another thing I can't stand:

Time Limits

I don't mind one little section of a game with a time limit, but when the entire game has them, it's stupid and unessecary.

Lack of save points, I hate when you want to save and wrap up, but you are forced to play another 30 mins just to get to a save point

Also, I remember a Yugioh game I had for PS1 and I cheated to get all the best cards from the start to see how easy it was to play, anywho, opening hand I get 3 blue eyes white dragons, they combine to a 4500/3800 (strongest in the game) and I beat this guy who you are first supposed to play. He continues to challenge you until you lose.

Yes, I agree. You win this thread on the internets, man.:D The one fucking flaw in GTA games that I'd like would be being able to save whilst mid-mission, and then just be able to pick up the mission where I was at "x" objective before...they could implement it using the TRIP SKIP function from San Andreas in future games, and then after a quick .5 second load, you are back doing whatever it was you were doing.

El Fangel 07-05-2009 03:36 AM

Oh Oh, a 3-5 min load (exaggerated) to get to a fucking title screen.

1 against 10,000

Fignuts 07-05-2009 03:54 AM

Final Fanatsy is the only game I don't mind not being able to save anytime. It just wouldn't feel right any other way.

OssMan 07-05-2009 01:06 PM

I hated in the original Final Fantasy how you could only save when you rest at an inn. And it cost a whole lot of money so you had to be real careful about it.

I hate cutscenes you cant pause...

Many times have I been watching some long ass cutscene when the phone rings or perhaps someone starts talking to me. I wanna hit start to pause the cutscene but 9 times out of 10 if I hit start it will skip the cutscene. Then I miss out on shit that I really wanted to watch.

DrA 07-05-2009 07:10 PM

If I ever made a video game I would put in these fifteen minute cut scenes that you couldn't skip, so each time you replayed a level you would have to sit through the fifteen minute cut scenes again. It would give you more of an incentive to do well the first time around.
