Godzilla Final Wars

Bought this at the grocery store for 10 bucks, and I fucking love it. 15 monsters in this sumbitch. Even the american godzilla. Unfortunatly a lot of time is spent on the human characters. Way too much time. But on the bright side, they are superhuman kung fu fighters. And also, UFC hall of famer Don Frye is a main character. So that's awesome too. Even so, would have liked more time for the monster fights.

BUT what there is, is fucking awesome. And Gigan is a hardcore motherfucker.

This makes me want a current gen godzilla game, with all the monsters from the entire toho library.

Hornicane 05-22-2009 02:49 AM

What monsters does it feature? Biolante and Megalon were always personal favourites of mine.

Fignuts 05-22-2009 02:56 AM

No biolante or megalon.

You liked the plant? Come on dude. Has Anguirus, mothra, Rodan, Gigan, American Godzilla, a new monster at the end, and a bunch of others that I don't know offhand.

Mechagodzilla isn't in it cause he was destroyed in a previous film in this era of zila movies. Know the name megalon, but I forgot which one he is. Wasn't in it, I know that. Biolante wasn't in, on account of him sucking.

Fignuts 05-22-2009 02:57 AM

Oh yeah, and that muppet looking baby godzilla is in it too, thankfully in a very minor role.

Hornicane 05-22-2009 03:04 AM

Megalon was the giant beetle with drill arms that spit napalm bombs.

In all actuality, I've not seen many of the films, but I read all the Cerasini novels. Biolante was the main antagonist in one of them, and didn't seem too bad. :-\

Fignuts 05-22-2009 03:08 AM

Regardless, go see this movie.

Hornicane 05-22-2009 03:12 AM

I'll try to find it. Gigan was pretty badass, if I recall.

...He's the one with the hook looking arms, right?

Fignuts 05-22-2009 03:18 AM

He is a cyborg monster that has mantis like hook arms, a laser eye like cyclops, grappling hooks, predator-like razor discs, he can fly, and to top it off, a circular saw in his torso.

Wasn't lying when I said he's a hardcore mother fucker.

Jeritron 05-22-2009 03:37 AM

I've always loved the look and concept of Godzilla. I went through a brief Godzilla phase as a kid and loved the toys.
During that time period, I rented most of the movies.

I haven't seen one recently, but I remember them being awesomely bad.

Jeritron 05-22-2009 03:38 AM

I was, and still am, a huge King Kong mark. Godzilla vs King Kong was hilarious.

Yeah, in the first series of movies, each new movie brought an even more ridiculous physical attack from godzilla. Remember that ridiculous dance?

It's been rebooted twice, the latest ofwhich was Godzilla 2000, with Final Wars being the final film of this series. It's great, because the monsters look awesome now, and the fights are better, but it doesn't lose that cheesy charm the previous movies had. Gonna try and get every movie on dvd.

Would also like Gamara, as a sabretooth turtle with rocket jets, that can do gymnastics is awesome.

Sounds to me like Fignuts is hanging out with too many South American hippies.

Holy crap, someone else read the Cerasini books?!

Anyway, Final Wars is a hoot and a half: reminds me a whole lot of the old classic Destroy All Monsters, and features just about all of the old-school monsters (except Megalon). I counted Mothra, Rodan, Anguirus, King Caesar, Kumonga (the big spider), Kamaciras (the big mantis), Manda, Hedorah the Smog Monster, and of course King Ghidorah. It doesn't really get going until the second half (it feels like they were doing a completely different movie and then remembered to put Godzilla in later), but it's bloody awesome once it gets going.

If you really want a badass take on the Big Guy, though, I'd recommend 2001's Godzilla/Mothra/King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (they really should've come up with a better English title). It's got uncharacteristically not-bad special effects (well, Scifi Channel level), and a super-evil Godzilla that just does not give a fuck.

Look at what he does to this poor bastard, and you'll see what I mean:

Shaggy 05-22-2009 03:38 PM

Is it Final Wars where Godzilla fights the Godzilla from the US film and just beats the shit out of him in like 10 seconds?

Nowhere Man 05-22-2009 03:55 PM

That's the one. Pure greatness.

Fignuts 05-22-2009 06:30 PM

Less than 10 seconds actually.

Hornicane 05-22-2009 08:32 PM

I legitimately looked for this movie in the bin of dvds by the checkout when I was at the grocery today.

It wasn't there. :-\

Fignuts 05-23-2009 12:26 AM

Best Buy will definitely have it.

Don't knock the godzilla breath.

Also, gigan jobs to something much more badass in this one.

Shadow 05-23-2009 03:11 PM

Yeah...a flaming Moth. Mothra gets set on fire then crashes into Gigan, tearing his head off.

The he in my statement was towards Gigan, not Godzilla.

Fignuts 05-24-2009 05:56 AM

Read that as mouth for some reason.

Probably because I'm an idiot.

Impact! 06-11-2009 05:03 AM

Slight bump, BUT after reading this thread I went out and bought the DVD. Beautiful  purely awesome in every aspect...actually makes me sad that it's the last Godzilla movie (in the forseeable future)

Shadow 06-11-2009 05:43 AM

SHOWS WHAT YOU KNOW!

by 2015 there should be a new Godzilla movie...I should go to best buy and get this thing.

Impact! 06-11-2009 06:14 AM

Ok fine, last currently planned Godzilla movie (as far a I know)

IS THAT BETTER SHADOW :foc: :p

Fignuts 06-11-2009 12:14 PM

Yeah, was never planned as the last godzilla movie EVER. Just the last in this series.

There are 3 series so far. Likely that there will be another.

Impact! 06-11-2009 12:33 PM

Woo

Big G fan over here, check this out. This is Godzillas last apperance on the big screen. This movie is called Always Sunset on Third Street 2 and this a a dream sequence to open the movie. Godzilla is in full CGI, and looks pretty damn good. This takes us back to his roots. Enjoy :D Sorry but the one i had with subtitles is gone. If you guys ever have a question about Godzilla, im your man. Or you can be a douchebag and go to wikipedia :shifty:

G 06-17-2009 12:03 AM

I think I've seen this. A year ago, Comcast On Demand had a shit ton of Godzilla movies on, and I watched them all. Good times :(
