Better Movie #2

"Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we shall fear no evil, for we have particle accelerators."
-Egon 23

In what critics around the world and ct2k are deeming a massive upset, Ghostbusters defeated Pulp Fiction in the inaugural Better Movie battle. Now, the fearsome foursome face another daunting task, way tougher than any marshmallow man: Bitch tit Bob.

Polls are open for three days. Happy voting.

These are two cult classics.

Ghostbusters is by all means the better movie though. If I put it over Pulp Fiction, it has to go over this.
Fight Club has grown to cult status due to many of it's cool elements, and the actors in it. However, it wasn't very well recieved when it came out.

I like it. Good movie, but it doesn't stick out to me as great.
Ghostbusters is a top comedy of all-time.

Rammsteinmad 05-25-2009 03:55 PM

Ghostbusters.

I've only seen Fight Club when it first came out, and I was only 11/12 then, so don't really understand or remember any of it.

thedamndest 05-25-2009 04:01 PM

I have a Fight Club movie poster, so that wins.

Nark Order 05-25-2009 04:03 PM

SPOILER: show
Although Fight Club was kind of the first that set the trend for the "LOL. He nevar realay existd!" fad, I hate the whole idea of such things. Movies with similar endings seem like such a cop out to me, especially if you're trying to build up the mystery aspect.

Going with my Ghostbusters.

Hornicane 05-25-2009 04:05 PM

Sad to say I've yet to see Fight Club, so I've gotta go with Ghostbusters by default.

thedamndest 05-25-2009 04:06 PM

You guys are going to piss off ct2k.

Jeritron 05-25-2009 04:06 PM

what about Sixth Sense? I believe that was a couple years before too

Nark Order 05-25-2009 04:07 PM

I'm sorry, I hated 'The Uninvited' also because of a similar ending.

I dunno, it's not the same as Pulp Fiction. Fight Club is also a cult classic appreciated mostly by a generation.

It's not as though Fight Club has gotten better critical praise than Ghostbusters has.

Jeritron 05-25-2009 04:13 PM

As far as David Fincher goes, I prefer Se7en and Zodiac

thedamndest 05-25-2009 04:13 PM

Apparently Sixth Sense came out a few months before Fight Club.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-25-2009 04:14 PM

And yet ghostbusters isn't even imdb's top 250. Go figure.

I'm going with Fight Club even though I was bummed out that they cut out the original ending from the book. Still a great great movie

What was the original book ending?

Jeritron 05-25-2009 04:18 PM

IMDB's top 250 is a farce.

Pretty sure Pirates of the Caribbean is in it and E.T. isn't

For some reason, certain movies get held out of it by a group of naysayers. Halloween isn't in there either.
A few others have stuck out to me as "why the fuck isn't that on the 250" before

But yea, in general that list is a good guidline for what's popular among male movie geeks in their 20s, with a few exceptions.

It's also ridiculous how everytime a movie comes out it is in the top250.

That's my main gripe with the whole system they have set up.

And the episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? that it was based on came out a few years earlier.

There was an episode that was very similar to the Sixth Sense, that M. Night Shaymalan admitted to deriving his movie from.

Eh, the system is fine since it's just an open poll. It's just important to realize that the list has no credibility or reach AT ALL.

Basically great movies that aren't "cool" don't get the recognition they deserve from people on there.
There is no way E.T. doesn't deserve to be on that list. It just isn't on there because the demographic that dominates the community on there thinks emotions are uncool

Can't believe Ghostbusters and Halloween aren't though. There are a lot of others I can't think of right now too. Legitimately great films.

Jeritron 05-25-2009 04:25 PM

Bringing Up Baby isn't on there

What Would Kevin Do? 05-25-2009 04:34 PM

Gotta go with Fight Club, I just love that movie too much.

Also, the book ends with Tyler Durden (Jack) in a mental hospital, where the guards are part of project mayhem, and they nod at him knowingly all the time, and assure him everything is going according to plan (if I recall correctly.) I like the ending of the book better too.

Triple A 05-25-2009 04:36 PM

This should be no contest.

ct2k 05-25-2009 04:38 PM

FC

This one is/was closer, but no, sorry GB:(

Triple Naitch 05-25-2009 05:20 PM

Going with Fight Club because I am bitter.

CSL 05-25-2009 05:24 PM

Fight Club, by some distance, albeit a smaller distance that PF

Impeccable 05-25-2009 05:58 PM

Love both films, but Ghostbusters edges it because of how awesome Bill Murray is.

NeanderCarl 05-25-2009 06:44 PM

The previous battle was a toughie, but this is Ghostbusters hands down without question for me.

DrA 05-25-2009 07:01 PM

I don't know. Fight Club is over-rated but apparently so is Ghostbusters now. I might have to go watch Ghostbusters again since I haven't seen it in about fifteen years.

DrA 05-25-2009 07:12 PM

I'm going to go with Fight Club because it has an awesome soundtrack and Brad Pitt is really hot in it, although it fizzled out at the end. I haven't seen Ghostbusters in such a long time that I really don't remember anything about it other than liking it when I was eight.

Nowhere Man 05-25-2009 07:37 PM

Fight Club I could only get through twice, because to me, once the big twist ending was revealed, the only reason to watch it again was to see how much they teased at the twist in the beginning. I enjoyed the hell out of it, but on sheer replayability (not sure if that's a word), I'm going with Ghostbusters.

St. Jimmy 05-25-2009 07:44 PM

We don't talk about the better movie.

Gonzo 05-25-2009 11:37 PM

I like Ghostbusters but I don't think it should have beaten Pulp Fiction, and I give Fight Club the edge here.

Skippord 05-26-2009 12:30 AM

Fight Club

because as my girlfriend put it I'm gay for Edward Norton

Destor 05-26-2009 12:39 AM

again not Ghostbusters without even thinking about it

PorkSoda 05-26-2009 01:29 AM

Fight club.

I'd go for Ghostbusters cause Bill Murray is the man, but I'm not, I voted for Fight Club.

The Gold Standard 05-26-2009 03:02 AM

Fight Club, I enjoyed that movie a lot more. It is amazing

Jeritron 05-26-2009 03:04 AM

Does this mean Fight Club is more popular than Pulp Fiction on here?

road doggy dogg 05-26-2009 03:14 AM

I missed the first round, and I'm surprised Ghostbusters beat out Pulp Fiction.

I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan, but c'mon. Fight Club easy.
crossrine

Boondock Saint 05-26-2009 03:17 AM

Ghostbusters.

Ogen 05-26-2009 04:58 AM

What how is Fight Club winning by so much, Pulp Fiction is better than Fight Club :(
