Better Movie #1

Adapting this from the Wrestling Forum which really we should've done a while ago. So yeah, two movies, pick which one you like better. Winner advances to the next matchup. If a movie wins five matchups it is inducted into the TPWW Movie Hall of Fame.

Polls are open for three days. Happy voting.

Jeritron 05-22-2009 01:03 AM

Pulp would have a serious leg up on 99% of movies. Unfortunately, Ghostbusters edges it out in that elite group for me.

dronepool 05-22-2009 01:07 AM

Ghostbusters is good but Pulp Fiction is better. But comparing those 2 movies sorta feels like comparing something like Iron Man with the Shining.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-22-2009 01:11 AM

That's the point, dronepool. Pulp Fiction would dominate pretty much any similar movie and Ghostbusters would destroy pretty much any action/comedy movie. But when put up against each other it requires you to really think about what grabbed you in each film and made it special.

thedamndest 05-22-2009 01:13 AM

I think Pulp Fiction is good, but not what it's made out to be. It's clever, but at the same time it's self-indulgent, and that's exactly what I hate about Tarantino. Sometimes I just need him to get to a point.

Lock Jaw 05-22-2009 01:18 AM

Yeah, Pulp Fiction wasn't as good as everyone makes it out to be.

Ghostbusters wins this for me.

Hornicane 05-22-2009 01:29 AM

Pulp Fiction was amazing, but Ghostbusters left a legacy. Easily one of my favourite films of all time, and has been pretty much since I was born.

True.

Fignuts 05-22-2009 01:31 AM

Pulp Fiction is great, but it's something that you kind of have to be in the mood for. Ghostbusters is great and I could watch it every day.

Ghostbusters.

:y: This

Supreme Olajuwon 05-22-2009 09:23 AM

Going with Pulp Fiction on this. Ghostbusters is a fun movie and immensely entertaining, but Pulp Fiction is that once in a generation film that encompasses everything great about movies. And that's true regardless of what you think about Tarantino.

Ogen 05-22-2009 09:26 AM

Surprised as how easily Ghostbusters is winning this

Supreme Olajuwon 05-22-2009 12:56 PM

It's still early but yeah I'm a little surprised. I think it probably has to do with the fact that Ghostbusters appeals to everyone.

Jeritron brought up last night that people will associate Ghostbusters with their childhood which also adds a lot of extra nostalgia points.

Jeritron 05-22-2009 01:09 PM

I think Ghostbusters stands out for it's incredible originality. The absurdity of it really leads to some great humor, and the cast is perfect to get the most out of situations comedically.

That isn't to say Pulp Fiction isn't as well.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-22-2009 06:49 PM

Interesting to note that both these films achieved great success without the use of a hot actress.

St. Jimmy 05-22-2009 09:13 PM

Pulp Fiction.

PapaGeorgio 05-22-2009 09:18 PM

Hot first match up, Ghostbusters all the way though.

mitch_h 05-22-2009 09:27 PM

I've always found that Pulp Fictions only flaw is the copy cat movies that followed it's success, like I hate Boondock Saints, Guy Ritchie, Suicide Kings etc. Ghostbusters ony the other hand is kinda inimitable. BUT! i'm not going to let that interfere with my voting, so i'm going to go with Pulp Fiction.

Zen v.W.o. 05-22-2009 10:04 PM

Pulp Fiction is overrated not to mention I hate Travolta and think he sucks.

Nowhere Man 05-22-2009 10:58 PM

Really tough choice, but I'm gonna have to give my vote to Pulp Fiction, if only because it was the movie that turned me into a movie-geek. Ghostbusters is still damn awesome, though.

mitchables 05-23-2009 04:38 AM

Don't cross the streams, my vote goes to Ghostbusters.

Destor 05-23-2009 06:39 AM

Pulp Fiction without even thinking about it.

How the fuck did Pulp Fiction not leave a legacy?

This

I cannot believe it is neck and neck

Supreme Olajuwon 05-23-2009 11:15 AM

All tied up. A pretty good start to the Better Movie competition.

Need more voters though. Gotta get the word out to the masses.

Anybody Thrilla 05-23-2009 11:21 AM

I like this thread idea very much. I voted for Pulp Fiction. So quotable.

mitchables 05-23-2009 11:50 AM

Ghostbusters is quotable too you know :(

Corporate CockSnogger 05-23-2009 11:54 AM

Even Cena quoted it this week.

Anybody Thrilla 05-23-2009 12:06 PM

Pulp Fiction is more quotable than Ghostbusters. No contest.

mitchables 05-23-2009 12:14 PM

THERE IS NO CONTEST, ONLY ZUUL

Heh. Gold.

Anybody Thrilla 05-23-2009 12:16 PM

Look at the big brain on Brad!

mitch_h 05-23-2009 12:26 PM

I've worked in the private sector, they expect results.

Rammsteinmad 05-23-2009 12:39 PM

Ghostbusters.

I liked Pulp Fiction, but I liked GB more.

Don't get me wrong, there aren't many films I would vote for over Pulp Fiction. It was definitely more influential in terms of the film industry. It just seems to me that Ghostbusters is more ingrained in the consciousness of pop culture. But, as has been mentioned, this could just seem to be for me due to growing up with Ghostbusters in the 80's and the nostalgia factor, who knows.

Nark Order 05-23-2009 01:09 PM

One of the great tings about Ghostbusters is that I'll be able to show it to my kids when the time comes and it will be just as great to them as it was to me. It's just a timeless movie. Even with the special effects being a little dated, it is a great experience every single time I watch it. Also,I may be showing bias as Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors ever but I believe the bias should be excused as Ghostbusters is probably what got me into loving Bill Murray.

CSL 05-23-2009 02:59 PM

Pulp Fiction by some distance

Supreme Olajuwon 05-23-2009 03:27 PM

These results are very interesting. I thought Pulp Fiction would run through the competition but it just shows what different people think makes a movie great. And personally I think that's pretty cool.

Heros Welcome 05-23-2009 03:35 PM

Ghostbusters is great, but Pulp takes it for me.

Ghostbusters.

Good News Gertie 05-23-2009 07:03 PM

Pulp Fiction is an a-movie. Ghostbusters, although I love it to bits, would fall into a b-movie category. they're both retro and still hot so obv they can both easily be deemed "classics". they are different genres, doesn't really seem fair to put an apple next to an orange... i mean i guess you can compare the vitamin content or the taste, but come on.
