Secret of Monkey Island Xbox 360 Bound?

Rumour has it that LucasArts are preparing a remake of The Secret of Monkey Island for an Xbox 360 release and yet again, the source of the rumour is another ratings board.

The slip this time comes from the German classification board, the USK, who recently added a special edition of the game for the Xbox 360 to their database ... which has since broken ... fancy that.

The 1990 classic [emphasis on the word classic] would make a welcome addition to the console and although it doesn't clarify, you'd have thought it would be for the Xbox Live Arcade. What makes it special is beyond us at the moment though but it would be nice to see a visual upgrade.

As usual, we'll cast an air of caution over this because classification board rumours are as frequent as rain in Britain, but they must get their info from somewhere.

Wow I hope this is true. If it sells well, they might consider going ahead with MI5 after all.

And it would be "special" probably because if it's released next year it'd be the 20 year anniversary.

I've never played Monkey Island but I hear good things. If it comes out on 360, I may give it a shot.

I wish Lucasarts would remake Maniac Mansion or make a new one, though.

The Monkey Island series is probably my favourite game series of all time.

Is Tim Schaefer involved in this? Because if not, I'm not sure I'm interested.

It's no Discworld. j/k, I'd love to play some next gen Monkey Island.

Have you played Day Of The Tentacle? Or do you mean a new one after that?

I knew about Day of the Tentacle but never played it. I was saying I wanted a remake of the original (I played the NES version) or a new one. I don't like the art style of DotT so I'd hope anything Maniac Mansion based wouldn't have that art style if it ever came along.

DotT is seriously good. It would be a hard decision between it and Sam and Max hit the road.

Yeah, that double pack of the two games is one of the greatest packages of all time as well.

can't wait for the new jack black game the dude is making. Monkey island and psychonauts are some of my fav games ever.

It's confirmed for 360 and PC, with re-done HD GFX style and a full voiceover.

Also, for PC and Wii, there is going to be an episodic Monkey island series :D

But honestly I found out about Tales of Monkey Island that LucasArts are doing in affiliation with Telltale Games and THAT has got me even more excited. I seriously am so happy. I have been waiting for new Guybrush since I finished EMI.

The game looks great! I'm glad they got the same voice actor who did Guybrush's voice in "Curse of Monkey Island" and "Escape from Monkey Island" to come back, and reprise the role. No one could play the part better. He has a wonderful voice. I see that the same woman who did the Voodoo Lady's voice has returned as well! Infact, it sounds like a lot of the cast from the last two games is back. That's great! :y:

I'm really glad this game is back. I once spent ten hours playing "Escape from Monkey Island". :lol:

Secret of Monkey Island on the XBLA Next Wednesday

Lucasarts have just announced, via their Twitter account, that their reimagining of The Secret of Monkey Island, will hit the Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday, July 15th.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is a HD version of the original with remastered audio and full voice work. No word on price yet but I have a distinct feeling that this won't come cheap. As soon as we hear, we'll let you know.

Huzzah! Guybrush Threepwood on the Xbox 360 in just over a week.

Its really saying something when a 20 year old video game is making me more excited than anything else being released soon. Seriously cannot wait for this.

Anyone played Tales Of Monkey Island yet? Got the first episode today and played a bit, the control scheme takes some getting used to but they've nailed the atmosphere and dialogue in it perfectly.

I downloaded Tales the day it came out, but I haven't had much time to play it. What I've gone through though, I've enjoyed so far. The look and feel is definitely Monkey Island; it doesn't even feel like they ever left. Control system takes a bit to get used to but it's pretty intuitive after a while. Inventory system is good, I can't wait to play more.
